Ridge Lake Animal Hospital seemed like a great fit at first. All routine exams and vaccinations went well for my puppy, until he got into some food that didnt agree with him. I brought him in to have an upset stomach treated, and was recommended that I move forward with blood work and x-rays incase he ate a toy for example, or something that caused a blockage. I told him it was just food that didnt agree, but because I love my dog I moved forward with what the doctor recommended. Afterward I was handed a $640 invoice, even though I pay them $83/month to have him on a care plan. Afterwards I was handed a "pre-invoice" or an estimate...and I was stunned. Come to find out the vet tech was new and forgot to give me the estimate first. I brought this to their attention and said I wouldnt have agreed to the bloodwork and xrays if I knew it costed $400 extra. They admitted to this mistake, but STILL wouldnt back down. I personally own a business and recognize that if I make a mistake and do not fully inform a client I cant just slap them with a huge bill. My hairdresser gives me an estimate before she does my HAIR. The worst part about all of this, is that knowing they made a mistake, the office manager insulted me and said that shes "sorry that I have a financial SITUATION". The situation is that you have a lot of new staff that arent fully trained and didnt do their job and youre passing the bill onto me. And I was also told that FOUR different staff members quit very recently and they are scrambling to train new staff. Red flag. Do not trust this office.

Ive been going to Ridge Lake Animal Hospital since 2009. After many years of not going to a vet, I was concerned about what would await my senior cats with their first visit. Luckily for both of my cats and myself, they got a clean bill of health. Since then, Gracie has had hyperthyroid issues, a cancer scare, and diabetes. I was terrified when that diagnosis came in, but thanks to the disease being caught early by Dr. Kusterbeck, shes still kicking. At 19, Gracies slowed down a bit, but still has a lot of life in her thanks to the care shes received at Ridge Lake. Spuds nearly 18 and in fantastic shape thanks to both good genes and regular care. Minor issues have cropped up like cataracts and renal issues, and thanks to frequent visits, these issues have been kept at bay so far. The new care plans are a game-changer as well. I no longer have to worry about a high bill thanks to the basic care plan that ensures both of them a better quality of life for under $45 a month. The plans are a perfect way to ensure top-notch care on a budget. Ive taken both of them to other vets, but no place has been as welcoming as Ridge Lake. If youre a new pet owner that is a bit intimidated by the process of finding a vet, go to Ridge Lake as soon as possible - its the friendliest veterinary clinic out there and the seasonal-themed photo ops are just another way they go the extra mile for pets and their owners.

Weve been taking Nittany to Ridge Lake for the better part of the last 8-9 years (hes 10, now). The vets and staff have been nothing short of superb in caring for him, making him feel comfortable, and helping to relieve any anxiety that he has while were there. About 4 1/2 years ago, he had a herniated disk; his front paws would work, but the back ones would not. Dr. Wilson (unfortunately no longer there), quickly, and correctly, diagnosed the problem and immediately sent us to the Regional Veterinary Referral Center where Nittany underwent surgery that afternoon. Within a week after his surgery, he was walking, running, and doing almost everything that a typical dog is supposed to do. The vets are great, and the supporting cast of helps, such as Samantha and Christian (just to name a couple) also make going there a pleasure. I have a bunch of Veterinarians much closer to our house, but the 20 minute drive to Ridge Lake is well worth it. Without them, our four-legged baby might not be walking today.

I took my exotic pet here recently because Ridge Lake is the closest veterinarian to me that accepts exotic pets. I came in hoping for something decent, but instead got this: I waited for 30 minutes after my appointment until the doctor finally decided to help me. The checkup was $100 just to take him in, and when the doctor diagnosed something wrong, the medicine almost doubled the price even though I was only given a small amount of medicine. On top of that, the medicine did absolutely nothing and my pet is still in pain. This place offered more treatment for an insane price, which I sadly dont have the money for, and I highly doubt it would even work considering the effects of the last medicine. I would not reccomend bringing your exotic pet here so just travel the extra miles to another vet.

The mark of a good business is what they do when theyve screwed up. A few years ago I started taking my dog to Ridge Lake for grooming and veterinary care. Service was outstanding. About a year later, they hired a new groomer who made some mistakes. When I called and reported what I found, Ridge Lake went above and beyond rectifying the problem. Theyve since hired another groomer who has been fantastic with our dog. The veterinary care is also outstanding. I can pull my dogs shot records right off their web site without even going in to the office. Too many businesses would have gone into CYA mode - Ridge Lake went into problem solving mode. Good business, great people!

I have had two of my four legged kids in to Ridge Lake Animal Hospital in the last month as we have recently relocated to this area and are establishing care with a local vet. I have been more than happy with the care I received when I took my 8 year old Border Collie/Lab mix in to see Dr. Custerbeck. We were treated well and got to the root of a problem I have been dealing with for over a year. I recently took my 10 year old Siamese to see Dr. Pierce and she found some issues that need to be addressed promptly. I am happy with the care we received and look forward to developing a relationship with this clinic.

We found Ridge Lake Animal Hospital in June 2009 while looking for an avian vet for our sun conure. The front desk receptionist is always friendly and great at scheduling both routine and emergency appointments. Dr. Kusterbeck is gentle with her and thoroughly explains her treatment. The assistants are sweet and caring. Especially Paige, she is Tiki’s favorite! We often use their boarding service. Knowing that they truly love and care for her takes the worry out of our traveling. We’ve had nothing but positive experiences and Tiki always receives the best care.

After living in Northern Virginia for 6 years and changing vets 4 times, we finally found the perfect vet in Dr. Pierce. She has an incredible empathy for the animals in her care and always has a cheery demeanor. She even has the ability to break bad news without making you feel like a terrible pet owner (several other practices I’ve experienced this). Combine this with her obvious experience handling difficult cases, and you can’t go wrong. After finding Dr. Pierce, I wouldn’t go anywhere else in the area for our 3 cats and dog.
