We thought they were great, but when our little one started having problems walking it was one expensive test and visit after another with no results, so we got a second opinion. The second opinion did the right test the first time -- an x-ray and found the problem in one visit. VCA sent us for an ultrasound because they said that the probable cause (kidney stones) could not be viewed with an x-ray. What that expensive test revealed was that the already known condition wasnt something that needed retesting and it didnt bring us any closer to knowing what was wrong. The new vet did an x-ray. EXACTLY what you would expect the first course of action to be on a dog who was having problems walking. In one visit they found that our dog has torn ligament in his knee Oh and guess what? They also saw the Kidney stone that VCA said woundt show up on an x-ray. VCA apparently couldnt figure out that our dog had a torn ligament with $1000 and 4 visits, when all they had to do was an X-ray to see everything they needed to see. He is about 11" long, one film would get most of this little body! The worst part is that he has been going basically untreated for a month and a half while they did nothing but run up our bills and suggest more pills. Which got us to talking to the new Vet about our other dog, who went in to VCA for a teeth cleaning and while they had him for the teeth cleaning they called us in a panic that he needed to have 14 teeth extracted because of bone recession. We trusted them and told them to go ahead. 8 hours later they sent us home a limp groggy dog covered in blood! Here is the real kicker... "Teeth can generally be saved until they have lost about 66% of their bone support from one or more of their roots. Your veterinarian can determine the extent of bone support loss by taking x-rays of the jaws." Guess what they didnt do? You guessed it x-rays. Somehow they were able to tell that he had enough bone loss to justify removing 14 teeth, but they didnt do any diagnostics! This cost us over $1000 and they warned that he would probably have to have the rest out in the future. Guess what? They were wrong again. Just to round this out, recent phone conversions included such gems as them wanting an appointment to figure out why our dog had lost his appetite while in the same conversation telling us that the pain pills they had given him would cause appetite loss. And when we said we were getting a second opinion because they were not using our money wisely they suggested that we make an appointment with their un-certified but more expensive surgeon -- their description! Im angry and sad at the needless suffering my dogs have undergone at their hands.

Do NOT go to this place. They are definitely for-profit, greedy folks who do not care about the outcome of the treatment they provide. I wish we would never become their customers in a first place. Our eight year old Scottish terrier started to limp and we took him to this hospital. Dr. Averill suggested a simple X-ray test of his leg. During X-ray procedure our dog was hurt so much by Dr.Averill that he could not step on the foot anymore. Then we were told that he needs an operation because now the ligament was torn completely. We agreed again. In a conversation about complications of operation we were never told about dangers of anesthesia. Dr.Kenney performed an operation. Our dog died 4 weeks after operation due to the massive liver failure caused by anesthesia. We didnt get any support from the hospital: they right away referred us to the emergency care. Doctors told us that our dog liver was probably not normal from the start. However, he never was diagnosed in this hospital with liver disease and all his blood tests were showing normal levels of liver enzymes before operation. We are absolutely devastated: we lost the best friend. We will never come back to this place and will make sure no one else does.

Ive been taking my cats and dogs here for years. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. Sometimes I feel a bit pressured to follow a checklist of treatments (like being guilted into getting dental work done, or having a billion vaccines done...), but if I say I dont want to do something, they will respect that. The cost is pretty high, but all vets are expensive, and they offer a couple of different options to help (care card, insurance...). The thing that keeps me here through the years is that all of the staff, from the receptionist to the tech, to the vets, seem to really understand how wonderful pets can be, and genuinely care about animals.

I have dealt with some really bad vets in the past so im very picky. VCA Brown gets a 10/10. The people at the front desk were all polite, friendly, and helpful. They got me in the day after I called. When I arrived they gave me an aromatherapy sheet to put next to the carrier and it calmed my cat right down. He was purring through the majority of the visit. That was a nice touch. The vet really knew her stuff. She had detailed and thorough answers for everything and was very thorough diagnosing my cats eye issue and making sure he was in perfect health. Ill definitely be going back.

I have a Bernese Mtn Dog who has had her fair share of health problem (comes with the territory of owning this breed!). The vets here have been AMAZING with either helping solve a problem or recommending specialist/more effective treatment elsewhere (TPLO Surgery they did not perform). They have always been friendly, quick, and more then accommodating with scheduling. Also, my dog enjoys going here, so that is a HUGE plus!

Brown staff had a slot and my Big Coon Cat had a scrap the other day. Brown Vets let us bring him in late day on the spot and found Coon cat had a nasty cut tongue, gave him antibiotics, pain killers, and pretty much gave him the royal treatment. Ive always been very please with the high quality care Brown has provided my special Puss. Puss appreciates the care very much, Mraaaow! Thanks ...The Wrights, Essex

My dog was very sick, I brought him in to see the doctor. Usually, the treatment there is good. But, that day, my dog was treated so horribly by a rough and crude assistant. Her attitude was beyond rude. I walked out because I did not want that energy around me or my beloved dog. He died that day. I will never recommend VCA. Ever.

We took our aussie/rottie mix there on 8/20/15 for ACL surgery. They treated us and our dog so good. They were all friendly and helped in any way they could. Dr. Kenney was outstanding and we would recommend him to anyone needing any surgery that your pet needs. Five star rating from us!

Dr. Kenney has done two ACL surgeries for my dog, Farrah, both times were a great experience, he genuinely cared for my dog and her well being. Farrah is now back to normal after having both ACLs done a year apart! Will defiantly be back if needed!

Prompt scheduling, friendly staff and providers, and they offer sound advice. They have accommodated boarding, routine physicals, acute illness and even a trauma for our small dog. Consistently high quality care.
