Ken Melrose

Dr. Mortensen is an excellent optometrist, no question and no doubt. I had an excellent experience, he was quick, helpful, kind and extremely funny. I was initially skeptical because his office was smaller and less technologically equipped than my previous eye doctors. However, Dr. Mortensen truly knows his profession and after he set me up with a perfect prescription and the exact right pair of contacts, I was certainly at ease! The icing on the cake though was that after giving me a full eye exam, he billed it as a check up for my insurer because they wouldnt have covered a second exam this year, saving me a ton of money! Dont hesitate to come here, youll be treated well!

My wife and I have been going to Spence for our for 22+ years. Weve experimented with other optometrists closer to our home in Sandy, but always return to Spence. for anything out of the ordinary. Optometry is more than a profession for Spence. It is an opportunity to diagnose and solve complex problems related to eye issues. He is excellent for general eye care, but for diagnosing complex sight-related issues he is the "best of the best." The icing on the cake is his humor, vast store of memorized poems and genuine concern for patients as individuals. Be sure to ask him to recite the story of "Udishthra."

I wish I could of tried this doctor out but I couldnt find out because as I called to verify that they worked with our insurance the decidedly poor costumer service of Chelsea who answered the phone seemed put out to help me answer such a question. She said for me to call my insurance but I had already and they said to verify with the doctors office. She said they dont offer such assistance...I so loved Dr. Hulet at Familys Focused Eyecare but UHC wont add them to their panel. Ugh. Well I just hope Dr. Mortensen takes note of his staff they are loosing him costumers.

I was told by my last couple of eye doctors that they couldnt correct my vision past 20/40 in one eye, and about 20/25-30 in the other. Dr. Mortensen sent me out of there seeing a sloppy 20/20 for the first time....in as long as I can remember. He was incredibly helpful, and I could tell that he really cared about helping me achieve the best vision that my screwed up eyes could manage. He went over lots of different options with me, and is helping me choose the best one. So glad I went to see him; I wont go anywhere else.

The doctor is nice, but I quit after 4 days. I had much better training from my previous employer. These guys are utterly stuck in the Stone Age and not even HIPAA compliant. I felt like I had to teach them everything about current laws. If you pay by credit card, prepare to have the number written on a sticky note, only to be ripped up by hand later, not even shredded. One lady in particular that works up front is a complete mess. I mostly left because she claims to be an optician, but she had no clue what she was doing.

I hated going to the optometrist before, because it always felt really creepy being in a small room alone with a guy who is an inch from your face. Dr. Mortensen not only helped me feel comfortable, but made it a fun experience. When I went in later with a problem, he was concerned and gave me a free sample of a very expensive product, more focused on helping me than getting a bigger check. I am so glad to have found him and highly suggest him as an optometrist.

Ive been going to Dr Mortensen for about 25 years. Hes one of the most personable, friendly people you could meet. He cares about your health, your family, and you in general. His office staff have always been great and he works with you when needed. His office is proof that large chains and fancy offices arent the best places. We made the mistake of going to another place last year and I will never go to another Optometrist other than Dr Mortensen again.

I have been coming here for almost 3 years and Dr Mortensen is amazing. Super nice, lots of fun to be in his office. He really cares about his patients. However, his front office is full of less competent people. It has taken us days to get the correct prescription to buy contacts at Costco. The Dr is great, but beware if you want to buy somewhere else, be prepared to have a miserable experience.

Dr. Mortensen took the time to listen to me. Instead of sending me on my way with "your eye sight is good enough and not worth a small correction" he listened to the fact that I was bothered and made sure I was taken care of. He was very thorough looking for other possible issues that caused a blind spot and answered previously ignored symptoms. I would recommend him to anyone.

Excellent service and a fun character too. The newer office staff are also great to work with. My wife has gone to Dr. Mortensen for years, wears contacts, and has always been pleased with the service. I have good vision but aging eyes and now do an annual exam that I find very worthwhile.

Didnt see Dr Mortensen, but came to this optical shop with a prescription and a need for glasses to help with computer-aggravated eyestrain. The glasses were perfect! Im at the website today because I lost them and I need a new pair. Excellent service by this office.
