The Kool Smiles location on Bandera Rd. in Leon Valley was clean and professional. They take C.H.I.P. which is a bonus. They have an assessment/hygiene bay that is very clean and inviting for children and parents alike. I liked the fact that several kids could be in the same room which I believe adds to making the children feel at ease (because they see other kids getting work done. They also have benches right there by the bay so that the parents can sit and easily view their children who are in the same room and only a few feet away. When my son had to have work done, then they took us into a private room. The hygienists were very nice!! Destiny Q. was very personable and friendly with my son and I. She told my son every step of what she was doing and really made him feel comfortable and less tense. Dr. Patrick was extremely nice and also made my son feel very comfortable. This Dr. was professional in her dealings with all of her coworkers and was very good at shifting from patient to patient with tact and ease. She displayed a sense of humor and a fun attitude that would make any child feel less tense about going to the dentist. I would highly recommend Kool Smiles on Bandera Rd. The only small drawback was the intake experience with the receptionist. She did not seem to be very enthusiastic or happy; she looked rather "down in the dumps" if you will and she said that she could not find my sons insurance. I had to call the insurance and then after some time, she all of the sudden looked it up and found it. It would be nice to have friendlier and better trained person at the desk to make a better first impression. Other than this, the experience with the other staff and Dr. Patrick made the experience wonderful!!

This is the classic example of a group of dentists that only care about their bottom line and not the patient. They found out how much they could charge our insurance and they did everything possible to try to get to that amount. For instance, they pulled a tooth from my 8 year old daughter that was going to fall out on its own in less than a month. The roots of the tooth were already dissolved and in the X-rays you could see the next tooth right under it. The dentist said it had a cavity, but it was an extremely small cavity which was causing no problems to the tooth. After I questioned the decision, the dentist then lied and said it was infected. I hope he is happy with his $90 tooth extraction fee. Unfortunately, I had 3 of my children scheduled at the same time and could not see everything that was being done to each one. They did questionable things to all 3 which a reputable dentist would not do. They were also extremely rude on the phone and in person. They did not care about the patient. Their automated telephone reminder system is very irritating. It calls 3-5 times a day to remind you of your appointment. They really want to make sure you come, so they can suck you dry of all your money.

I wanted to bring my daughter here because it looked like a very good place to bring a child for their 1st dental checkup. I didnt even make it to the appointment because as soon as I walked in the girl at the desk told me that they were not able to verify my daughters insurance coverage. Apparently they wait the till the day of the appointment to verify and then the person who does that job leaves. Instead of calling me to tell me that there was a problem they wait till I show up and tell me that I have to pay out of pocket. I called the insurance provider while still there and according to them my daughter is covered. I asked if I could have them give her the information and I was told that it had to be entered into the computer by the person who left without notifying me that there was a problem. I find it extremely unprofessional that a company would neglect to inform someone of problems with insurance prior to them wasting a half hour of their day to drive there. Needless to say I will be finding a different dental office who knows what they are doing because as I said before my daughter does have coverage I even verified it myself before I left.

Very frustrated with this office. The staff are friendly but disorganized. I kept having to come back, and I didnt realize that if you see a dentist on a weekday, then have to come back, youll have to come back the same day of the week - you cannot come see a different dentist on a Saturday. They also never saw me on time, even though I was always there at least 15 minutes early and had filled out paperwork online. They kept missing things - the first time they didnt realize one cavity needed a root canal. I had to go to an endodontist for part of it, then go back to Kool Smiles 3 times afterward to get that completed. They couldnt fix a filling that they messed up on the next visit - they said they didnt have time and Id have to come back. Then I came back for a permanent crown and they realized the crown had not come back from the lab yet. Pros - they have a nice waiting room with a TV for parents, and a great play area for kids. They also send you nice text and email reminders. Its a shame theyre not better organized, especially for parents who are missing time at work.

I will NEVER be taking my children back to this horrible business. I received a letter from a debt collection agency who saying after repeated attempts from Kool Smiles, I have been reported to them to collect a debt of $112.00. I not once was contacted by these jerks at Kool Smiles, either by phone or mail. Also, they claim to have short wait times, but when Im there always 10 minutes or more prior to my appointment I am always stuck waiting for over an hour or more before my children are ever seen. After the latest incident with the debt collectors, Kool Smiles just made my decision to ditch them for good SOOOO much easier. I would never recommend this place to ANYONE. Do not give your business to these idiots unless you like fake bills for services never rendered.

This was the second time my two children went to this Kool Smiles and I have only good things to say. Getting an appointment on a day I wanted was very easy and when we arrived the front office person was very nice and my children did not have to wait long. Both the hygenist and the x-ray person were very nice to my children and did a wonderful job. The hygenist did a great job with cleaning my childrens teeth. Not only did she get their teeth super clean and white but she explained to them what and how to keep them that way. The dentist Dr. Chao was the nicest friendliest childs dentist I ever met. She has the most wonderful soft and gentle voice that really put my kids at ease. I think Dr. Chao is an asset to Kool Smiles. I would recommend this Kool Smiles highly.
