I have had several experiences with the good sam, both physicians that work for the hospital in their own practices (but do surgeries at the hospital) and the staff at the hospital itself. If you just want to go there for blood-work its fairly quick and the nurses are wonderful. But if you need any surgeries beware! I had to have a laparoscopy done and I awoke from my surgery to have the nurses say to me "we apologize for the brush burns and scars due to the dull equipment" WTF dull equipment? They tried to cut me open several times with a scalpel before realizing it was DULL! Then that doctor left for the day without prescribing me pain medication! Thank God I had a wonderful sister in law that tracked down the right people to get it for me. Couple weeks later at my check up I had joked with the doctor that he was going to pay for my plastic surgery (he had brought up the surgery and apologized himself) and he said to me "first you need to lose some weight" I am 52 and weighed 120-125 at that time (and also was pregnant one week after the surgery though i didnt know it). 3 years later my two year old had his thumb badly cut in two places and it was the closest hospital. When we arrived we were told its very busy and it was at least a two hour wait! The waiting room was filled with people that were plain as day there for stupid issues like colds and backaches. We ended up leaving and having a friend in the medical field help us superglue his cuts, probably saved a couple thousand dollars anyway and 8+ hours of pointless waiting. Oh and I forgot to mention they also hire unexperienced just out of school doctors and nurses because it benefits them financially (well the CEOs pockets). And just to throw one more tiny story for your reading pleasure, Father in Law got taken there for chest pain, the doctors there said he was fine and gave him more blood thinners that evening he was taken to a different hospital where they did emergency open heart surgery to fix all four of his blocked arteries. Im sure there are wonderful nice people working there, but you need to go through so much crap to find them its almost not worth it.

I went for hernia repair surgery and from the minute we walked in we were taken care of so well! I had heard bad things about this hospital but didnt experience even one thing bad . The nursing staff was very kind and attentive and the doctor himself came out to the waiting room to tell my wife how surgery went. They took really good care of me and were sensitive to our needs. Would totally recommend this place for surgery. My wife had surgery at Hershey and while they have a great reputation and I appreciate the care she had there, you kind of feel like you get lost in the crowd there and Good Samaritan seems to take better personal care of the patient and you DONT feel like another number coming through. The nurses even wrote a personal goodbye note on a card for when I was discharged, So cool! Lastly, they have nice clean facilities and had a nice waiting room and an awesome cafe/restaurant that even catered to food allergies for my wife while I was in surgery. So far i really like Good Samaritan and appreciated the care we were given.

i walked into emergency room and they asked me my issue, i explained the pains i have been having, to keep it short high fever, elevated heart rate and blood pressure of 182, they put the three together and told me that there is something very wrong inside of me, within about 20 min they had me on a gurney wearing a gown, an IV in each one arm and a hand, blood work done, x-rays and scans. needless to say then kept me over night, the nurses, assistants and all the staff were very kind with great bedside manners, multiple times they kept stopping by my room and asking if i needed anything, i went in on a Thursday evening, they kept me all day Friday then released me on Saturday afternoon, they were great, may God bless them all, because of the GSH my mother is still with me, i have nothing but praise for them, i hope that they treat others as they have treated me. Nurses are Gods special gift to hospitals.

They need to make it warmer in the ER. Vasoconstiction is not good for IV access. Still I have a few good viens in my hand and forearm but the nurse decided to start the IV in the antecubital space. It was brutal and left a 7CM hematoma. We were always taught that was "last resort site". Then she forgot to open the line for the saline to go through to flush my CAT scan dye. I didnt see it as it was behind me. 7pm, 7/17. The doctor was miffed. But I was sent home with PO antibiotics and told to push fluids. We used to have IV teams. Some nurses really suck at it. The doctor was good overall. The CT scan guy was good. Someone should be doing triage on walk-ins. Some were obviously frequent flyers....one morbidly obese lady came in after me, laughing and kissing her BF and got in ahead of my abdominal pain and fever.

This is a hospital that struggles in an economically depressed area. This city has four or five low income housing projects that the city advertised in New York to fill. As a result of this, and unfortunate economic decisions by the city, the tax base cant support the budget or job growth. This means that a large percentage of the patients the hospital treats are unemployed or underemployed and cant pay for services. Welfare health coverage is an oxymoron. Those with health insurance pay more for the same treatment given to welfare patients which means higher deductible costs. In health care the city gets the health facility it can afford.

I was working at a Job site close to the hospital when I fell short of breath. I called 911 and was transferred to Good Samaritan. I have never been to this hospital before and was about 45 minutes from home. I have to say that It was the best experience I have ever had. From the time the Ambulance picked me up to the time I was discharged I was very satisfied with the care. It turns out that it was a repeat problem I had when I was younger so I had experience with how another hospital handled the issues. Everyone was extremely helpful and attentive to detail. Thanks to all that helped me. GREAT small town HOSPITAL.

My father was admitted in January with food poisoning from undercooking his chicken. He was 82. Good Samaritan sent him home with c-diff. He was readmitted to Good Sam for the c-diff and contracted a staph B infection. Was treated for that with antibiotics, sent home, two weeks later, readmitted for c-diff, which finally killed him on June 23, 2016 at 6 a.m. If I had taken him directly to Lancaster for treatment, which is where we eventually took him to try to turn things around, I might be celebrating Christmas with my dad right now. His death was absolutely unnecessary. So, you know, Merry Christmas, everyone.
