I have taken my dogs to Banfield forever (used to take them to the North Winston Salem; Dr Scott there is FABULOUS). When I moved to Raleigh I had to keep the wellness plans that Id signed the dogs up for when they were puppies because of the contract I signed. So, I checked out this Banfield which is near my house. I have never met a more unprofessional front desk and pet nurse staff in my life. Ive seen a couple of people comment on Benji and I agree.. he obviously doesnt want to be there and puts a horrible face on what Banfield CAN be. There are a couple of other unhappy people that work there and make it uncomfortable to go there but there are some people who are nice. Also, one of my dogs is allergic to vaccines. So, she has to get a pre-shot before her vaccines... not a big deal in Winston Salem. Here, they wont do anything to her without a catheter inserted first (hello $30 extra dollars). Also... once the plan was expired I dropped it and WHOA those office visit fees add up and the vaccine prices shoot up a whole bunch. I have 5 dogs and I try to take them all in at once to get vaccinated. Without the plan I had to pay an office visit fee (full price) for every single one of my dogs... and when my male had spots on his eyes they told me it was fine and to let it go and I came back because they were getting worse...they FINALLY referred me to an ophthalmologist and we determined that he was allergic to chicken. Getting rid of chicken and giving him a daily eye drop got rid of almost all of the spots (they will probably never fully go away). I faxed them all of the results from the ophthalmologist so their medical records could be complete...and the next time I went in, they tried to give me an ointment for his eye for the bumps. Seriously?!?! Another thing... I have Border Collies. Any herding breed should not be given Ivermectin (in most heartworm medications) because they are pre-disposed to be allergic to it and can kill them. Even if it doesnt immediately, they can have reactions any time they are given a pill . I didnt find out until my dogs were a couple of years old that it could be a problem and that I needed to switch... once I did research on it I learned just how awful it can be. How is it that several trained medical professionals didnt even bother to tell me not to give my dogs HeartGuard or any of the other brands they sell because they all have Ivermectin in them?!?!?! Apparently each Banfield is independently owned and they can make their own rules and regulations and decide whether things are necessary or not. I got a quote from another vet for what it would be for all 5 of my dogs to get vaccinated and it came to about $800.... Banfield charged me $1200 for the exact same thing. Next time their shots are due, I am not looking back.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience! WAITED OVER AN HOUR!!!! I had never gone to Banfield until today. I did read the reviews and even though they werent good, I figured to be fair to the hospital, Id try them out. Things can change and you never know. BIG MISTAKE. My appt. was at 2:00 p.m.. After sitting in the exam room, for what seemed like forever, I fianlly got up, and asked the receptionist what time it was. It was 2:45! I told her my appt. was at 2:00 and she apologzied and said someone would be right with me. I went back to the exam room (with my dog) and after waiting another 15 minutes, I decided to LEAVE! I went back up front, told them that I was going to have to leave, and that I just couldnt continue to wait. By now, it was 3:05! I got there a little before 2:00 and had been there an hour and 12 minutes! She apologized again and promised me a vet would be right in. Well, 1 min. later, the vet came in. After the exam, the vet tried getting me to buy their "wellness plan." No thanks! She then tells me my dog had allergies (he doesnt to the point of needing pills) and tried selling me allergy pills. No thanks! When I got OUT of my vehicle, to walk in this place, it was about 1:50. When my dog and I came out, it was 3:30! All that, for a 2:00 appointment??????? I dont think so! I will NEVER go back. I dont give a damn if its free for life! Id rather pay more, spend more gas money and more trime driving to a vet that will actually SEE us, in a timly fashion. And for the record, there was NO emergency! PLEASE heed these reviews! I did not, because I wanted to be fair and give them a chance. DO NOT waste your time. This place SUCKS! I have never waited this long, EVER! The receptionists were VERY nice! I do want to add that! Nothing wrong with the front desk, when I was there. They did seem a bit frazzled! But they were very nice and apologetic to me. LASTLY, and this IS worth mentioning: When they quoted me the prices on the phone, for the rabies shot and the office visit, they did NOT mention the $3.00 MEDICAL WASTE DISPOSAL FEE. They absolutely, did not mention this fee. So, basically, they "snuck" it in. Be aware AND beware: Banfield Pet Hospital is BELOW the bottom of the barrel. If you love your pet, go somewhere else.

My wife and I were excited because we had just received a chihuahua puppy from one of our neighbors! We have only been married for about 6 months at the time and this was a huge step for us. We knew there was something visibly wrong with her but we had never seen or delt with this situation. We happily took her to banfield inside petsmart. Long story short, our lil puppy was not given a great diagnosis. She had hydrocephalus. We told each other we were willing to give her the best life possible and banfield was willing to back us all the way with their wellness program. We were scared, excited, worried and relieved that banfield was willing to be a partner with us. We opted for the more expensive program because at the time our plan was to get her fixed down the road if we made it. We also knew that if our puppy past away the program cant be transferred and we were locked in until the program had run a full year. Thats fine, we understood and was willing to take the chance even though they had already said she would probably only live 6 months. Nothing but the best for our new baby! 4 months pass, we had some hiccups and grew aware of seizures and how to handle them very quick! Were still going we have banfield, unlimited visits, nothing to worry about. Were going to fix her in a couple of months, shes doing good. That was not the case as come to find out there was no way our pup could handle anasthesia. Banfield told us this 6 months into out plan. Well okay, what can we do? We opted for the more expensive program we told them. They said well, we will keep the plan going and can give yall a credit of what the operation would normally be. We agreed that the figure was around 100-120.00. This "credit" was a verbal agreement. Ill have to check but I dont think it was wrote down and signed. Needles to say our mistake later on down the road. Our puppy lived to be 1 year and 6 months old when she finally had to be put sleep because of cluster siezures. The pros: friendly staff, clean, helpful and access to prescriptions for her. Cons: wellness program was falsely promised, hours, different drs all the time, they dont have emergency hours. I asked them if we could use the credit but then was denied because "it wasnt on file" liars!!
