After experiencing horrible service and being ripped off at Emergency Animal Clinic off of Juniper Rd in Gilbert I swore never to ever go there again. When one of my dogs became ill with the same symptoms as his brother a few years back, I knew I couldnt go there and was thankful I had a Magnet Advertising a 24 hr 1st Pet Veterinary Centers in Mesa. I was expecting the same type of treatment and was pleasantly surprised on the great service and care we received. The front personnel took our dog immediately into the back room after taking short information from us to input in the computer. The place was clean, each room I saw had a pony wall with a half wall aquarium, and very comfortable seating. It had an entire welcoming atmosphere. They immediately accessed my dog to make sure not a life & death emergency while waiting for the vet who was taking care of a dog who was hit by a car. When it was our turn and we explained what was going on and our financial status . . . still paying off a $13,000 medical bill three years back on our other dog, asked if they would try to keep cost down for us to only necessity. (The office visit, one x-ray, urine analysis our bill was $256.00). Since now our dog could drip urine, we felt he was now able to empty part of his bladder and not rupture it, we opt to not have a catheter to empty his bladder or surgery until we could see our vet in the morning. They checked to make sure how much he dribbled and made sure we knew if we had any problems, to feel free to bring him back. They also let us know that if he stopped dribbling to no urine at all, it was an emergency and to get care immediately. The whole time we were there, they would come in and make sure he including ourselves were doing fine and even brought us a basket full of snacks and beverages for our wait. In the morning I took my dog to my vet and brought the paper work with me. To my surprise, they had already faxed the information and it was there waiting for us before 7:30 a.m. Their diagnoses was the same as my vets second opinion. Before emergency surgery at the other ER in Gilbert, we had spent over $1,000 for diagnoses for our other dog with the same symptoms (bladder stone blocking urine flow). In our case, 1st Pet Veterinary Center was a total better experience and we were never pressured for any tests or procedures. I felt they cared for our dog and us. They also presented estimates before performing any procedure and took time with us to explain what they were for, cost, and outcome. The only negative and it could be because they were being accommodating to only taking one and perhaps my dog moved, my vets x-ray was sharper quality. The other charges we opt not to have: To empty the bladder would have been $110 for a small dog. The night we were there, they did not have an ultrasound tech and if we needed it for further evaluation for the prostate, they had one at their Chandler office. That cost would have been $125 for the tech and the abdominal ultra sound $339.00. Oh, they are open 24 hours 7 days a week for not only emergencies but for regular pet care service too. Overall I am very satisfied with the care we received and will gladly use them again should we be faced with an after hour emergency again.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!! My wife and I came to this place with a sick dog who was bitten by a scorpion. Arrived at 2pm. 5pm rolled around yes 5pm and we had still not been seen. 3 hours of time if you are a math genius. Not one time did the staff ask if our pet was ok or needed ice or the amount of time left to be seen or any type of update. We left the establishment without being seen. Yes it was that long that we just gave up. What kind place treats your pet like this? 1st Pet in Mesa does!!! Thank you for wasting 3 hours of my weekend with my family and leaving my dog in pain. Way to go guys. The staff is eating snacks, drinking sodas, listening to music and playing solitare while nothing is going on in the front of the house. No supervision means the people will play! The one happy part of this is by the time 3 hours passed our dog was feeling better. We left without being seen or paying a dime. When I told them we were leaving they didnt even know my dogs name or our name. We were the only ones left in the waiting room. Good lord!!! All of our neighbors have the same number for this place and we will be asking our HOA community to remove their business contact immediately. It has already been removed from the other HOA contact list already this morning so Im making progress! What cracks me up about the place is the next day they call and ask for contact info about our regular vet. I need to remind them we werent seen in the first place and we were not seen. Stop making me laugh! If you want to spend half your day here and according to most other reviews an extravagant amount of test fees then this place is for you! The saddest part is people were bringing in their pets to be put asleep and the smiles on the staffs faces after the customers were out of site were painful to see. If you dont care thats fine but respect the family and not snicker behind their back. They are crying. Of course a person is going to cry when they lose a pet. Their website has seven clinicians listed but they must have been on the toilet when we were there. Obviously my review is from an angry perspective. You would be angry too if you saw or experienced this. Save yourself the pain and go to Gilbert Animal Hospital. I sincerely doubt anybody from this business or franchise owner will ever reach out or care about these comments. Just know you affected lives in a negative way and this shouldnt be the goal of your practice.

April 8, 2017 my daughters dog was involved in a brutal dog fight, major life threatening injuries. She took bleeding dog to 1st Pet, Southern, Mesa. I met her there to help calm her as she was covered in blood and dog was on table bleeding out. When I entered the exam room, my daughter was crying hysterically. I heard the Vet Tech state "well, I can ask the doctor to come and talk with you - but if "she" [Doctor] comes into the room, you may be charged an exam fee! She then said that she would be willing to talk to the doctor about the fee if she was only going to talk with us and not do an exam. I asked for privacy so we could make decision about our pets condition. The doctor NEVER came in to meet with us to discuss condition of dog. We ultimately decided to put the dog down. Once we made the decision, within MINUTES a clerk was in our face with a clip board explaining how much we would owe them to euthanize our pet. The only time we saw the doctor is when she came in to administer the LETHAL INJECTION. Staff was ALL ABOUT THE MONEY and displayed NO concern for our situation. I called to discuss my concerns only to get the same Vet Tech on the phone going point counter point with me. I was told the owner was not available as "he doesnt like to practice anymore" and promised the Manager, Dr. Nelson would call me, that never happened either. Absolutely terrible experience, no act of kindness, concern or compassion. To top it off, I pad $600.00 to put dog down and the doctor never met with us or even looked at our poor dying dog. Staff should be ashamed of themselves!
