We had Dr. Serra be Albis "main" vet, and even though we clashed in our methods and ways at first, I got to learn that he really is just trying to do his job (and lets be real, I am not a DVM). I took my GSD here where had gotten diagnosed with perianal fistulae, which ended up with a pretty grim prognosis as to what would happen to him. Dr. Serra changed his diet and gave him the first line defense medications for PFs (metronidazole, prednisone). Albi had 2 more visits afterwards that proved that we would need some heavy stuff to get him better, but on our last visit Dr. Serra had a really amazing moment where he had found a study that proved Protopic (study I had found before as well but decided not to step on his toes) would be helpful, and he also had a pamphlet on the medication on his desk that was mailed to him by chance. So he put him on it, and it made me incredibly happy that he noticed when something new needed to be tried. Albi eventually got better thanks to work from a conventional vet who also worked with traditional chinese herbal medicine (Dr. Stephanie Torlone), as well as a holistic vet (Dr. Sharon Doolittle). But Dr. Serra helped us with what he knew, and he really became helpful with figuring out how to treat Albi with the cheapest drugs possible (if it was possible!). I should point out - Dr. Serra was the only vet in RI a few years back to successfully treat and cure a patient with leptospirosis, and he is known in the region for being an excellent vet. I was pointed in his direction by a vet student, and if I was for all conventional medicine, Id still be with him (he didnt seem to keen on holistic medicine when I asked him). But my dog proved to me that sometimes a blend of mother nature and conventional is what will get a patient back to good health. Also in the office is Dr. White - a few years back, Albi got really bad diarrhea from eating a hot dog at an outdoor party, and he was very good. He helped explain what was going on with him, what the meds were and why, and then he took the time to show us how to taper the rice and chicken mix we had to put him on. So overall, you had a good chance with whomever you get here.

Wouldnt recommend them. Actually, we had been contemplating moving our dog to a different vet for a while - $1200 spay, $400 visits, $300 ultrasound (dont forget the sitting fee since they cant tell you when the traveling ultrasound will be in town) and on an on. Dave Serra is not a compassionate, caring vet. He is a doctor who gets paid to care for your animal. And if they need to make more money, they can just order more tests, even after theyre >> 90% they know whats wrong. Bottom line: If your dog or cat or whatever needs a check up, theyre perfectly fine. But if you need routine testings - blood tests, imaging, urinalysis - youre going to get hammered. And dont question them about it, dont you dare! Dont "quibble" over small charges like full day crate fees (yes, they use the word quibble). Funny how people dont have any trouble telling you how to spend your money. Good vets? Maybe. Motivated by financial considerations? No doubt. And be prepared to be spoken to like youre a 5 year old, even if youre a University Professor of Biomedical Engineering. (By the way, why was EVERY other review written at the same time?)

I would recommend Dr Serra and his team to anyone with an animal. Last year my 3yr old golden Bentley . Became suddenly ill . Losing 30lbs in one month. Dr Fisher and Dr Serra first ran the commen tests to rule out the usually suspected illnesses. Also being extremely aware of not wanting to increase my expenses with any expensive tests unless absolutely necessary. During this time I was able to contact them with updated changes in bentleys condition. They were so caring and understanding throughout the entire ordeal. It took a little while to figure out what was wrong with him. But they were able to figure it out and set him up on a special diet along with his medication. It was a long recovery but they stayed in contact with me to check on his progress! When he didnt take one of the medications to well they chose another form. Im so grateful for all they did to help my Bentley get better! Thank you all for your caring and help !

I have very high expectations when it comes to vet care - WRAH are our go-to vet for our personal pets & who we recommend to our clients. They are thorough, compassionate, accommodating & I know if I need them, they will be there, no matter the time of day. One of the only Vets who still handle their own emergency calls, which I am very grateful for. Drs Fisher & Serra along with their staff do an outstanding job handling just about any temperament, be it fearful dog or emotional owner :)

My 14 year old puppy was just not eating and was very crippled and not getting along as well anymore and had cancer. We could tell it was time to consider putting him down and it was a very difficult decision. We made the appointment and your vet also stated it was time. He was very kind to both our puppy and us and helped us through the process. When I do decide to get another dog, I will use WRAH as I thought they all were very kind and compassionate in our time of need.

I have been with Wood River Animal Hospital since its opening so many years ago. They have treated all of my cats and dogs since then. The most important thing for me is that my pets and I are treated as special. They have taken outstanding care of my pets and have made extraordinary accommodations for me in helping my "children" get the care they need.

Dr. Serra and his staff are truly amazing. I moved 45 minutes away more than 5 years ago and continue to drive back for appointments. My current dog and a former dog are known as "problem dogs" and Dr. Serra has always treated them as he would any other dog. I would recommend Wood River A.H. to any animal owner.

Called on a Saturday morning with a sick dog... got an appointment at noon. Asked if I could bring in another dog for nail clipping... no problem! Polite, helpful staff, doctors are all great. Have dealt with them for about 10 years after trying several other vets in South County. Like these guys the best!

Dr. Serra is THE most kind, compassionate veterinarian Ive ever come across. He exceeds expectations in caring for all our familys animals. And he was the only local doctor willing to my guinea pig!
