I had the most horrible experience with my ER visit at UT Southwester University. When I first arrived i was in severe pain, and told them, then I told them I only wanted a female dr. and they said ok well, i saw a woman but found out later the only doctor in the er was a man, so I assume she was a nurse, and said the man that came in to help her was her assist. as they continued they said I needed a blood transfussion, that normal (After we left looked it up and our bodies hold 7 not 12) 12 pints in our body and I only had 6, so they admitted me and put me in in a room and gave me 1pint of blood, and nothing for pain and nothing but water without ice that I found out that they also wanted to do a colon scope and get the bioposy of what they called a mass and i wasnt supposed to have any food or even jello if it was red , and then my sister arrived. She brought me ice water, and jello( which was red) which the nurse she asked if I could have it said of course so i ate the jello within 5 minutes the doctor who reminded me of doogie howser because he was way younger than my youngest son, came into the room and said that when the ER did the Cat Scan they found a Mass, and he thought I shouldve had the colon scope test but since I had just finished 2 cherry jellos he didnt think that was going to work now so I should at least talk to the Gastro doctor,, and my sister started questioning why I only got 1 pint of blood when I was at a 6 and they said normal was 12 and the nurse mumbled well 1 could do some good as opposed to none, and left the room as she said that. Then I thought I will just talk to the Gastro doctor, and when he got in my room, he spoke maybe 2 sentences, before a korean that I had seen in the ER room the night before came in and took over saying that they worked as a team, although that doctor that first came in never said another word, the korean man in scrubs was about 27 or 28 and was aggressive in my opinion, and he said we just want to look at the mass which was on my rectum, and I believed to be just a hemmoroid, so I hesitantly let them see and the korean doctor went ahead and spead it apart and caused it to start bleeding again. I screamed at him and he stepped back, Then after i quit crying he told me that in his medical opinion the mass was cancerous, and more than likely i would end up having to have a colostomy bag! I said all that with a cat scan and a blood transfussion of 1 pint, are you serious, and I asked for my discharge papers, and my iv to be taken out, and that was the most humiliating and devastating and painful and horrible hospital i have ever been too, Do Not go to this hospital is my review no matter what. They are misdiagnosing, and they lied to me on several occasions and through it all they never gave me anything for pain until right before I left they gave me a tylenol 3. PLEASE BE AWARE.I WOULD NOT GIVE THEM ANY STARS IF I COULDVE LEFT A REVIEW WITHOUT ONE

I gave them over $70,000 and got them paid over $1,000,000 for my father and now these SCUMBAGS WANT TO RUIN MY CREDIT OVER A $150 6 year old bill!!! Excellent care for all of my children. No complaints whatsoever. Where they fail is in their fraudulent and completely untransparent billing system. If you go there because their ER is on your insurance plan as an in network provider not only will they NOT assign you a doctor who is ALSO in network but they wont even warn and disclose to you that you may wind up with an out of network doctor. As a practical matter this means you will be 100% responsible for their OUTRAGEOUS $417 minimum charge (as of at least 2012) for a doctor their to even look at you for 1 minute! On 3 of 4 visits in 2012 their doctors billed $417 and my insurance company reduced to and paid only $73 - all the rest was adjusted downward as being not allowable and exceeding that which is reasonable and customary. On one visit they billed the $417 minimum plus another $25 for something ($442 total) and never filed with my insurance. Almost 4 years later my first notification of that OVERINFLATED bill was when it popped up on my - THEN PRISTINE - credit report! Apparently their doctors bill separately and the billing service for them dropped the ball and never submitted the bill to be paid to the insurance company - Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas - and when they finally discovered that fact they just charged off and sold the debt to a collection agency that is now trying to blackmail and extort me to pay the FULL NON-DISCOUNTED ABSURDLY OVER INFLATED ORIGINAL BILLED AMOUNT and TRYING TO DESTROY MY CREDIT! The hospital is taking NO RESPINSIBILITY for these abhorrent billing and collection practices. Numerous attempts thus far have gotten no resolution nor admission of any wrongdoing. Those in charge of their care take good care of the kids but those in charge of the money have no ethics and employ tactics that in any other industry would not only be illegal but in all other industries would be considered unethical, despicable, unduly burdensome, taking advantage of those that can least afford it, and downright deceptive. There is no excuse for failing to disclose to someone who came there because the hospital was in network that their ER physician would not be covered OR that if not, to adjust the bill to what the insurance company would have paid for the same procedure.

DO NOT have surgery at this facility!! My friend worked in Sterile Processing and I have heard terrible stories. Cleanlinessin the CS department is the LAST thing this hospital has. If you want clean surgical instrumentation, then please go somewhere else. Over half of the department is ran with uncertified employees. Sterilized loads are being taken out of the autoclaves 15 minutes after alarming, which causes condensation and is considered UNSTERILE , PPE (personal protective equipment) isnt worn by some, cross contamination occurs a lot. I heard someone will wash a bloody tray, and then with their same PPE on, will walk over to the clean side and unload the clean instruments with bloody gloves, hand wash is being wiped down with detergent and never rinsed- which can burn a patient internally, dirty instruments get WIRE brushed in the clean area, wires from the brush can break off onto the instrument-get into the set-and act as a foreign body in a patient. Tape is used as an identification measure on each instrument- which is old and flakes off into the trays and harbors microorganisms. I heard trays are just wrapped and not visually inspected for cleanliness. Lastly, they get rid of employees that come through the department that have issues with how things are ran. Please consider your options.

If i could rate this hospital without a star i would! My dad went into the ER on Friday morning because he was dehydrated. Nurse at the ER poked him once to find a good vain well didnt find one, poked him a second time & only found a vain for blood & she was hurling my dad because my dad was screaming of pain! I told the doctor she is hurting my dad, her response " well we need blood"! Well they admitted him Friday & he has been there since Friday. He is at fall risk so he cannot get out of bed without calling a nurse, he calls a nurse & they take an hour to go in the room so he can use the restroom. Yesterday Feburary 21st he told the nurse at about 5pm he needed pain medication because we was having a headache, well nobody gave him anything until 11pm & that is because he had to get loud with the nurse & she finally gave him pain medication! Another thing they dont even give him water or ice! Horrible service by all staff! Never again will i be taking my dad to this hospital & i will make sure none of my family goes there!
