I have had a very frustrating experience at this clinic, and I am honestly blown away by the characters of the people working here. My husband and I took our dog in because our dog broke two of his toes and he had a lot of swelling. They were polite at first, but the first frustration I had was that they made us pay (almost $600) before we were told what services they were providing to help our dog. They did give us a ballpark of what they were going to do, but when it came down to it, they added more stuff that was unnecessary. They put a splint on our dog and wrapped it up, and expected us to come in for the next four weeks to pay for them to change the wrapping and get more X-rays when they already charged us close to $600. They also gave us pills to give to our dog to suppress him and to also help with inflammation. Our dog could barely get up from being so drowsy from the pills and he never wanted to go outside to potty because he didnt have the energy. About 5 days after getting the cast on, our dog started licking his cast and it got very wet so we decided to take it off since the moisture would not be good for him and was causing a fowl odor. As we took the cast off, we noticed 3 open wounds that were not there when we first took him to this clinic. The wounds were deep, very bloody, and you could see so much flesh and bones (this is the reason he was licking his cast). We immediately called this clinic to see if we could take him in because however they wrapped him up or however they dealt with him, it caused him severe injuries and we needed them to help. They told us that they could not see us until the morning, and that if we were really concerned that we would have to take him to an emergency clinic (and pay another vet bill for an injury that they caused). We told them that that is not acceptable because they caused the injury by wrapping him too tight or putting the splint in the wrong spot. All in all, they refused to see us until the morning and told us to keep his wounds unwrapped and to not let him move for the next 20 hours until we would see them. This was very frustrating and very emotional. The next day, we drove almost 45 minutes to another island to see them just for them to tell us that we were rude to them on the phone and that we would have to find another vet to care for our dog. They refused to help our dog who has severe wounds on his already broken foot, and they denied to pay for the damages that they caused us because "you probably let your dog have too much activity and thats what caused the injuries," and that could not be because the medication they gave us knocked our dog out. Very disrespectful people for not taking responsibility for their actions, and causing strive and money loss for services that they did not provide. We took our dog in hurt and we left with our dog hurt even more.

The Wheaton way veterinary clinic has managed my animals care for about 6 years. I found them on a whim. My black lab that I loved, Millie, was on her last leg. The vet we were taking her to could not figure out what was going on. Millie kept diminishing and diminishing to the point she could no longer walk or eat. My plan was to have her put to sleep but I wanted to give her one last chance. I opened up the yellow pages and told myself that the first vet I turn to is where Im going to take her. It was Wheaton Way Veterinary Clinic. I remember thinking I dont even know where that is and Ive lived in this area my whole life. When I found it I realized why it is tucked just off Wheaton way. I carried Millie through the door and within 5 minutes I met Dave who is the owner of the vet clinic. I remember thinking that this guy was pretty young which left me slightly skeptical. We chatted for about 5 minutes and I told him that I was going to have her put down if there was not anything he could do for her. He gave her a hand over hand inspection and diagnosed her. She had cancer in her spleen. I was pretty skeptical because my other vet had seen her 4-5 times and done blood work, x rays, etc. with no diagnosis. If I remember right he did confirm it through imaging. He told me "I can give her 6 more months" . 6 months sounds bad. However, when you thought you were going to lose your dog right there it was pretty good. After the surgery she was like a puppy. The next 7 months were high quality. I was able to spoil her and I spent a lot of time with her. When she started getting sick again I was kind of desperate to extend her life again and I really appreciated the fact that Dave let me know in so many words that, its probably time to let her go. I appreciated a professional that has a financial interest in doing more treatment but has ethics so high that he ignored that. Since then Dave has proved himself over and over that he makes calls based on science and not money. To be fair, most veterinarians are great people and Dave is an exceptionally good person. Millies last moment was with Dave at my house in the lawn on a sunny day. To my knowledge, this was not even a service he offered but he had also bonded with Millie over her treatment. That sort of care is unique. Over the past 6 years I and my family have continued to take our animals to Dave and his other wonderful veterinarian Dr. Curan. I am always confident that my animals are in the best hands. Its nice to know that if they need a surgery he can handle it. As a small business owner I know the importance of reputation. I have learned that putting your reputation out there for anybody is risky and I am very reluctant to do it and there are only a hand full of people that I would do this for. Dave is absolutely one of those people.

When my dog fell ill during an extended summer stay in the Bremerton area, I booked the earliest available appointment at Wheat Way Veterinary Hospital. I arrived early with my beloved pet and was quickly provided with friendly, helpful, and caring service. The staff and vet who worked with me and my pet were fantastic, and the doctor took time to explain everything to me. Having been a dog lover/owner my entire life, and after the countless veterinary experiences I have under my belt, this was easily the best, most comforting and quality visit to the vet. Everything was fantastic, my dog was very comfortable, and I had no doubt she was in good hands while being treated here. Ultimately my pup wound up being treated based on an educated and very systematic diagnoses which I was able to understand and felt very good about. She began recovery from a kidney infection within 24 hours, and the vet was incredibly helpful in terms of assisting with travel planning as well as budget concerns. Highly, highly recommend this clinic for any pet owners in the greater Bremerton area!
