I have no idea why I had a phobia of dentists. Its not like I had a bad experience as a child, or some kind of trauma with my mouth that would have caused me to have the kind of irrational fear most people dont take the time to have unless theyve been attacked by a cougar in the woods. And yet...I did. I avoided dentists like the plague. Finally, one fully cracked tooth and a hole in another (I had to have BOTH problems to convince me to go) and a night of pain that rivaled labor had me running to Maricopa Dental. To say that I was frightened is annoyingly inadequate. I doubt a firing squad standing in front of me could have induced the same level of fear. Dr. Huish was suitably impressed by my fear, remarking on my shaking hands and legs, and speaking in a gentle voice while explaining what had to be done. It took many hours that first day to fix the worst of the problems with my teeth. A lifetime of neglect has a tendency to produce a product with...well...what looks like a lifetime of neglect. He was patient, and soothing. He never spoke abrubtly. He never rushed. And when I was done with that first appointment, I was just a little bit healed by the experience. Next visit, I met Karen, the periodontist. Again, the irrational fear, while minimized, still existed and impressed her. Again, I told her of my fears and my appointment healed me of that fear a little more, while bringing my mouth back to health. Ive since seen Dr. Pope and Dr. Mitchell. By the time I had experienced the kindness, patience and efficiency of Dr. Pope, Dr. Mitchell probably could have lopped off my nose by mistake and I wouldnt have been fazed. Of course, he didnt, he was as wonderful as the rest of the entire staff of this office. Im a different person now. My teeth dont hurt anymore. Im proud of my smile. I dont have anxiety about appointments other than - Oh crap. Am I going to get there on time? - I still would choose a candlelight dinner with my husband over a dentist appointment but theyve become a fact of life now, rather than a tragedy. It is with my whole heart and gratitude that I recommend this office, this staff, these dentists. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

I went to Maricopa Family Dentistry on 05/18/2010 for an annual dental cleaning which I was under the impression I was receiving. I had spoken with my insurance provider prior to my appointment to find out what is covered under my insurance and I went in to Maricopa Family Dentistry and requested an annual dental cleaning. I made my co-payment of $37.00 and left under the impression that all was well. On 06/09/2010 I receive a bill from them in the mail for $173.80 so I call to inquire thinking this was a mistake and they inform me that it is because my insurance does not cover a debriment which I never even heard of until that day and most certainly did not even ask for on the day I specifically requested an annual dental cleaning. Needless to say I was very upset about the issue and the receptionist I spoke with on the phone told me that since I was a military member my dental check-ups from the military dentists are not good enough so they had to do a full mouth debriment which is not covered by my insurance provider. I thought that was extremely rude of her to say and I told her i never requested that, she then responded by saying that they had my signature on their forms. I did sign but I do not work in the dental field so I of course was under the impression that I was simply signing forms authorizing them to clean my teeth. The company sent me to collections, and I called the collections agency requesting that the bill be paid in half and i would be more than happy to pay but the dental company refused to come to a compromise. Overall I think this dentistry needs to be out of business the employees lack professionalism and should NEVER EVER charge a patient for a service they did not request just because the dental hygienist feels like it is needed. The other issue I have with them is that I informed the hygienist that I have recessed gums on my two incisors which I have known about for many years, so she got the pick and scraped my right incisor and asked "is this the one" I screamed out in pain. I should have never let them continue cleaning my teeth at that point. ***THEY ARE OUT FOR YOUR MONEY and DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PATIENTS***

I have not been to a dentist in many years. We recently moved to Maricopa and I had a tooth erupt and selected Maricopa Family dentistry and Orthodontics as my dentist of choice as it was close to my new home and they were able to get me in almost immediately. Dr. Polk and has assistant, Taylor, were wonderfully pleasant, informative and truly concerned. From the front office staff to everyone I met they changed my feelings about dentists. Without dental insurance, they did everything they could to let me know up front what procedures would cost and even offered a payment plan. Dr. Polk did exactly what I asked him to do, Im sure against his better judgment, but offered to fix the problem later informing me exactly of the costs. My company provides dental insurance and Ive had it in the past but each time we tried to use it there was always a catch and the office staff and dentists didnt seem to care about me as a patient. No so with this office, Dr. Polk, Taylor and his office staff. They made me feel like I was the most important patient they had that day--and the office was busy--and took the time needed so many others do not. I highly recommend this office for anyone with dental needs. Within 24 hours the office called back to see how I was doing and offered to take my call should anything turn out other than planned. I have a follow up appointment soon and actually look forward to visiting this office again. This is a first for me since my phobia about dentists started as a youngster. I likely will continue with needed procedures recommended simply due to the "customer service" they provided along with the excelent concern and treatment they completed as well. You wont find a better dental office anywhere.

BEWARE OF THIS DENTISTS OFFICE!!! I just separated from the Army and moved into Maricopa about 11 months ago, my wife, our two boys, and I needed our annual checkups and the military isnt covering it anymore so we went to Dr. Pope. Let me first start off by saying this is my first time using insurance because I was in the military before and even earlier than that I was covered by my parents insurance. Anyhow all we asked for was the basic annual cleaning and thats what I specifically stated. So we paid the co-pay and left, about a month passes and we get a bill from Maricopa Family Dentistry for a total of $780. Apparently dentists can just bill you for whatever the heck they want as long as you sign their stupid piece of paper before leaving. To top it all of as we were paying our co-pay the receptionist, who should really be a drug pusher, sold us some mouth washes and special toothpaste. I suppose this was partially our fault for being naive but that is no reason to take advantage of a veteran. My family and I are already struggling as it is because we are both going to school and working part time. $780 may not be a lot to some people but that is for us and they just completely stole us blind it feels like. I really suggest that everyone else save themselves the trouble and go to a different dentists office at this point our only option is to pay the bill because the dental staff is not willing to budge and we dont want to be sent to a collections agency since were trying to buy a house.
