Summerfields Animal Hospital is an animal care facility located at 4536 N Tarrant Pkwy, Fort Worth, TX 76244, USA. The hospital offers a range of services for pets and has a rating of 4.2. The working hours vary, with extended hours on some days.
One reviewer speaks highly of the hospital, praising the staff's patience and the quality of care provided. The reviewer mentions Dr. Metzler and Dr. Hageny specifically, stating that they are knowledgeable and compassionate. The hospital also offers boarding services, and this reviewer's dog seems to enjoy his stays, even in the presidential suites that come with aerial view cameras.
However, not all experiences have been positive. One reviewer had a particularly bad experience when their dog was boarded at the hospital. Issues ranged from non-functional kennel cams to poor communication between the front desk and kennel staff. The reviewer also mentioned that their dog contracted tracheal bronchitis during the stay.
Another reviewer had a stressful experience involving a potential chocolate poisoning incident with their dog. They found the vet to be unprofessional, overly emotional, and focused on the financial aspect rather than the well-being of the animal.
The hospital has recently faced some challenges, including the firing of two vets, leaving them with only one working vet. This has been cited as a reason for some of the negative experiences.

Our dog has been boarded in a presidential suite at Summerfield’s Animal Hospital MANY times, and my husband and I have loved it every time … except for our last visit. We checked our dog in on a Saturday and purchased extra items (doggy day care, extra potty breaks etc.) the young lady at the front desk wrote down our dogs schedule took our payment and gave us his kennel number for the web camera log in. We went out of the country and unsuccessful tried to log into the cameras all day Saturday- so I called the clinic to make sure I had the correct kennel number/sign on/ password- a staff member confirmed my information. My husband and I still couldn’t log into the cameras so I called back and was informed by a different staff member that the kennel cams had been down since Thursday- Wow I spoke to 3 different people over 2 days and no one told me the cameras were down (they were down even before my dog was checked in)- to make matters worse when I tried to confirm by dogs boarding schedule I was informed the front desk did not communicate my dogs schedule to the kennel staff- so we did not get what we paid for/requested. I clarified his already paid for schedule with the front desk again and was assured it would be taken care of( which it wasnt - I had to call back everyday to ensure my dog was receiving the services we paid for)- when we arrived to pick up our dog the front desk informed us we had an outstanding balance- I informed the staff member that we had already paid for the services when our dog was checked in – she stated that another staff member added notes into our dogs account stating we had called and requested additional items… turns out these items should have been for another dog. ( so someone elses dog was missing their requested items) I paid almost 200 dollars for this kind of service… the front staff spoke to the owner/vet and they refunded a portion of my dogs stay… which I was happy with until they brought out our dog – he looked horrible- when we loaded him in the car he began to cough horribly – I immediately made an appointment with his usual vet and was informed he had tracheal bronchitis …so my partial refund went to pay for my dogs vet visit- to make matters worse when I called Summerfield’s back to inform them of our dogs diagnosis – the girl at the front desk told me that he was not coughing like that when he was boarded ( really hard to believe since my husband and I noticed immediately) and that if he was… it was my dogs fault that he got sick because he is too energetic… I am so disappointed because we really trusted this facility. Don’t know what happen – but this facility went downhill QUICK! The young lady at the front desk informed my husband and I that it was because 2 vets were fired so they only have one working vet at the moment. Our dog will not be returning to Summerfields.

I will never return to this place under any circumstance! I had a stressful incident where I returned home from work to find the wrapper of a pure dark chocolate bar on the floor. My dog we suspected was pregnant at the time and I did know the quantity eaten and the length of time since she ate chocolate so I drove to the nearest Vet, about 3 min away. Going to Summer-fields was the worst experience in a medical setting period. I was extremely stressed and the Vet was very UN-PROFESSIONAL. She was both overly emotional and panicked about the situation as well as thinking only about my wallet. I told her I suspected my dog was pregnant, she refused to confirm that, cause you know, she couldnt risk giving me free information but proceeded after a while to ask if it came between saving the puppies and the mom who would I choose. Like what the Hell!? The pregnancy was not far along enough for the puppies to survive a delivery. She then proceeded to tell me my dog needed to sedated over night, a treatment that would cost about $2,500 mostly for keeping her overnight. It had not been the first time my sneaky Papillon had gotten a hold of chocolate, the single previous experience we took her to Alliance Animal Center. I loved the service there but it was a few minutes further so I settled. Based on that experience I knew enough to tell the Vet at Summer fields that I did not think sedating my dog overnight was necessary before trying the Charcoal. She took that as an offense and like I was telling her I knew better and said good luck trying to get her to drink enough water. Long Story Short, they gave my dog a charcoal treatment. She did not come out to talk to me after the treatment but her actually kind Tech came out after the treatment and told me to look around for the chocolate at home. I gave my dog water with a bit of chicken stock and sure enough she drank more than enough, less than an hour later I found most of the chocolate bar still in tact underneath my bed. My dog is healthy and so is her now Two year old litter. I felt it was important to share this because if I had not known better, the Vet would have used my stressful situation to make money off of me. She intentionally withheld information and displayed lack of emotional control in front of a panicked patient. If you live in the area go to Alliance instead. Dont give your money to someone so willing to abuse your situation.

I absolutely love this vet! Never a bad experience in the 2 years my pup, Dez, has been a patient there. He is a 95lb black lab that is as rambunctious as you can imagine and there are some awesome vet techs here that are always patient with him. Dr. Metzler is absolutely amazing! She is whom we had our first experience with when Dez had to have emergency surgery in 2014. Her passion for animals is evident and radiates in everything she does. She explained everything to me so that I could understand it all. Everything from my dogs behavior, radiographs, procedure, post op care, etc. She was very patient with my fur baby making sure all possibilities were eliminated before diagnosing treatment. She made me feel 100 percent comfortable leaving my dog with her staff overnight. She assured me after his surgery there would be someone on call checking up on him all night. I even got a call immediately following the surgery at 8pm letting me know all the details of the procedure and how it went. Definitely put me and ease so I could sleep at night! He even had complications after surgery and she went above and beyond to make sure he was nursed back to 100 percent health. (Even though his complication was something she hadnt dealt with at that extreme.) This is one experience I will never forget and will be forever grateful. After continuing to come back for routine care and other issues, we have also worked with Dr. Hageny. She is equally as amazing! Such a gentle, caring, knowledgeable doctor. We also use Summerfields for when we have to board Dez and I swear he loves to go! When we drop him off he doesnt even look back, hes just like "bye, Mom!" I love their presidential suites because they have aerial view cameras to check up on him, which, as a crazy mom, I need! Thank you Dr. Metzler, Dr. Hageny and staff for your continuous, compassionate care for my precious 95 lb fur baby!!!
