I am usually very pleased with the service and care and the staff at the St. Francis Womens Hospital Emergency Room. But last night..(Friday, January 27, 2012).. was a total different story. Although, we were in and out very quickly, which was nice... the staff seemed to undermine my knowledge of how badly sick my son was. My husband and I took our 2 1/2 yr old son in because he was having serious trouble breathing.. we are sure that he got RSV from his 8 month old niece who lives with us and was just diagnosed with it the day before. He was gasping for air and started to freak out and cry and began coughing.. because he could not catch a breath. He started to become incoherant... we administered some Albuterol syrup which was prescribed to my granddaughter for her wheezing and rushed him to the ER. Of course.. by the time we got in to see the doctor, the medicine started to relieve his symptoms. The doctors... or PA.. whatever that is.. obviously not a qualified doctor.. told us that he was fine and that she could not hear any wheezing.. we brought him home with a prescription of Albuterol syrup to be filled today.. but if it were not for having my granddaughters prescription here in the house.. we would have had to call 911 out to our house. He almost passed out completely several times.. has not slept hardly at all in 2 days.. he gave a a really big scare... considering that he was starting to turn blue in the lips.. they staff should have done the right thing and given hima breathing treatment or sent us home with something that we could use until the pharmacy was open. My son can not even hardly walk from his bedroom to the livingroom or even talk without stopping after EVERY word to take quick breaths... what is wrong with the ER doctors? are they just too concerned with ppl that may be literally dying at that precise moment to give a damn about the little things that COULD end up being serious later? This is outrageous! I am seriously considering changing our insurance for my son so that he can go to Hillcrest Hospital.. though the wait time there always has been much longer.. at least the care there is the most thorough that I have EVER experienced as a parent to 6 children who make frequent visits to the ER!!!!!

I have received decent if not great care from St. Francis doctors, even from the Primary Care next door. To the best of my knowledge, I received pretty good care here, as well, although many reviews are not so great, and have me reflecting on my visit in a different light. From my own experience, however, I have to agree that many of the staff could use some warmth. Coldness and lack of response to your patient whos disoriented, uncomfortable with pretty much everything going on, and in a totally alien place leaves two questions in mind: 1) Am I incoherent or unclear??? 2) Will they be more attentive when they *have* to be????? (the answer is yes, I think!) ... I mean really? Are you too busy to talk, smile, or make eye contact? Your patient is a person, you know. Shes never done this before, shes nervous, and you wont even tell her where shes going/where she is, what youre doing, or anything about anything at all. *Thats terrifying to her. You are heightening her state of distress.* It was a minor procedure, but it didnt have to be such a cold one. I may have only nervous going in, but oh man I was ready to leave by the time they were done. A friend of mine spent a week at GHS, and the difference in personality was like night and day. Even the air was warmer. I have a personal loyalty to St. Francis from where I used to live. I know its a big network with strong credentials. But I also like to make normal human connections with people, and that didnt happen that day.

This place is a joke. After my dad was admitted into a room, he did not see a dr for 28 hours. That dr was only there one day but was wonderful. She ordered a CT scan that was not performed for over 24 hours. Also my dad asked for Zantac and it took 18 hours to get a Zantac. My dad is paraplegic and has a lot of bed sores, after I demanded to see a dr the next day, she examed my dad with disgust on her face. She spoke down to me and had no bed side manners. They left my dad laying in urine for 4 hours with open wounds. The cafeteria had like fish and fries cooked and no other choices. And about $10 for that nastiness. Took 7 hours to get extra blankets for my sick dad. Worst hospital ever. Oh and today, while standing in the hall, I noticed another patient, elderly, trying to raise himself up, I offered to help, and walked into his room only to find blood everywhere. And had to call the nurses in on someone I didnt even know. People that are older have thin skin, and will bleed profusely when cut, I might have saved that mans life bc no one was around to even notice. Pathetic

Receptionist at Saint Francis Downtown Radiology (has foreign accent) just set the wrong tone for our visit. My friend asked me to go for moral support as she is going through so things. The doctor ordered MRI of thoracic and lumbar spine and MRI of brain in June. They had her scheduled for all three now, January. She was trying to let receptionist know she didnt MRI of brain yet because she just had that done. The receptionist, who Im sure was just trying to be funny but still, said "oh thats one way to tell us you dont have a brain". I wouldnt have believed it had I not been standing right there to hear it. My friend is going through something that involves her brain and this comment was extremely insensitive and not professional for a medical facility. Ive worked in the medical field since 2006 and have never seen such an insensitive comment made so carelessly. I used to work for Saint Francis Eastside and will be contacting patient relations although the hurt to my friend is already done.

on July 31-2016 the ambulance took my mother Gertrudis Haag to ER and they put her on a respirator she was entubated and 3 hours later a 67 years old Dr. G. STUART CLARKSON disconect my mother from the life supporting machine without telling me a thing, I was there with my son and my friend Wilma and this insensitive "doctor" said she passed away and walked out of the room, no even looked at us, they treat people better at the pets hospital, this monster should no be working there. I spoke to hospital administrators and all they said was they will investigate and talk to such doctor. Iam very sad and mad for the way they treated us in ER saint francis hospital I want south carolina citizens to know this.also they damaged my mother skin in her right leg very bad they left her bleeding doing nothing about it remember Dr. Clakson at ER saint francis downtown.Dr. G.Stuart Clarkson is rude and unprofessional.

ER room was great! Only problem there the long stay waiting on a room. My mom been here since Saturday November 21 2015. She came in for chest pain. Her BP was find but all of sudden it dropped Sunday after 3. The Lung Doctor are not telling her anything. The Meds are too strong she dont know where she at! She talking crazy. If you ask question it seem to be a problem. The Doctor will not call you with updated information. Her RN is Heather I asked if would ask the Doctor to call me with a few question I needed to be cleared up. She pretended if she was writing them down. The CNA can in to put her on the potty and asked if we would watch her because she didnt want her in the bath room. And she left out the room. I have already called my attorney. How about she is on fall alert. This hospital has so many very poor professional staff. From Doctor to the CNA
