I was recently in the ER for post appendectomy pain at an eight. I was told there would be a long wait. Crying with pain, I insisted on being seen. When I was finally brought in, the area was dead quiet. I counted six empty rooms. I had just had an emergency appendectomy in NYC and flown home. In NYC I was treated with such respect and care that I was taken aback. The hospital there was severely overcrowded, but my care was excellent. When they first suggested an appendectomy and I balked, I was told if I left the hospital it would be against medical advice. Thats when I realized they were taking my pain more seriously than I was. Back in PT. My pain and distended abdomen were increasing. I was running out of both pain killers and Valium (which was prescribed because it helps to relax the abdominal muscles). I was given tramadol. When I said it wouldnt help me, I was told I didnt know what I was talking about. Again, my pain was an eight and they think extra strength Advil is going to help when the Percocet hasnt? When Dr. Parker saw me, she sat behind me, forcing me to twist to talk to her. It was excruciating. She said shed prescribe me some more Percocet but refused the Valium. As I was asking why, she stormed out of the room. I burst into tears. What had I done to be treated so horribly? Why was she angry with me? Why was my pain being belittled? I wanted to leave. I wished I had never come. When the nurse was taking out my iv, she told me if I didnt like the care I was getting, to go to another ER. Im crying hysterically at this point, which hurt like hell. Go to another ER? My pain is at an EIGHT, you moronic small town people! I could hardly drive to this ER and youre insulting me and my pain by suggesting I drive an hour to the next closest ER? I left. No one tried to stop me, calm me down. Nothing. When my crying got loud, I was told to be quiet. Now Im at home. I took two Percocet and my pain is at a five. I have two Percocet left. I hate the ER and that evil, ignorant doctor. God forbid something is really wrong with me. Dr. Parker will be responsible.

Long story short: was told to come here for a doctors note: went against my better judgement. Wasnt told I couldnt come in for a note and was checked in just fine, the nurse said nothing at first, still assumed it was fine even though it wasnt an emergency. Dr. Parker came in and asked why I was there, I explained that I needed a note to get back to work because I was feeling a lot better. she then got angry and said "so you dont even have anything wrong now?" I tried to explain that I was still feeling a little bad but not bad enough to miss more work and thats why I needed the note. But instead of letting me finish explaining, she refused to check me out and check my symptoms. She stormed out of the room angrily yelling about how she wont excuse my absence from work, that my visit was a waste of her time, etc. Then the nurse came in, and she suddenly was also very rude. After I signed some papers she started interrogating me about why I didnt just go to my primary care provider even though shes never available (especially not at a drop of a dime) and then told me not to come in again for this reason because it was "highly inappropriate" to come in for a note- yadda yadda. They didnt bother letting me explain further and didnt bother looking into any symptoms - just assumed I was faking sickness to skip work and wrote that I came in for an excuse to get out of work on my visit summary papers (pic for proof). I wont be coming back to this terrible facility for care any time soon. edit: it wont let me upload the picture for some reason - but I have brought this issue up with the patient advocate. This isnt the first or last bad experience with Dr. Parker. It needs to be solved.

I cannot believe how this hospital can spend so much money expanding while being by far the worst experience of my entire life. Some of the doctors are okay but when I had surgery and after i got home and had high fever and called in as I was told, the nurse hung up on me instead of connecting me to a physician. When I filed a complaint they said they had no idea who was on staff then!?! Imagine being on medication for pain you have a fever its 11PM and you get this "care." When I went for physical therapy one of the so called physical therapists forced me to do something which injured me worse yet again the complaint against his horrible demeanor and incompetence were negated. Today I went to see my primary care physician and waited an hour and a half for a cursory unsatisfactory visit that lasted 15 minutes; I asked several times to get my blood type and was told it is unimportant?? And most of all is that no one there seems to have a clue as to my problems with my shoulder, it is like some kind of joke going to this hospital. I have heard worse horror stories from many people in town. It is a factory, there is no real care here to be found. Oh and they blame the system, government, but never take responsibility. And lets not forget the supposed patent advocates who also do not care and one totally messed me up giving me wrong advice and then dropping the ball after i was injured in their facility. I would have to write a book to give all the details to these horrible experiences. And the majority of the employees are so unhealthy it really makes you wonder. Shame on this place.

I rushed my very sick loved one to the ER with a medical emergency, without triage, and without any help or support, we were pushed to the waiting room. With my loved one in full panic, screaming, vomiting, and shaking all uncontrollably, i got her outside the doors into the fresh air where every passerby offered help in horror. My only response was that they knew we were here. With fears that she would start seizing on the concrete right outside of the "ER" I called 911. When the ambulance arrived i was told that they could do nothing. They could not treat her because we were at the end destination. No gurney, no blanket, no oxygen, no fluids, no duty to act. The nightmare continued! We never received medical treatment there that day, but they did call the police because my car was in the ambulance bay. Way to go Jefferson General and EJFR! Way to help make the worst day of my life!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Beginning with the staff, from the caring and positive maintenance people to the clerks to each of the healthcare professionals, no question was left unanswered; and the positive attitude and response from everyone is felt immediately, nurturing, healing. The people of East Jefferson County are blessed to have this level of professionals caring for us. The new facility is a huge improvement and the food gets 5 stars as well; amazing cafe with such a creative, delicious menu and so reasonable. My husband is now home after spending 6 nights there and healing from a stroke. We both feel he could not have been in better hands anywhere in the world. Thank you.
