We had brought out 6 year old American black lab Loomis, into the emergency hospital here at Sumner Veterinary hospital around 6 am this morning. She had been vomiting the last two days with some blood mixed in it. We Called told the vet that Loomis was asked to be put on Prilosec OTC a few days before she had to get surgery this Friday on her right knee. (She already had one on her left a couple years ago so it wasnt unusual but we took her off yesterday then called next day) after she started having blood in her stool is when we took her in this morning. She had diarrhea with the vomiting. Then just diarrhea and when I say diarrhea I mean it looked like streams of blood came out. Shes been doing this all morning so we finally took her in at 6 am when they opened. We got there they took here back within 10 min. Ironically because we were the first ones there. We sat in the back room for 45 min before they grabbed loomis and did the images and testing. Then waited only 20 min for her to come back saying results will be in within the hour the latest. We were able to go home where she would be more comfortable and then go back when they call. My mom decided to go back at right after we got back to try an get results faster an if loomis needed to go back in for an emergency id bring her there. She got back to summer around 9:15 to 9:45 and sat there waiting ,10:30 comes around they call my mom into the back. She waited for 20 min....nothing. Sure I can see why it kinda took a while to get results or answers because another dog came in on a gurney when we were first there an just leaving and had to have emergency surgery. Totally understandable, but your gonna tell me its taking over 3 an a half hours to get an answer from results typed on a paper. Im sure they could have found someone to help us. We were theyre for an emergency as well. Finally my mom left the back room and came to the front desk and told the lady at the front desk , we were taking loomis to another hospital and that if there is anything wrong with her or she passes, that sumner will be held responsible. We took her to "timber ridge Dvm" in Bonney lake right away and took her in the back and had me send the pics of her stool with all the blood. And said they wont charge us an emergency visit for bringing her in and they would call us asap. So we leave timber ridge. Mom gets a call right when we get to lunch down the road at 1150 ish. Guess who has the audacity to call us ? Sumner emergency veterinary hospital....hi were calling you because you were not in our waiting room anymore but we have loomis results, Immediately mom said I dont want to hear what they are you call my vet at timber ridge where shes at now and tel my vet. If you ask me you get what you damn well pay for with your animals care and health...we dont hear the results from summer we dont pay

My cat Babygirl got sick on Memorial day weekend, rather she was sick before but my normal vet just dismissed it as a behavior change. Since she wasnt snapping out of it and stopped eating on Memorial Day I took her to my vets recommended ER vet hospital which is Sumner Vet. They were amazing at Sumner Vet, both to my husband and myself but most importantly to my beloved Babygirl. Unfortunately she ended up having a very aggressive form of cancerous lymphoma that attacked her bone marrow so that she wasnt producing blood cells. Amazingly through pain management and a couple of blood transfusions they kept her alive long enough for me to get back home as I was out of town for work. They understood that Babygirl was not a "pet" to my husband or myself but a beloved family member that saw me through several tours of duty that my husband did in both Saudi and Iraq. No price was too high to pay for any of the treatment options that they suggested to us, we tried every single one of them but unfortunately had to be less selfish and decide to let her go as she was having problems breathing and was in a lot of pain. My cat would have been diagnosed with the disease much sooner had the previous vet ran a simple blood test when we told him that her behavior was odd. FYI, more and more cats are getting Leukemia younger and younger so dont scrimp on having this blood test done at any age! Also, an indicator that something could be medically wrong or that your cat is pre-cancerous can be a simple blood test that checks for high calcium levels in the blood stream if you are unwilling to foot the bill for the FLK test. Yeah they are a tad expensive, but for me and my husband our treating her like our child instead of "just a pet" influenced how they interacted with us and her. I guess we had treated her like a "pet" instead and immediately asked about how much a procedure would cost, they would have behaved differently. I recommend them to everyone who will listen now, and dont recommend my previous vet, and I will most likely never use the vet previous to Sumner Vet again. Bottom line is I would rather have a vet that understands the depth of caring my husband and I give to our animals we are lucky enough to have in our lives than one who shuffles them through like fast food orders. Thank you Sumner vet for making one of the most difficult times in my life much easier than it would have been at a different vet.

Dont send pets you care for here. They gave our dog wrong dose of medicine and wouldnt even call and update on dogs condition! Full Story: We went to get our two silky terriers updated rabies vaccines, and because one of the terriers has a hard time with vaccines they decided to give a dose of benadryl before giving her the vaccine. They then come out to inform us that they gave the 12lb dog twice the amount, 1.9 instead or 0.9, and would have to monitor and care for her closely in case she she she has a severe reaction. They initially said that my grandma could stay 3-4 hours until she improves and shows to be stable to go home, my grandma would have stayed by her dog the entire time except she cant see in the dark to drive and would be stranded there all night unable to get home. She was distressed and didnt call me until on her way... On her way home I then call and tell the clinic that her family will drive her back and that we will stay and then take her dog home when its safe. The veterinarian gets on the phone with me and tells me they dont want the dog to leave until 8 am now with NO explanation and says well have to come in the morning. I explain that this is an older (though healthy) dog who has never stayed overnight in circumstances like this and how distressing it is for owner to not know how shes doing in a strange environment crated while going through something like that, and I then requested phone calls to update us so we know if she is improving. They tell us that the overnight doctor will call before 10, but they didnt my grandma had to call around 10:30. They then say theyll call at 6 am with an update and they still didnt call, owner had to call them and the staff has the audacity after their medical error to tell my grandma "theyre very busy". It was horrible enough to give the wrong dosage to a dog, causing who knows what harm, and potential for severe repercussions, but to not follow through with the promised phone calls to a worried owner and lack of communication is shocking to me! We picked the dog up with bruises from IVs and no communication from the original Vet, who I guess didnt want to face us.
