I work for Providence and do NOT want to go to a PMG clinic so I switched to Broadway Medical. The ONLY two reasons I like this place is 1) its not Providence where I work 2) Dr. John Bauer is great and I am finally happy with a PCP. However, I had Dr. Janis Howatt for almost two years at Broadway and she is ...weird... I cant pinpoint what it is about her but she seems cold and not the warm, friendly type. The one and only time I felt she was genuinely nice was when I had my annual womens exam, other than that, she makes me feel uncomfortable. She called in sick one day, so I saw Dr. Bauer in her place. Before leaving the clinic that day, I filled out the paperwork to switch to Bauer as my PCP. What I dont like about this clinic: 1) the building is old and cute on the outside, not on the inside. The walls are thin and I could hear patients in the next room. That makes me uncomfortable about what others can hear me say. 2) They use space heaters to heat the rooms and they are the type of heaters that are not allowed at Providence, per policy by the Fire Marshall. That leads me to believe that they dont keep up to code. 3) During my annual womens appointment, the gown they gave me was a half shirt/robe thingy and and a blanket. At every other clinic Ive been to for a gynecological exam had regular hospital gowns. These half gowns are straight ridiculous. I was literally NAKED and the gown only covered my upper body. The blanket was the only covering of my genitals. That is a sure way to make your patient uncomfortable right before having a plastic instrument inserted in ones vagina. That day, I requested a referral to do my annuals at a gynecologists office where they strive to make their patients feel comfortable when they are practically naked. 4) They dont spend much money on technology and when health care laws changed, you can tell they suffered with trying to catch up to national standards. 5) Because it is in the Hollywood District, there are a bunch of crackheads and gutterpunks around, so they have a security guard on site. I came in for an appointment one day, very ill, and I was sitting in the waiting room. I had my eyes closed because my head was pounding and spinning (I have a chronic illness). The security guard came over to me, woke me up to interrogate me. He asked me if I belonged there and if I had checked in. I understand he was doing his job but he was very unprofessional. Instead of asking the receptionist first, who was about 8 feet away from me, he immediately accused me of trespassing. It was because I was wearing black leggings and shirt that said the name of a metal band on it and my purse had the Misfits skull on it (another band). I was so mad at him I wanted to scream. I work for Providence and probably make a lot more money than him and have a more professional career than he does, but he was judging me based on the clothes I was wearing. I dont have too much trouble with getting an appointment or speaking to a nurse as other reviews have stated, but I can believe that it has happened to others.

Medical Staff is friendly and helpful, but I consider that an expectation for any sort of pediatrics to be friendly around my child. My son has been a patient here for his first 7 months of life. As a standard for receiving medical services, we received everything we needed and the medical staff was very knowledgeable. However, I am frustrated and agitated with their billing department. My partner and I have consistently been transparent with our ongoing insurance issue since MY CHILD WAS BORN, 7 MONTHS AGO. The insurance company, for whatever reason, keeps saying that they are reprocessing the claim of XYZ$ that was billed the first time we came to the clinic 7 MONTHS AGO. Our insurance has taken full accountability for the multiple delays to Broadway, and to inform Broadway by providing documentation. For some reason, Broadway Medical keeps holding my partner and I responsible and accountable for the bill AFTER MANY MONTHS OF EXPLAINING THAT THE INSURANCE HAS FAILED TO REPROCESS THE BALANCE AND HAS SENT BROADWAY NOTIFICATIONS EVERY MONTH. We have proof of insurance, why hasnt Broadways billing department taken the initiative to investigate why the insurance HAS NOT COMPENSATED THEM? Instead, they held us accountable, to the point where THEY DENIED MY CHILDS SHOTS because our our "unsatisfied balance." YES, MY CHILD WAS DENIED RECEIVING HEALTHCARE SERVICES BECAUSE BROADWAY MEDICAL FAILED TO COMMUNICATE WITH OUR INSURANCE. They also failed to communicate that they are going to make an executive decision of denying my child services, EVEN THOUGH WE CAME IN 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE DAY THAT WE WERE DENIED. We have called our insurance every month because Broadway medical keeps telling us that we have this Balance due when our child was born. The insurance company keeps saying they have notified Broadway and they are reprocessing the balance THAT WE HAVE BEEN HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR, and we keep providing Broadway the necessary documents to prove that the balance is being reprocessed. I understand that the insurance is making this mistake and has not fixed the problem and someone has to get paid for their services; but to hold us financially accountable for the insurances ongoing mistake AND assuming that we are deliberately choosing to NOT pay for the balance is the reason why I stopped bringing my child here. TLDR If Broadway Medicals billing services investigated our 7 MONTH ongoing issue and why our problems have not been resolved by OUR INSURANCE, our child would still be a patient here. Despite the transparency and proof that my partner and I have been providing with the insurances lack of paying them; Broadway Medical still held us accountable and responsible for the claim 7 months ago. Rather than communicating with insurance, they gave us the choice to pay or we get denied services. I was forced to find another provider because they werent willing to communicate with insurance and held us financially accountable for theirs and the insurances mistake

I am not a frequent Yelper or online reviewer of services, but could not let this terrible encounter at Broadway Medical Clinic go unnoticed. My grown son had been in pain for over a week, the pain primarily localized in his throat. Upon inspection I could see an open wound with pus on his tonsils. He came and saw Dr. Bley who said it was viral, not strep, due to a rapid screener. They also cultured his throat, but they only call you with results if they are positive. No strep, but my son’s symptoms worsened to the extent that no over the counter medication was touching the pain. Even the kind nurse who took his vitals commiserated that there is nothing that rivals a severe sore throat. Fast forward two days to a return visit which I accompanied. Initially Dr. Bley was informative and cordial enough, but when the subject of pain management came up we were treated like drug addicts seeking a fix. Now why would a mom want pain meds for her son? Because he can’t sleep, eat or drink water with the pain he has. Because he has been reduced to tears from the excruciating pain. Because he has resorted to sending texts to me and writing notes on a sticky pad to avoid talking. All of this we shared with the doctor. Dr. Bley referred to the ULCERS in his throat which needed healing. To me it seemed like a reasonable request to take the edge off of the pain from throat ulcers for a couple of days until the healing kicked in, nothing more. Maybe it would even only take a day. When we requested medication beyond Advil Dr. Bley initially expressed his concern about drug dependency (legitimate concern), but his tone rapidly escalated from there. He turned caustic, sarcastic even, interrupting our questions and finally storming out of the office without a goodbye or follow-up. My son and I felt demeaned, embarrassed and humiliated by this doctor. I have NEVER observed such poor bedside manner from a doctor in my entire life. I actually felt judged for wanting my son to have help with his pain beyond Advil. We do not take drugs or drink alcohol in our family. We are ALL tea totalers! We take prescription medication carefully, and only take it when absolutely necessary. My family and I deserved to be treated like capable adults, not demeaned, belittled or insulted for a legitimate request for temporary pain management. We left the appointment literally shaken, unaware of what we were even supposed to do since the doctor had stormed out of our appointment. Were we supposed to call them back? Were they going to call us? What about the labs? Pharmacy? We drove home in silence, speechless from the appalling experience we had shared, still with unanswered questions and a whole lot of pain. I’ve only been out of the shock long enough to write this directive to you: See someone else.
