I have been with Dr. Joann Helmus for 10 years and have received excellent care. She is extremely thorough in her work and knowledgeable. Dr. Helmus takes the time to clearly explain everything, is very personable and although, my exams are a few years apart, she greets you as if you in a friendly manner as if you were her neighbor and remembers details about your interests, work etc. She is a highly skilled Optometrist and Professional, yet caring in her work. Her staff are friendly and skilled and insure that your needs are being met. The Optical Technicians are professional, highly skilled, personable and are experts in selecting eye wear that meet your visual and personal needs. They are also thorough in explaining your benefits and how they apply to your selection of frames and lenses. Over the last fifty five years that I have been wearing eyeglasses I have gone to approximately eight to ten optometrists. I can say without hesitation that Dr. Helmus is by far the best of the best. I have had my eye examination and received eyeglasses from this office for the last twenty years and received 100% satisfaction. I see no reason to go anywhere else. During my most recent visit I concluded that Dr. Mark Helmus has the most complete knowledge of his subject and appears to continually keep in touch with the advances in his specialty. Dr. Mark Helmus answerd all my questions and offered to return if needed. The office staff is always helpful and friendly. I strongly recommend the Helmus + Baker Optometry to anyone looking for eye examination and a new pair of eyeglasses.

Always happy with the courteous, kind, and professional approach at this office. The front desk runs efficiently and it has been easy for me to get refills on contacts or order a pair of glasses when convenient for my schedule. Dr. Mark has fit me in same day on two occasions when my severe eye allergies suddenly kicked in, and provided great care to get the allergies under control. I was also impressed with how quickly glasses were delivered and that when my favorite frame was backordered, the office offered to temporarily put my lenses in the sample pair so I could have something to wear in the meanwhile. Ive been a patient for 7 years, best local optometrists in my opinion.

All you get here is high quality, professional and courteous service. This is such a departure from the "assembly line" approach in other offices and in health care in general that Helmus and Baker deserve special mention. Everyone, ancillary staff and providers alike, are genuinely interested in providing the highest level of service and responsiveness to your needs. The process is seamless....email reminder of next appointment, make appointment on-line, update information on-line, and even get a text to remind/confirm upcoming appointment. This is the way everything should be but seldom is. I cant imagine going anywhere else.

This practice is without a doubt the best experience you will have with an optometrist. I have seen both Dr. Mark Helmus and Dr. Alex Baker, and have been astounded at how pleasant they are. I have a history of bad experiences at doctors offices, but never here. In fact, every time I leave in a better mood than when I come in! The doctors are incredibly friendly and courteous, and the effects can be seen by how happy the staff are to work in the office. Overall, just a wonderful place with great eyecare. I came to the practice off of a recommendation from a friend, and I happily continue the recommendations to others.

I am not calling to question the abilities of the doctors at this office, but I will not be a return customer. The lady Helmus was my doctor and boy was she mean to me. She lectured me for not wearing my contacts everyday, she said harsh words about my handwriting, and she got angry with me when I was having a hard time reading the chart during my exam. I left the office feeling as if I had been a bad kid and I had just left the principals office. That is no way to feel after an eye exam! Sure, the office is fancy, but I would rather be treated nicely than have something pretty to look at.

For over twenty years I have seen Dr. Joann Helmus annually as my optometrist. The very high standard of service and technical knowledge of both doctor and staff has never wavered. Consistently modernizing their examination equipment in providing the most up-to-date exams and accurate prescriptions. Their selection of eyeglass frames is most complete range of style choices. The staff are very knowledgeable of insurance allowances, and discussed with me the many options available. Have many times and will continue recommending this outstanding optometric office to family and friends.

Dr. Mark Helmus has been my optometrist for almost a decade and I have only good things to say about his care. Ive seen his wife only once during this time for an emergency and she was perfectly nice and accommodating. The staff is always nice and perky. The techs are very helpful in picking out glasses. They take their time suggesting different frames and options. The only thing I would like to see is maybe they can offer a section of gently used glasses or exchange program. I like to have different looks but the prices can be a little expensive to get new glasses all the time.

Dr. Mark and Dr. Joanne Helmus have been my familys optometrists since 1997. Im happy to recommend them to anyone needing eye exams, contact lenses and/or eyeglass frames or lenses. Their staff is excellent, including making appointments, handling drop-ins for a quick repair, explaining ones insurance/VSP benefits, and helping select frames and lenses. The office always seems to have the latest materials for lenses and coatings. Orders arrive quickly. The doctors are very professional yet friendly. They listen! I always feel like a valued client when I go there.

My family moved to the Davis area one year ago, so I just completed my second annual eye exam with Dr. Helmus. The things I think are important in an optometry office are 1) easy to get an appointment 2) a friendly, welcoming staff 3) respectful doctor who doesnt rush through your exam and gets to know you 4) contacts that are in stock. This place has it all! They even offered to fix my sunglasses which I didnt purchase at their store.

I have been seeing Dr. Mark Helmus for the past 20 years. He has always been friendly and professional. He makes time to answer my questions and explains the finding of my eye examination. I would recommend everybody to him. I first started seeing him when I went to UC Davis. I have seen moved to Sacramento, and I still make the drive to see him. Its hard to find a doctor that you trust. I highly recommend him.

Everyone of the Doctors here are top notch and very professional, but nice. I have had exams with all of them over the years and they are all exceptional. I have used this practice for my whole family for many years. I have special vision needs and they are the first step in my ocular health, with my yearly exams.
