Lake Austin Blvd. Animal Hospital is BY FAR the best clinic in town. My doggie McCormick went there for all 6 years of his life. Unfortunately the poor guy had a plethora of problems, and cancer ended up shorting him. The staff at LABAH made the worst day of my life bearable. I know for a fact that Dr. Spitz, Herndon, and Wilson did EVERYTHING they could to save him and more importantly make sure his quality of life was good when he was alive. Since he was so sick, he was up there daily for a bit. Not only the doctors, but the entire staff got close to him and treated him as if he was their own. He LOVED going to the vet, even on days when he could barely walk he all of a sudden perked up when he saw LABAH was where we were going. This made things much easier when I did have to make the decision to let him go. I know he was comfortable and not the least bit scared. A lot of the staff came in the room to mourn with me, so he was surrounded by his best friends in his final moments :) They also got me flowers and gave him a tray of treats, meats, and cheese to eat for an awesome final meal. Later, I got a letter saying they had made a donation to a dog at Austin Pets Alive that had similar issues in McCormicks name. It was amazing, not only are they the best at what they do medically but AMAZING people as well. My other dog is still a happy LABAH patient and will be forever!

After reading all of the former reviews I figured this was a good place to start looking for a vet for my new lab pup. The staff was friendly and efficient for the most part. I did have to wait for what seemed to me to be a long time to see the vet. My lab puppy and I showed up promptly for his 8 a.m. appointment and then sat in the exam room for over an hour. Even thats not a deal breaker...sometimes vets get busy. I can understand that. What bugged me about this clinic is that they were insistent on giving additional treatment that I wasnt there for. As an example, I have a bottle of anti-biotics for what the vet said could be a bacterial infection on the dogs skin. All I saw was a small red dot on his inner thigh, but she insisted on treating it. They also took a stool sample to check for parasites even after I told them he was just checked for that last week and they did a skin scraping for mites that turned out negative. The vet even said afterwards that she wasnt surprised. So, all in all I paid for almost $100 in treatment that wasnt needed. Yes, I could have said "No" with more persistence...and next time I will. I love my dog, but I theres no use is wasting money on unnecessary treatments. I wouldnt do it for myself.

Weve gone to LABAH for years and, while its conveniently close, there are all kinds of bigger issues. First of all, its quite expensive. Second, the typical wait time (*with* an appt) is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before a vet shows up. The techs will come in and ask questions and take vitals, and then youre usually left sitting there for ages. Third, theyre excessive in their treatment. Just one example of this is giving canine booster vaccinations every 2 years. Theres no evidence that booster vaccinations help in a properly vaccinated dog - the incidence of the 3 primary canine viruses is essentially zero in adult animals that were vaccinated as puppies. At the very least, insist on a virus titer test to determine whether a booster shot is (or will ever be) necessary. Or better yet, find a more responsible vet. The only good thing about this place are the vet techs that work there - really good, caring people.

Im not a big review writer either, but the service we got was so over the top good - and just plain decent - I felt that I had to. Last night, we brought in our 22 year old cat for an exam, fairly sure she was dying, but wanting to make sure there was nothing that could be done. All of the staff were extremely sensitive and great, making a difficult time bearable. In the course of arranging the appointment we worked with 4-5 staff members - ALL with EXCELLENT customer service skills. Thats no accident - its a good operating philosophy at work. Dr. Lauren Cannon was the vet and she is without a doubt one of the nicest and most competent vets weve been to in 30 years here in Austin. Your mileage may vary, but if you work with the staff that was there last night (12/11/08 - I dont believe you will be disappointed.

I used these folks for a few years and my assertion is they are way too expensive, they never run on time, and often they have technicians doing work who are unqualified to handle animals ...many are in training. My last visit I had a cat with a bad leg ...because the technician didnt know how to handle my animal it jumped 3 feet off the table... With its bad leg to the floor ... I was horrified and the technician scampered from the room without retrieving my cat to get someone else to help because they were clueless on what to do ...That was the last time I went to these folks.

We brought our dog in to have a split nail removed. We made an appointment in advance and saw a doctor within 5 minutes of our appointment time. She was very kind and gentle with our dog, explained the various treatment options to us and gave us her recommendation when we asked for it. They also called a few days later to check on our dog. While we were walking to the office, someone else arrived with a dog that needed immediate medical attention. The staff reacted to the emergency quickly and calmly. We really liked this clinic and well be back.

Love love this place! They have great and convenient hours so you dont need to take any time off work. I have seen 3 different vets and all are so friendly and helpful. The office also calls a few days after coming in for a problem to check in on your animal. They are so caring and very helpful. I have gone after 5pm for each appt and have had less than 10 minutes of wait time. I think that they have improved since the reviews written about their wait times a few years ago! I had no issues with it. I would definitely recommend them!

I have been taking my two cats to LABAH since May. Based on several different appointments, I have been pleased in general. The staff have been very helpful and obviously care deeply about their four-legged patients. The only thing preventing me from giving them five stars is that on more than one occasion I have had a very long wait time during an appointment, but I think this has been due to other animals coming in with emergency problems that needed to be addressed immediately, so I cant fault them too much for that issue.
