Well, the anesthesiologist (Gordon Leftenant) was a gift from God. He was empathetic, tried really hard not to hurt me with a spinal anesthetic (and succeeded), friendly, informative ... I just cant say enough good things about him. The nursing staff on the orthopedic floor is understaffed. The morning after surgery (and I only had a spinal, not a general), nobody asked me if I wanted breakfast. I dont live at the hospital and thought that the staff would automatically take care of my getting fed. I had to ask FOUR times before I got any help (like the phone number of the patient cafeteria), and, although the cafeteria people were very helpful, by the time I got their number they were closing for breakfast, so I had little choice in what to eat. I almost missed breakfast because I had to attend an orientation meeting at about the same time the food was delivered. Before I went to the meeting, the nurses overmedicated me (for pain) so that I fell asleep several times at the meeting, which was very embarrassing. The hospital pharmacist took away all my meds that I had brought with me, saying theyd be "safer" wherever he was taking them. When I was ready to leave, none of my psychoactive drugs could be found. They were found after a half hour or hour, but they should have been properly labeled and stored. And I believe that I could have kept the meds (being my own from home) in the cabinet in my room, even without a lock. Or the hospital could have told me to bring my own lock if I wanted the meds to be kept in my room. One of the nurses, an assistant, had missing teeth and looked like she lived in a trailer park. The hospital should pay their nursing assistants enough for them to have healthy teeth and be kempt. At first she was rather jolly, but as time went on, she became irritable, which shouldnt happen with patients. The recovery room was nice.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was with the labor and delivery ward at Capital Medical Center. Both the staff and the facilities were exceptional for our entire stay. From what I understand, Capitals L&D has recently undergone a pretty ambitious renovation. (In fact, our nurse told us that the renovations ended Wednesday and we checked in just the next day.) We were assigned one of the new rooms, which is 1 1/2 times as large as the room it replaced (3 rooms redesigned as a roomier 2). Having toured when the older room was still the standard, I can say that the upgrade is significant. The new room is much closer to a hotel room than a stereotypical hospital room. Theres hardwood-style laminate flooring, new lighting fixtures and a new, larger pull-out couch for the mothers support person to sleep on during the stay. All the nurses we met were incredibly caring and professional. They listened and supported me through little things like my fear of needles and big things like, well, delivering a baby. Katie and Laurine who were with us during labor came to feel like a part of our family over our three-day stay, but everyone was wonderful. They were always on hand to ask if we needed anything; and we were comfortable turning to them with first-time-parent questions about things like nursing and swaddling. One of the things I like best about the department is that we were able to stay together in our room the entire time we were there. Unlike St. Peters, delivery and recovery happen all in the same room at Capital; so we werent faced with moving location in the midst of labor. After she was born, our baby was able to stay in the room with us with the exception of a couple of visits to the nursery to be weighed and evaluated. We feel really glad about our choice to deliver at Capital. We would absolutely do it again.

Throughout time, there have been surgeries and ER needs that have ended up at Capital Medical Center. This past year, with my son in a motorcycle accident and my need for follow-up for a broken toe, has been the WORST experience of medical and billing care. If at all possible, I will never step foot into CMC. Their billing department which is connected to SCHUMACHERGROUP, definitely not people friendly nor care to provide help. They are strictly a collections company of some sort for patients that are billed in need of care. They disclaim insurance providers of patients. They ask for your card entering their facility. After, you receive a friendly call from billing offering you a discount if you pay up front for services rendered in the ER (or otherwise). After paying, you receive a bill from Capital Medical Centers billing, Schumachergroup, denying your insurance provider and asking for full payment or collection. In my case, my insurance provider has stepped in several times, escalating this issue, with Schumachergroup claiming their doctors are out of service in the providers listing. However, they are showing "in". Unfortunately, this billing fiasco has tainted my feelings about Capital Medical Center from here on. BTW- We are still in the thick of this escalation through Regence/HMA and Schumachergroup with this medical facility and their lack of patient care, whether in hospital stay or AFTER.

My Brother was admitted here last night , keep in mind I havent been to cap med center since 2000 when I was pregnant at which time I dumped my doctor there becausee she was absolutely freakin rude , but last night they called me to pick up my brother , @11 pm, I get there @11:30 they tell me oh well he wont be leaving so just go home, I live clear in lacey from west oly, they assured me he would be released early this morning not 10 mins after I had driven away ? , they call me as soon as I get in my door and want me to turn around and come get him, at this Point I am livid , Not to mention the people answering the phone are insanely RUDE , when you walk into the ER you are immediately hit with the pungent smell of sweaty armpits, and there is garbage and filth EVERYWHERE ,My brothers room was disgusting and unsanitary Over all I cannot believe this place is allowed to remain open ? where are the standards of cleanlieness and I dunno just plain telling the truth ? . Not to mention I was given a speech about enabling my brother ,because I chose to not make him walk to tumwater where he lives in the middle of the night ,I truly believe cap med center should be shut down its disgusting , I am thankful I have never been hospitallized here
