I have three birds and finding a good avian veterinarian can be a particular challenge. I wen t through two other offices before discovering my current vet office, Grafton Animal Hospital. It is one of the best I’ve found in Hampton Roads. The staff is always friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Their website is a great resource, and they send me e-mail reminders when I need to make an appointment (about every 6 months for birds), but also call to remind me of upcoming appointments. My appointments have almost always occurred on time and the only one that was a bit late (15 minutes) was on account of an emergency that came in before me (which I had to appreciate because I would expect my emergencies to take priority over regular well-care visits!) Even at this, they were apologetic, explained the situation, and offered to reschedule me if I needed them to. In the exam room the vets ask thorough questions (the hallmark of good diagnosis), listen to my answers, and explain tests, treatments, and charges as completely as I need them to. Everyone that has handled my birds has been so caring and gentle, doing their best to alleviate the stress of the experience for both me and the bird. They even have a dedicated avian exam room, something I really appreciate as it shows their commitment to providing services for my feathered pets! When I did have an emergency they were very calming both on the phone and at the office, got me in right away, and made sure that I had the knowledge and medication to help the bird heal once home. On top of all of this their charges are very reasonable (I have checked around!) and they even provide boarding for birds as well as dogs and cats at an equitable rate. I am so thankful to have found them!

Thank you for saving my hamsters (Shwartzele) life not once, but twice with the antibiotic for the giardia; Baytril for wet tail; the SQ fluids, the microwaveable pad for warmth; and the Critical Care nutrition mix. He recovered so well that he was the star attraction for 3 preschool programs at the Tabb branch of York County Public Library. He was a real hit with the children there. Since he was a male and not the female I had desired, he is now with a friend who recently lost one of his familys hamsters (all with their own cages.) In fact, he just purchased a new $55 cage on sale for him. I now finally have a new female who is named Khoshekha again and she is adjusting well so far to her new environment. She has lots of energy, in fact, she discovered how to climb out of her playpen after an hour which my other hamsters never ever did!!! Needless to say, I quickly bought a new cage which is actually a little smaller than the play pen area (yet supposedly large enough for a small guinea pig), and she is now secure again. Thanks for all your excellent treatment and compassionate concern.

Just wanted to say the coffee and cookies are a lovely touch! I LOVE that you complete the check-out process, including payment right in the exam room! Sooo convenient! My cat had two unfortunate findings in her lab results. Dr. Frost called me twice, and spent a great deal of time explaining everything to me, and offering her support. I cant tell you how much I appreciated that. I cannot think of a single way you could improve. The staff is friendly and welcoming, everyone is compassionate and genuinely concerned about the health of their "patients", the clinic is kept white-glove clean (MUCH cleaner than my home, Im afraid!). I witnessed a dog urinate on the floor in the waiting area because he/she was so excited. One of the young ladies behind the desk came out immediately with disinfectant and paper towels and cleaned it up. And she was very reassuring to the dogs owner that it happens all the time. She made him feel comfortable in a situation that might make him feel awkward... Its the little things that set you apart. You ALL are great!!! Thank you for everything you do!

I have two three-year-old cats, and I have had a wonderful experience every time I had to take them to the vet here. The doctors and staff here are absolutely awesome and I can tell that they really care about my critters. It is a little bit pricier than other vets, but it is totally worth it for the level of care and compassion that my animals receive here. I also recently had to board my cats, and when I asked for an impromptu tour of their boarding kennels, they were more than happy to oblige. With this being my first time having to board my cats, I was still nervous, but the kennel staff were very understanding and gracious. I was even able to pick up my cats after hours on a holiday, and when they got home, they didnt even act traumatized at all (they were their normal silly selves). They even gave me "report cards" on how my cats fared while being boarded and what their activities were. I love my two cats and definitely want what is best for them - Grafton Animal Hospital is it. I would absolutely recommend this veterinary hospital to everyone!

Above and Beyond. I have been going to this vet for over six years. They have not only taken excellent care of all of my pets, they strive to really find out the problem. It wasnt until my cat was near death, that they were able to save her and give her a proper diagnosis of asthma, that no other vet cared to look into. Through the health care of our animals, and through the recent passing of our two, they have been like family. When our cat stopped breathing one day, it was a quick call to the vet, and as soon as we got into the facility, they were able to save her through this amazing oxygen box they built for asthmatic felines. They are always willing to let us see the entire facility, and it has been amazing and impressive every time. Not once, have I seen anything not up to my high level of standards, and believe me, I would be the first person to note if it wasnt. Im not sure what experience these other people had, but I can tell you I have witnessed nothing but respect, love, and care for our animals.

My dog was recently in for a bath when one of the Grafton Animal Hospital staff noticed a lump on her foot. The doctor was able to look at it and even test it to find out if it was something we should worry about. The doctor was very concerned and offered to send it to an outside lab to confirm her findings. She was even able to take an x-ray to find out if the lump affected the bone. I was amazed at how quickly the doctor brought the x-rays up in the computer and relieved when we got the lab results the next day. My own doctor probably would not have been able to run lab tests or do an x-ray all in one visit. I was able to have the lump removed during our last boarding visit and my dog is recovering quite nicely. Grafton Animal Hospital has professional Doctors and the advanced technology that will allow me to keep my pets at their best health.

My golden retriever had arthristis hit her hard over a matter of a few weeks. Could hardly stand up without assistance. A friend told me to investigate lazer treatment. My internet search let me to Grafton Animal Hospital. I have to say I was reluctant, had my friend hadnt told me about it, not sure I would have tried it. That would have been a huge mistake on our part. After (3) treatments we noticed a difference in our dog. After a week she was able to jump out of the car on her own. She is so much better. She loves getting the treatments and the staff is very kind and gentle. It is all positive. We dont have to watch our dog struggling to get up. The lazer treatment has no recovery period and we were super pleased as to the affordability. We were considering some expensive alternatives. Recommend it 100%
