We had a great experience with the staff and care we received at Greenbriar. We had family visiting from out of state with four dogs. Their oldest dog has some complicated medical conditions. While here she had fallen off the coach and was having difficulty walking. After doing some research we went to Greenbriar Emergency Vet. Although we did have to wait some time upon meeting with the vet it was clear why. She took her time with us and really went over our options. Instead of doing a bunch of unnecessary tests and medications, she felt it was more appropriate to see a speciality vet. Because the dog didnt appear to be in pain, has a complicated medical history and the dog didnt appear to need emergency surgery, she felt in order to get the best care a neurology vet would be able to provide the best care. She got on the phone and spoke to the emergency vet in Richmond to see if we should go right away or wait until Monday. The vet saved us a lot of money not charging us an arm and a leg while at Greenbriar when it wasnt necessary. She also took the time to call the vet instead of sending us out the door and having us drive to Richmond that night. We were incredibly grateful for her care and services and were able to go home and rest better with minds at ease and knowledge of what to do and signs to look for if the situation became an emergency. Would highly recommend.

I feel terrible reading the recent poor reviews of Greenbrier and so Im compelled to comment. While I have preferred certain staff members over others (some tend to exhibit better empathy; others are more strictly fact-driven), I have experienced nothing but professionalism from this clinic. Our beloved dog fell suddenly and inexplicably ill this summer, and I truly believe some of the measures taken by these veterinarians might be the reason he is currently snoring next to me as I type this review. I live close to 30 miles away, and the kind of care he needed at the time exceeded what my daytime vet could provide. Though it was a stressful experience all around, we felt we were leaving him in good hands each of the three nights we dropped him off at Greenbrier for monitoring. Finally, its worth noting that while I was incredibly grumpy (and sad!) to be there in the middle of the night, worrying about my dog, all of the employees were--by contrast--cheerful, alert, and efficient. I cant imagine having to sacrifice sleeping on a traditional schedule, or foregoing time spent with loved ones on weekends and holidays; so, Im very grateful that there are folks out there who are willing to do it--and who seem to love to do it.

I had no idea that Greenbrier was so new when I took my cats there last month because I received such high quality care. Not only were the staff members extremely empathetic and realistic in laying out my options in a time of pet crisis, but the care that I received was top notch. I was referred to Greenbrier by my local vet and I am so glad that I took his advice. Greenbriers rates were significantly lower than a phone quote from another local emergency vet in Charlottesville, and I did not have to compromise the quality of care that I received. Not only did the vet on duty (Dr. Davis) listen to me and sit me down to review my options/costs associated with no financial pressure to receive additional services, but they also arranged for my cat to be transported to her primary vetrinarian when I could not because of work. I also received TWO follow up calls to check in after the incident, one the next morning, and the second a week later. The entire staff at Greengrier Vetrinary Hospital was so kind, empathetic, and knowledgable that I would recommend them to anyone in a heart beat.

Outstanding, We unfortunately had to take our very sick little dog in over a holiday weekend to Greenbriar and he ultimately had to be put down. It was a hearbreaking day, but the staff and especially the vets were so professional, honest and compassionate throughout the ordeal. They were very upfront with all monetary and medical issues, empowering us to make decisions but giving us all necessary information. When it was time to say goodbye to our dog, they knew how to make the moment as private and respectful as possible. They provided a paw-print memento for us, helped us transport away his body and even sent a card of condolensce. Their genuine caring for us and our dog really showed right to the end and I thank them for making one of the worst days of lives much more bearable.

We had adopted a kitten and two days later found it unresponsive and gasping for breath, with its gums white. I called Greenbrier and they said to bring him in, but sadly he died in the car on the way. I continued on to the hospital and the vet checked him for us, told us he had died, and wrapped him in a blanket for us. Me and my daughter were treated with kindness and compassion. They let me use the exam room as long as I needed to compose myself, and even posed the kitten and closed his eyes. When I got home and my son wanted to see the kitten, I cant tell you how grateful I was that they had made him look peaceful. It was sad for us but the employees were so good to us.

From strictly a phone etiquette perspective, I was surprised by how unhelpful and disinterested they were in my questions about whether or not I should bring my dog in. I dont live close to Charlottesville and emergency vet visits can be costly so I wanted to determine whether a situation was an emergency or could wait until the morning to address with my regular vet. The woman I spoke to provided no guidance aside from "I cant tell you anything unless you bring your dog in". Very disappointing. I called the location on Airport Road and had a completely different experience- I wont plan to reach out to Greenbrier again.

Our dog Eddie was sluggish and bloated, completely uninterested in food (which is QUITE abnormal for him), so we brought him in. Dr. Ware saw him immediately, and talked us through her recommended treatment plans. Dr Ware (and all the staff) were amazing! By the time Eddie left the next morning, he was his usual happy self again. Im glad we brought our dog in, and its good to know theres an affordable emergency vet in town, should we ever need them again for any of our pets!

I would definitely recommend Greenbrier to anyone needing emergency care for their pet. The staff is very attentive and clearly care about what they do. Weve used them twice so far, and each time the quality of care has been excellent. The doctors have been knowledgeable and experienced. Even though it is emergency care which does cost more than routine care, their pricing is fair and reasonable.

Such a compassionate and professional staff. Our dog was injured while we were visiting family in Charlottesville, and we were so grateful for their quick response. The final cost was very reasonable (much lower than the original estimate) and our dog is almost back to normal already. We couldnt have been more impressed by the competence and empathy of the doctors there. Highly recommended!
