Dr. Michael P. Teske, I cannot sufficiently express my disappointment at the events that have occurred in reference to my office visit yesterday. I honestly don’t think I have ever written a letter of complaint before, but I am furious! When I left your office yesterday I felt as if your office staff acted with total incompetence, but today logic struck - your staff isn’t incompetent; they lack training. When I visited my optometrist on July 20th, I went for the sole purpose of finding out if anything could be done about the floaters in both of my eyes. When he sent a referral to the Eye Institute he did so with one purpose in mind - to find out if I was a candidate for surgery. The scheduler from your office knew I had floaters and knew that the only reason for my appointment was for a surgery consult. She also verified that Aetna Insurance was on your list of approved carriers. Then, after waiting over a month for my appointment, after wasting a half-day of very precious sick-time from my employer, AND after spending two hours in your office (which I remind you was not a fact finding mission) your surgery scheduler breaks the news – The Eye Institute accepts Aetna Insurance, but NOT at the surgical center upstairs!!!!! How, please tell me, on God’s green earth is it possible that somebody didn’t know this valuable piece of information before my appointment. AND now to add insult to some level of incompetence … I get to start all over again with ANOTHER doctor. I can only hope that Aetna Insurance will process another claim with another doctor for virtually the same condition. Don’t worry though, I’m sure Aetna will rush your claim right through. Sincerely Disgruntled Patient

Exactly what I expected. I researched LASIK for about 2 years. Finally got a good recommendation from an ER Doc friend of mine. Both he and his girlfriend had eye procedures with Dr. Wolsey, and both of them loved her work and results. So, I walked in expecting high standards, and Im happy to say I got them. Both consultations were very professional and personal. On Dr. Wolseys recommendation, I only got LASIK on one eye, the other eye required such a small correction, we both decided it may not be worth the $$ or risk at this time. The actual procedure was amazingly calm, personal and professional. Very procedural, I heard multiple double and triple check calls by the team while I was laying on the table... you could tell the 4-5 person team was operating on very tight protocol. In and out of the laser room in about 10 minutes. Followed the eyedrops protocol religiously. That night was already seeing clearer. 4 days later, I was no kidding wingsuit basejumping without glasses, something I hadnt done in 10 years. I know, Ive got issues. Anyway, things just got better from there. The 1 wk follow-up by a 3rd party eye doc (I live 4 hrs away from SLC) got rave reviews on the precision and accuracy of the laser correction, I was seeing 20/15, and got a thumbs up for eye healing well and looking healthy. He also seemed envious about the new laser used by The Eye Institute. His verbology was a little technical for me, but he said its probably the best laser table in the state. Strongly recommend Dr Wolsey and her team. Thanks for the great vision!

The eye exam was the best Ive had. The people were really nice. It was honestly a really good experience. Until I got a bill that I was PROMISED ... THREE TIMES.. that I would NOT receive. I was told that they would bill my insurance company, because it was considered a MEDICAL procedure.. and that my charge for the day would be ZERO, ZIP, NADA, NOTHING!!! So I called the billing number on my bill. I spoke with a woman who sounded like she had an IQ of about 23. After asking me for my name about 6 times, and not finding anything, she said she finally found me. She then went on a rant that HAD to be memorized from regurgitating it so many times. "Your eye exam is free, but the prescription for your eyeglasses isnt free. It says that on a sign right where you check in." I asked her why, then, had THREE people told me that there would be NO charge for ANY services for the day? Its a bait and switch. That "free eye exam" isnt free. And they wont tell you anything about it until you call to question bill. And the billing department doesnt care one iota. They just want your money. I wouldnt have cared at all if they had just told me what to expect. Dont tell me "FREE" and then send me a bill. That is at the very least unprofessional. And more closely, insurance fraud.

I was very impressed with the Eye Institute of Utah. I went to them for my LASIK surgery, and Im so happy that I did. 1) The staff is friendly, professional, and helpful. Laura Ellison in particular was great at answering all my questions and helping me feel comfortable with the process that was ahead of me. 2) Dr. Wolsey is great. Shes a busy woman with lot of other patients, yet she had a way of making me feel special even in our short meetings. I can only imagine that she gives this same individual attention to all her patients. 3) The atmosphere at their facility is clean, quiet, and comfortable. They surpassed my expectations. I came out with 20/15 vision with only a hint of my former astigmatism. (For reference, I couldnt even really see the big "E" without glasses before my surgery.) Great post-op care. After a week or two, I didnt even feel the need for artificial tears to keep my eyes moisturized. I can see!

I am so glad I chose The Eye Institute for my Lasik! From the initial consultation, to the surgery prep, to the surgery, to the post op care; the experience was wonderful. Every person I dealt with was very patient, considerate and friendly. Dr. Wolsey is very professional and a great listener. Im grateful for the time that was taken to ease my concerns and help me understand the process. She also talked me through the quick, painless surgery. It is miraculous to go from depending on glasses or contacts every day to waking up and being able to just see better than 20/20. These folks really want to provide the highest quality care for each patient. It is important to have realistic expectations and a fairly good understanding of the process. It is also critical to follow the doctors post-op care instructions. I have already and will continue to recommend this institute to friends, family and strangers.

Excellent and friendly staff, and Dr. Cionni is a very experienced surgeon. I came here for ICL, a few years after being told I did not qualify for LASIK or PRK because of thin corneas. Dr. Cionni came highly reccomended by my optometrist for this particular procedure. I was a little worried that my vision wouldnt be as clear as it was in my contacts, because I could see 20/15 in my toric contact lenses and ICL does not correct astigmatism. I did not even have to mention this to Dr. Cionni aince after looking at my chart he reccomended a small laser procedure to help with my astigmatism along with the ICL. It all went perfectly, no pain and I was seeing 20/25 upon leaving the surgical center. I was pleasantly surprised that within a day or two I already had 20/15 vision again. I had a great experience, very happy!
