I was feeling pretty OK with Brooklyn Cares at first, but then started getting frustrated as their communication skills seemed to be deteriorating. Then last weekend was the final straw. I took my dog in at 10am for a two hour procedure - they were to take a fasting blood sample, feed her, then take a post-meal blood sample at 2 hours. At 10:20 I was told by Dr. Mann that she was eating, and would be ready to go home at about 1pm. I called at 1:00 to ask if she was ready to go home and told "not yet". At 2pm I called again to ask if she was ready to be picked up and was told "not yet, well call you." At 3pm (now 4.5 hours after she was fed, 2.5 hours after her post-meal blood draw should have been done) I went over to the clinic to get her and was told by the "office manager" that this procedure "typically" takes 6-8 hours and she would be ready to go home at 4 pm. This claim made by an office clerk was a direct contradiction of every conversation that I had with the doctors (Id had at least three separate conversations) about the protocol for this procedure, and a contradiction of what Dr. Mann had told me that morning. At 4pm when they finally released her to me, and I asked for an explanation of why she was kept for 6 hours for a 2 hour procedure, I was again handed over to the office manager to answer my questions, not a doctor. The office manager told me they take "multiple samples, to make sure they get a good one" - clearly a complete fabrication - the protocol is to take a baseline sample then a single post-meal sample, two hours after food. I called the next day and left a message for Dr Mann to call me to discuss what happened. He didnt call me. I called on Tuesday and asked if Dr Mann was planning to call me, was told that I had been on the call back list and she would send him an email to call me. He didnt call. On Wednesday evening I received a call from Dr. Donovan to discuss the results of the test. She had not been told about any of what happened on Sunday - I told her the story, she seemed very reasonable - said that there was no reason for my dog to have been kept for six hours, that she would follow up on what happened because she now questioned the results of the test, and that she would call me back. I have now not heard back from either Dr. Mann or Dr. Donovan. This was a completely inexcusable failure to communicate with a client, and showed callous disregard by the staff and doctors for both me and my dog. I believe they botched the procedure, and were unwilling to admit their mistake.

Dr. Mann has made a very sloppy effort to hushup my important story from both here as well as other review sites. Please read on: Where do I start? Brooklyn Cares bookmarks one of the most terrible points in my adult life. My story is considerably sad so if you are faint of heart when it comes to animals do not read further. My adult healthy male cat had a urinary tract blockage. Fooled by the high star rating on another review website I brought my cat here. The establishment was filthy, the back rooms seemed unsanitary, the vet-techs were non-nonchalant and unprofessional. Change some of the poster art and add some shelves stocked with ho-hos and you wouldnt be able to tell this place apart from your standard BK bodega. I left my cat for 2 days for a whopping $1300 (comparable to other vets) When they discharged my cat I noticed he was lethargic and having difficulty breathing. We immediately brought him to the emergency 24 hour vet clinic to find that he was going through severe congestive heart failure. Thats right, Brooklyn Cares discharged my cat while he was "in" congestive heart failure. After an additional $2K and an extremely emotionally devastating period for my girlfriend and myself we found out that our cat had so much damage to his heart caused by the fluids from the blockage that if he didnt block again he would only have two years to live. He blocked again, and we were stuck in a catch 22 where the vet said had we tried to unblock again or give him a surgery he needed to more permanently solve the problem that he more than likely die in surgery. We had to put our cat down. Im not going to go as far as to say that Dr. Mann and Brooklyn Cares killed my cat, and Im not going to say that they gave him the underlying heart problem that lead to these course of events. But why in Gods name would have they ever discharged a cat that was clearly going through congestive heart failure is beyond me. Brooklyn Cares called me on the day after I had to put him to sleep to check up on him, completely unaware of the trouble. I informed them and never received so much as an apology from Dr. Mann. If you see your animals as little person and love them in that way, please find another vet.

This is my first negative review of a place ever, but I felt like its necessary for others to know to be careful when taking your pet here and following the advice given. I would give one star, but some positive aspects make it 2 from me. First the positive, because there is: - Good, caring vet techs. - The staff genuinely all seem to care about animals. -They are great about confirming appointments and giving courtesy calls afterwards to check on pets, which I thought was very sweet. However, I was given some advice that led to me giving my cat a very large dose of sedative, a dose very close to the maximum and probably too large for his weight (as I was told afterwards by a different vet). I have intense cats, and was initially given acepromazine with the instruction to give 1/2 a pill before my cats appointments to chill them out. When I got to the first appointment, the vet told me that that amount was too small, and I should give my other cat 2 whole pills (he would be coming the next day). This seemed like a lot and I asked the vet several times if this was safe and if he was sure it would be OK- he assured me yes. So I did it. My cat was loopy but OK before the appointment, but an hour after getting his shots he deteriorated. His third eyelids closed so that his eyes were almost shut and he was completely cross-eyed. He could barely walk. He started falling over. This lasted several hours. My boyfriend called an emergency clinic for advice and was told that the amount given was very large and probably too large for my cats weight. The emergency vet actually called me back suggesting that I possibly bring my cat to the ASPCA to test him for blood poisoning. His symptoms were very similar to a human with alcohol poisoning and led me to staying up all night with him to assure that he didnt fall too deeply asleep and not be able to come out of it. Although this place is very convenient to my apt and Id love to go back, my experience was too traumatizing and I just cant risk it. If you go here, just be careful.
