Have found the need to visit this clinic twice. Both times for my beloved lab/dane/ridgeback mix fur-baby, Hogan. Both times were pretty stressful. Hogan was diagnosed with cancer and lost a LOT of weight. The first visit in 7/2013 we met with Lori Bradshaw. She was magnificent! Gave us lots of time to ask questions, many options for what we could do, what to expect...keeping my strapped budget limits in mind. Basically....with his health conditions, it was recommended to make him comfortable for the time he had left. The second visit was sadder than the first. It was time for Hogan to return to Gods care. Very early on a Sunday morning in March 2014, it was obvious my buddy was in distress. I called the clinic and the receptionist asked for an ETA. She told me Hogan would be the priority when we arrived. Within 20 minutes of the call, we arrived. They met us carside, with staff members and a guirney to make his transition less stressful. The gentleness of their handling was heartwarming to see. During a quick check of Hogan confirming that this was, indeed, the end of his 3 year battle with cancer...the receptionist handled all the payment process which helped me to be able to leave afterward without hesitaton or delay. The Vet, Kristin Gerard explained everything that would take place and gave me the option to be with him as I said my "good byes". She was compassionate, tender, gentle, understanding, professional, knowledgeable and basically....a calming "Angel" during a very heartbreaking time. She gave me time alone with him and then explained all that was happening when he transitioned. She then stayed with me (even during a "shift change") and let my cry and talk about my big-boy beyond her quit time. Im eternally grateful for her empathy. This place not only has a staff with the HUGEST of hearts I have ever experienced (and Ive been a multiple dog owner for well over 20 years) but they are also the top of the line, experience wise. A few days after parting with my Hogan, I received a bereavement card, with a handwritten note from Kristin....and signed by the entire staff. They also made a clay baked paw print (for free) of my big-boy that will be proudly displayed in a shadow box on my family wall. Its always a sad and scary time when you need an ER Vet past regular work hours....but TVE is, BY FAR, a God send, should you need them. They dont just do their job....they re-instill a deep sense of compassion and love for all who enter their doors (something that many of the "chains" could learn a great deal from). Their prices are quite reasonable...always a factor when in emergency mode....but their hearts and genuine concern for the families and pets they treat is OFF THE CHART! Their contact info is in various places of my home and should my other 2 dogs need any emergency care....this is the place I will take them. My heart is broken with losing Hogan....but Im also comforted that those that helped him transition...tried to make it as stress free as possible. 5 stars??? Nah....Id give them 100! The best in the PDX area, in my opinion.

I hope you never need to take your pet to the ER Vet, but if you do, this is the place to come. Our dog received fantastic care during her stay here! When we brought in our sick 13-year old lab, Dr. Thomas was right there (literally, at our car) to help us bring in our dog (who couldnt walk). I was impressed with how quickly he was able to diagnose what was wrong and provide options, and it was clear from the get-go that Dr. Thomas not only truly cared about our dog, but had the expertise to give her the best shot at recovery. On the more practical side, they were able to give us a min/max estimate on cost of care, before we had to decide which direction to proceed with her care. I dont know how they were able to do this so quickly, but it was nice to be provided that up front. And as a side note, they offer a financing option (I believe $1000, same as cash for 6 months) to help cover these surprise ER vet runs (there is also another option for over $1000). We were really comforted that they brought us "to the back" (you know that mystery place they take your pets at the vet, while you sit anxiously in the exam room?) to show us on the ultrasound what they thought was wrong with our dog, and even throughout her stay, theyd allow us to go back to visit her. I cant tell you why it was so comforting, but it was. : ) We also had great communication from Dr. Thomas and team -- even a call during the night after her surgery was over, and he made it clear that he was available 24/7 and to not hesitate to reach out. What blew us away was the spa-treatment our dog had! When we went to visit her, wed noticed her nails had been clipped, shed been washed, and she had little doggie massage to help reduce swelling in her legs. Dr. Thomas even was cooking chicken breast to see if shed eat! Amazing! They even cleaned her ears and gave us some treatment for one ear that was infected (totally unrelated to why she was at the ER vet). This kind of TLC blew us away! Our dog needed to stay a couple nights there, but we were able to drop in anytime, visit her (she was there over a weekend, while they were open), and take her on a little walk. We really appreciated how welcoming they were to these visits! : ) Our story even has a happy ending -- our dog made a quick and full recovery. She is even peppier now than she was before. We are very fortunate, and are so thankful for all the care and TLC she received during her stay from Dr. Thomas and team! :D

Inexperienced Doctors - Horrible Vet We took our French Bulldog who developed IVDD, which is a very common spinal disease in this breed. Any vet that sees a dog, having a VERY bad limp, and a dog breed known for this disease should have known. Instead they grabbed my dog from the waiting room, picked her up, cradling putting pressure on the back which made her diarrhea right there in the waiting room, didnt allow me come back with them, and then when the vet came into the private room, my poor dog was very bothered and flustered. The vet said, "yeah, she was tough putting her on her side to exam." Yeah no kidding! She was in a huge amount of pain genius. Then to only send her home with pain medication... As an experienced vet, wouldnt you know that this common and a VERY serious disease thats needs to be operated on asap. Nope, instead they just gave me some pain pills. And one of the vets mentioned he had a French Bulldog. If they would have told me to take her right away to a vet who can operate, maybe my dog wouldve had a fighting chance. Instead, we waited two more days as the limp worsened and finally, within 72 hours, she became 100% paralyzed. At that point, we took her to a neurological specialist vet in Clackamas. She was only 3.5 years old and we had to put her down because she was too far along. Yes we could have done the operation but because she was so far along with internal bleeding, the surgery is very risky, $8000 for the operation, and recovery is VERY strenuous on the dog and owner. We didnt want to put her through that. The money wasnt the issue if recover wasnt so tough. I just dont understand why these vets wouldnt know my dog needed immediate surgery. Not sending us home with pain pills which further lead to putting down our dog at such an early age. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. VERY UN-KNOWLEDGEABLE & UN-EXPERIENCED.
