First off, we had a Westie, named Contessa, Tess for short; we took her to Pungo Vet clinic all her life (15yrs 4mo). They used to be awesome; the Vet used to let us go back w/ Tess for shots blood draws ect. We loved that Vet! The current Vet is the opposite, we would take Tess in, and they would take her in the back, treat her and bring her out. We took her in a couple of years ago for ear issues, they took her back and treated her ears w/ something I dont even know what its called now, but never told us the possible side effects were deafness, didnt know that until we called back about a week later asking why she was deaf, and that is when we found out about the possible side effects. Well that dreaded day came when we had to send her to Rainbow Bridge OCT-23-2015. I dropped her for an emergency look about 8:40am, they said they would check her out and I should have her back by noon. 40min later they called me at work w/ bad news, she was in renal failure, and there was nothing we could do but send her away peacefully. We agreed, when I got there, they had already sedated her without giving me a chance to say goodbye, she was too drugged to know I was even there, they gave here the final shot, and then she was gone. They were gracious and sympathetic, didnt charge me for the procedure, and provided a way to have her cremated and remains returned to us. They took a paw print in some clay, cut a tuff of fur, and sent a sympathy card signed by the Techs and Vet, and that was much appreciated. The problem I have with this issue is they presumed to know what was best for Tess and I. The family should know all aspects of the procedure, the pros and cons, and let the family make the call to sedate before saying goodbye. I have grieved and have been angry that I didnt get to say goodbye. I didnt want her think I left her there alone to die by herself, un-loved. Even though I was there with her during her final breath of life, I truly believe she didn’t know I was there. This and other issues are why we will never take our pets to Pungo Vet in the future.

I went in seeking service as a new customer for my pet. There were a total of four employees standing in the hallway and at the front desk to greet me. They were all friendly. All having the time to acknowledge me when I came in the office . I explained I was seeking a well pet visit for a new cat. I was told at the front desk that they were not taking new customers because it was a slow time of year..?? I was told they wanted to hold open some of their appointment slots just in case.?? Then I was told to call back next week and see if they had any available openings.?? Good train customer service techs would have taken my name, put me on a waiting list, told me they wouldve called me back with an opening, apologize for the inconvenience, and even possibly try to squeeze me in one of their openings during the week, or possibly offer to call me back if they have a cancellation. Ive lived near this Office for years. I try to support local businesses as much as possible but when the business doesnt treat their customers professionally then one must find another source of service. I always give people a second chance. This couldve been just a bad day for the desk receptionist and the three other employees standing in the hall, so if there are any changes to services in the future I will come back and change my rating. They earned one star because no service was provided by the company.

Very impressive staff. Honest to goodness animal lovers and advocates. Treated my Maltese with gentleness and kindness. All of the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Prices are reasonable and they dont perform unnecessary procedures. The vets take time to explain everything they are doing. They are involved in several community services. This practice was recommended to me by my groomer (also a dog rescuer). Any veterinary practice that has that very homey feel, and has a recuperating dog behind the receptionist desk, getting constant attention, gets my vote. This isnt a "fancy" place, but has that Pungo down-home feel to it. Decent size store area, stocked with pet food, dental and grooming products, leashes, collars and toys. Kid-friendly, as well. When a vet limits their number of clients because they dont want to lose the close rapport with their current clients, that in itself should be a testament for their dedication to their profession. Call back every so often if they arent currently taking new clients. Its worth the effort. (I just wish doctors offices would do the same, rather than the usual cattle-call!)

My family has used Dr. Attia for years as our family vet. Now that I have pets of my own, I brought them in to Pungo to be seen. Unfortunately, I have had the displeasure of being stuck with Dr. Stolzenberg. She has been consistently agitated and curt every single visit. My dog had a medical issue and was taken to the emergency vet on a Sunday (Pungo vet is closed). She was incredibly terse when she found out we had sought emergency care (I guess because she didnt get our money?) Throughout the treatment of his condition she has shown little interest in my dogs well-being, as well as failing to explain anything that is going on. Have already found a new vet. Its really a shame, the front desk staff are all so nice. Wish we could have gotten Attia.

Im a first time dog owner, and this was my first vet visit. Im sorry to say Im very dissapointed. The vet tech told me she was going to take my dog back to the exam room to get started while I stayed in the waiting room filling out paperwork. The vet didnt even introduce herself, much less explain a thing she was doing to my dog. She seemed to be in a hurry; I felt like I was interrupting her when I had questions. My appointment lasted -literally- 15 minutes. I went to Pungo Vet because I heard they were more affordable than most vets, which is true, but it doesnt make up for the complete disaster that is their customer service. I wont be going back.

Ive been doing business with Pungo Vet Clinic for close to twenty yrs. About 20 yrs. ago my cat had a reaction to a shampoo. By some type of divine intervention i called these wonderful folks by chance going through the yellow pages. This happened on a Wed. when they usually close early. I explained the problem& they in turn urged me to get in asap. They actually stayed open to accomadate me. Well here it is almost 20 yrs. later & now they take great care of my dog Ralph. I live in Norfolk but I wouldnt trust anyone else but these wonderful woman to care for Ralph. These ladies "ROCK" Thanks, Tony & Ralph

Love all the folks at Pungo Vet!! Theyve been taking care of my fur babies for almost 30 years. So very caring and compassionate. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They have literally "SAVED" my pets from sure death over the years. I cant say enough nice things about them. I see that a few bad comments are only because they cant take more patients. Its not a big practice, but it is a good one. They are only limiting their clients as to give quality care to the pets. That doesnt deserve low marks... quite the contrary. You all get a BIG FIVE STARS FROM ME!!!!!!!!!!! (and my pets). :)
