Where to begin. I was told to arrive 15 minutes early since I was a new patient. I did so, but I printed off the forms and filled them out prior to going in. I waited. It was now my appointment time. I continued to wait. It was now 30 minutes after my time. I waited, it was now 50 minutes after my appointment time. I finally get called back and its time for x-rays. We do the first part. Easy breezy. We do the second part and when I tell you I wanted to leave, I did, and I should have. She was so rough that she scratched the top and bottom of my mouth and the left side of my cheek. It was AWFUL. I really regret that I didnt leave after that. I was taken into a room to wait. Where I waited for ANOTHER 40 minutes. The hygienist came, she was great. Or so I thought. She told me I had periodontal disease because where my wisdom tooth is coming in, I have a 5. The doctor came, he was great. He told me that I would more than likely not be able to get out of my wisdom tooth because of how it sits on my nerve. That he would send my x-rays to an oral surgeon to confirm but more than likely it would have to stay. The ONLY other option would be to but off the top of the tooth, leave the rest, and that would ONLY be if the pain became unbearable. So Im like okay cool. Thanks. Was taken into another room where I had to wait another 20 minutes for the consult. (So Im up to almost 3 hours at this point) She told me I needed to pay $2000 to get scheduled to remove my wisdom tooth. The one the dentist JUST told me I couldnt get out. She went back and forth with me about it. Then told me she would run my credit and get me set up on a payment plan and take a deposit and if I didnt need it she would refund me. I said absolutely not. Then she says I would need a deep cleaning and that would cost me 1200 and she would need that upfront to schedule me. Why would I have to pay upfront? Why wouldnt I be able to pay the day of? Whole thing sketchy. Shes awful. And she was so rude. THEN I tell her, they told me in the back since Im a new patient that all of my xrays and exams would be free. SHE tells me its actually $62 after my discount. I said I dont have dental insurance. My dental discount card says "THIS IS NOT INSURANCE" on the card. And she said "well we consider it insurance," and still charged me and said if I didnt pay they would have to put something on my credit. I only paid because they had my social security number on my info sheet. Went to another dentist this morning. I dont have periodontal disease at all. So I guess the hygienist is a liar, just like the consult. When I tell you I will never step foot in Aspen Dental again, I mean it. GOD-AWFUL place! The 1 star is because of the dentist. Hes the only good and honest part to that place.

Im pretty disappointed in this place. The staff is friendly and I liked the dentist, but beware when they offer a free first appointment. I asked twice to make sure they accepted my insurance and that I wouldnt be charged. I ended up going to the appointment and was told that it would cost at least $350 to clean my teeth (assuming insurance covers it). All I wanted was my teeth cleaned, but they insisted that I needed a deep cleaning as well. I felt kind of pressured to make an appointment and was required to pay $160 up-front. The next day, I realized how stupid it was for me to agree to this (general teeth cleanings are usually covered by insurance and if they are not, they are way less than $350 so it just wasnt adding up) and thankfully they gave me a refund. However, I waited about 3 weeks and there still wasnt a refund, so I had to call about that and they said that they couldnt give me the refund until my insurance went through. This didnt make sense to me seeing as though the payment I made was for a future treatment. Anyways, the refund finally went through (about a month) after I requested it. I thought this would be the end, but then I got a bill in the mail with a statement ($75) from the first appointment that was supposedly "free". It turns out my insurance didnt cover one of the actions they performed, which is frustrating considering I asked whether my insurance would cover the procedures. I cant imagine how much my bill actually would have been if I went through with the treatments they suggested. It just seems to me that theyre about making money. If youre okay with spending extra money on a dentist and unnecessary procedures then go right ahead and use this place, but as a college student I cant afford to be taken advantage of like that.

My wife went to this office for a full evaluation with x-rays. Hygienist stated she had periodontal(gum) disease around three teeth and required deep cleaning to fix it. They gave her the full estimate for the deep cleanings and fixing a couple cavities. Quote was pretty average for dental care IMO. I started using Apsen Dental in Amarillo and suggested to my wife that she get another opinion on her gum disease Three months after the initial assessment in Lubbock she had a consult with the Aspen Dental hygienist in Amarillo and they didnt recommend any deep cleanings, rather just the regular 6 month check-up cleanings!! I know 3 months had passed, but generally gum disease doesnt get better/go away on its own. Trust me, Ive had it and had it treated few years back. Now I see other reviews/patients have had the same complaint: "You have periodontal disease", then they get a second opinion and you dont have any gum disease. I know dental/medical professionals opinions are subjective, but when theres a pattern of behavior you really have to question who theyre trying to benefit. Needless to say really, but she wont be going back to this Aspen Dental office :-)

My Seven Star Review… shame they only allow 5. I am writing this critique attempting to express my sincere ‘Thank You’ for the awesome health care Aspen Dental at 56th and Slide, in Lubbock has given me. I entered their practice with my first set of dentures… Hurting and Disappointed, another group had just missed the mark. Aspen, I’m sure, think of their approach as a ‘Team Effort,’ and it is. But, certain individuals have gone out of their way to help me. Huge KUDOS go to Josh Moreland, the Lab Specialist that patiently crafted my new dentures. His meticulous molding, grinding and polishing have delivered the most functional dentures you can imagine. I am more comfortable with them ‘IN than Out.’ Dr. Lauren Fey carefully helped to advise each process step. I am beyond grateful and amazed at the results of their efforts. Also, a special appreciation goes to Dr. Starck, Oral Surgeon. I had lived for years with the pain of failing teeth and infections, and in one painless operation… my past dental disaster was gone. The Implants he installed have been flawless. I AM A HAPPY CAMPER! And, I can eat and live again! Thanks. I am grateful! Jimmy Lane
