My husband recently had an outpatient procedure and I would NEVER go back. I have had a few surgery and I have always had a fimalar family face there when I woke up, this was not the case as Vassar. I was NOT allowed to stay with my husband once he was awake , sitting up and alert in recovery. They have a lesion that goes back and forth to get information for you. When I love one is awake they want to see a fimalar face to reassure them that everything is ok and not being allowed backing recovery was upsetting to me and my husband. . I was also not told of his discharge instructions, he was verbal told them and then given papers with instructions , the same person they say should not make any descions for he next 24 was given a script for a narcotic and antibiotics.. It was a good thing I happened to notice during pre-op that he had a bag of IV antibiotics and was given his dose for the day because his discharge papers did NOT state when they should be given, I called the dr to find out when he should begin taking the antibiotic , which was the next day so I am glad I called. Now this was the most upsetting part for me.... I went to ask the lesion person if my husband could have his phone because the lack of communication was very upsetting and since I knew he was awake I figured he could text me, at this point I was told that he was being discharged in a little while and I should get my car and pull in front and put my flashers on. I leave the waiting area walk down the stairs, because I wanted to be quick and be there waiting for him, I go to walk out into the lobby and see my husband already there in a wheelchair with the nurse, this I found very upsetting. I should have been told way before they wheeled him out into the lobby to get my car., very mad about his!! I almost forgot to write the reasoning I was given about not being allowed in recovery which is totally BS, they said with hippa laws they dont want people listening to others peoples business n recovery but its ok to here everything going on durign prep-op its the same setup and you can hear everything that is going on in the next curtain so that is a full blown out lie! I was also told I was not allowed back there because they were to busy, they are to busy because its a meat market back there! You are assigned a number and this is how your family is supposed to keep track of you. Your number pops up on a screen in the waiting room that says in pre-op, in OR, in recovery1... Bad, bad, bad experience from start to finish!! I will tell everyone I know NEVER to use that place. ThEre are many other outpatient surgery centers that treat you and your family members like you are a person not just a number!! Shame on you Vassar Hospital!

I went to the ER on Wed. 4/8, and was treated for pneumonia by Dr. Ajbani. I was released with rxs. By Fri., 4/10, I had agonizing chest pains. They started at 3am Fri., and when I called an ambulance. The EMT was skeptical, and he relayed the info t the nurse in the ER. So when I got there, I sat there for a good while with no treatment. Fortuitously, Dr. Ajbani was on duty again. He took one look at me and knew that I was very ill. Very quickly, he ordered STAT tests, and had me admitted. Turns out, the pneumonia was septic, and I had formed an abcess. I still credit him for saving my life. I was put on South Circle Seven after admittance, and I cannot stress enough how attentive my care was. I had a couple of aggressive roommates, and I was moved to another room each time. All of the nurses, techs, nutrition staff, respiratory people, radiologists, etc. were amazing. I was treated like a princess. I didnt have to ask for anything, because I already had it. Even though I was deathly ill and in considerable pain, I actually enjoyed myself. No staff member was ever in a bad mood, and their positivity helped me heal. Even the nursing director came to see me every day to make sure that I was being treated as well as I could be. Trust me, I have never been treated so marvelously in my entire life! All of the nurses and techs went above and beyond the call of duty, especially when we had to figure out ways to raise my blood pressure so that I could get my pain meds. They never seemed to be in a hurry, and always took the time for me, even if I just needed to talk or just cry. All in all, I ended up being hospitalized for nearly three weeks, in pain the whole time. But you know, I miss it!! I miss the friendships that I developed with some off the staff, and I miss room service. I especially missed all the special treatment. They all hastened my recovery so: THANK YOU DR. AJBANI IN THE ED, AND ALL OF THE STAFF FROM SOUTH CIRCLE SEVEN!! (and all other supporting staff: respiratory, radiology, lab techs, and most especially nutrition for making sure that I had my magic ice cream and my "milkshake" with every meal.)

I had a very frustrating experience at the Emergency room this week. I showed up after being transferred from my primary Dr for sever stomach pain at 11:45 AM. There were only about 4 other people in the waiting area and I was told it would not be a long wait. Having worked in an emergency room before, I know that other things can happen that are more life threatening and of course they get priority. I ended up waiting a little over an hour to go into a room. Once I was put in a room though, it took 4 hours before I was seen by a Dr. I paged the nurse a few times, and at one point the Dr. popped his head around the curtain and then said oh! Ill be right back, and didnt come back for over an hour. During this whole time I was in pain and was never offered any time of pain meds and noone came to check on me unless i paged them from the remote. Then nurses were pretty nice, and I knew they were super busy and trying to do the best the could, but the response time was often very slow. Once the Dr. finally came in after waiting for 4 hours, he talked to me for about 2 minutes, and said he would be right back again and 40 minutes went by. Then I paged the nurse again, and the Dr. came back and ordered a CT scan. I waited over an hour before I actually got my ct scan. Then 40 minutes later, they said i needed an ultrasound. I waited another hour and then they brought me upstairs for that. Finally after being there for 12 hours i got to go home. The last Dr that saw me came in and said there is a cyst on my left ovary. The cyst is actually on my right ovary. I am glad I found out what was causing my pain, but my overall experience here was awful. God forbid myself or family member ever finds themselves in need of going to the ER I would not chose Vassar because they are too slow. They need more staffing...like i said the nurses were trying their best, but I did over hear more than 1 staff member saying that they never have enough staff while i was being pushed through the hallway on my bed, and that showed. Making someone wait 4 hours to even be seen, when they are there for a reason, is unacceptable.
