I recently had the worst dental problem of my life. One of my teeth became infected, and the pain was excruciating. After it didn’t go away on its own in a couple days, I went to see my dentist. She said she couldn’t even extract it while it was infected, so she put me on Penicillin. From that day forward, the swelling became worse and worse in my jaw until it looked like I had a tennis ball shoved in there. The pain was exquisite. The problem was, I had back surgery and was on painkillers for a long time and had just quit them when this tooth problem occurred. So as to avoid going backward in my withdrawal, I could not take narcotic painkillers for the tooth pain. After the penicillin didn’t work, and the swelling continued to build, I went to the emergency room where I was switched to Augmentin. A few days later, when it was clear that the Augmentin wasn’t working either, I heard a rumor that a local emergency room had a dentist on staff. This was a Saturday, and I simply couldn’t take the pain anymore, so I went to that ER, only to find that they did not have a dentist on staff, and all they could offer was narcotic pain relievers, which I refused. At that point they said only an oral surgeon could extract the tooth since the infection wasn’t getting any better. When I found out they couldn’t help me, I started crying, and I panicked. I got on my phone, and started trying to find an emergency dentist who was open on Saturdays. I knew this would end up costing me a fortune, but I was desperate. I still don’t know how I was able to find him, but in my panicked haze, I saw on my phone that there was one local dentist who had office hours on Saturday. It was James Potter. I called him right away, and the receptionist asked if I could come right in. When I got there, I was seen immediately, even though I didn’t have an appointment. I pointed out to the dentist which tooth seemed to be the trouble, and explained to him that I’ve already had a root canal and spent a fortune trying to save that tooth. He took x-rays, and suspected it was actually the tooth next to it causing the problem. I suspect many other dentists would have just extracted the wrong tooth. Dr. Potter didn’t let the infection stop him from helping me. He said it would likely not clear up until the tooth was pulled, and he thought he could get it out without much trouble. Within a few minutes, he got me comfortable and pulled the horrid demon-tooth out. The swelling went down a bunch immediately, and within two days, the pain had receded to a much more tolerable level. Now, two weeks later, I have zero pain or swelling. My guess is when Dr. Potter realized I couldn’t take narcotics, he knew the only way to stop the pain was to pull it, and he did so when no one else would. He said he was glad he was going to be able to help me. He seemed to truly feel sorry for me, and his kind bedside manner put me at ease. When he told me he would be able to help, I almost cried in relief that the nightmare would soon be over. What kind of medical professional is there for you on a Saturday, with no appointment, to help in a way no one else could? And he only charged me $300, when he could have gouged me since I was so desperate for help. I’m happy to have found my new “forever-dentist.” I only wish he was also a medical doctor so I could have him as my primary care provider.

I would give Gateway Dental Group & Dr. James Potter, 5 stars for consistently providing top quality, stellar dental craftsmanship service! I have been going to Dr. Potter for several years now and he/his office staff operate in a compassionate and professional manner, always. In a single word, the entire staff is phenomenal. All patients are treated with a great sense of humanity and high standard of excellence--with caring, positive attitudes and genuine understanding. In my particular, complicated case, Dr. Potter has never turned me away and instead, has patiently worked with me to resolve my dental issues. I truly dont know what I wouldve done without him; kudos to him for helping me when no one else would. His generosity alone speaks volumes about his character....another great feature about them is that: they are open on Saturday! Without reservation, I highly recommend this dental office.

I had some tooth pain on a Friday after 5:00 pm and called Gateway (Dr. Potters office) and they scheduled me for an emergency appointment the next day--on a SATURDAY! First off, the front office staff was amazing and made me feel so welcome. The dental tech was gentle with the x-ray procedure and then when I met Dr. Potter, he was just so soothing. I am SO fearful of dentists and he made me feel not afraid right away. He examined me, found the problem and gave me the right meds to get rid of the infection. I already have a second appointment due for a teeth cleaning so that we can get my mouth healthy and I wont need to have an emergency appointment in the future!. Need a great dentist in Austin? Choose Dr. Potter and Gateway Dental! Oh, also very affordable if you dont have dental insurance.

While brushing my teeth on a Saturday morning I had a (front tooth) crown pop off. I called my dentist but he was out of pocket so I went to the internet. Although there were several dentists who claim that they work on Saturday there were very few who answered their office phones. Out of the few who did, none of them would see me; except one, Dr. Potter. The ladies at the front desk treated me like a million bucks and could not have been nicer or more friendly. Dr. Potter was outstanding!! Incredibly thorough and he treated me like I was most important patient that he ever had. Im very proud to say I have new dentist; Dr. James Potter!!!

I called this office at 9am in the morning because I had just chipped my front tooth the night before, and they scheduled me at 2pm that same day on a SATURDAY. I had called probably 15 other ones before it and most if not all were always closed on Saturday, so getting in a quick appointment for such a cosmetic emergency was amazing to me. All of the staff was incredibly friendly, and while I usually cant stand going to the dentists office, the doctor here knows what he is doing and how to keep you feeling comfortable. I will definitely be coming back here again!

This is a very cut rate small dental office. The staff is quick to book appointments like a conveyor belt system. That make agreements they do not keep, do not trust the staff. Honestly I mean no disrespect but the actual dentists are mediocre at best. Very uncomfortable pressing against my lips and no apathy for patients comfort. My last final appointment I was asked by the actual dentist that the procedure was going to take an hour and if I could come back on a later date! I was in pain and needed a tooth extracted and I called 2 days in advance!
