Hello, This is not so much a review of the hospital overall than it is a commendation of certain NURSES & DOCTORS who went so far above & beyond what I think is the norm. My husband, Dennis Allen Morris, has been in the hospital for the last 2 months. He was in MICU on the 4th floor for 4 weeks & in 4 SW for the second 4 weeks, due to a heart attack, compounded by Hep C & alcohol withdrawal. I cannot say with any veracity that hell be fine when this is all over, but the man should have died---at least when I saw the amount of alcohol (numerous empty bottles hed left laying around) imbibed for 2 weeks while I was out of town visiting my sister. I wont elaborate exactly what the following people did for my husband, but I will say that they all were very kind to me & my son, when we visited each & every day of his stay. Not only were they kind, they answered our questions in terms we could understand easily. One of the Drs, a Dr. Dafne Moretta, went so far as to comfort me when she saw I was feeling especially downhearted, and made sure that I had emotional support as well. One of her bedside visits she asked me if it was all right if shed prayed for Allen. Of course that was OK by me, and right there at his bedside she prayed aloud the most beautiful of prayers, asking God for help with my husband & strength for me & my family. This lasted a full 5 minutes. I cannot begin to tell whoever reads this how much this meant to me. The following is a list of VA personnel who were the most helpful---as far as Im aware, of going above & beyond the call of duty. Dr. Dafne Moretta Dr. David Chooljian, Nurses in MICU (I dont know their last names) NOEMI TEHSEEN, ANNA, CRYSTAL, JIM, JOSH, JAMES, GREG, JOHN NURSES IN 4SW DEBBIE, NATHAN, CURTIS, CHRIS, RITA, ANNABELLE, MELISSA, Im sure there were many more employees that I never saw, or heard their names, who were kind & good to my husband. I just wanted everyone to know just how special these individuals are. My husband caused a great deal of frustration for these people, since he was violent upon admittance, & so confused when he finally regained consciousness. This patient required so much of their patience, they should get some type of reward. Thank you to these people. Sincerely Patricia A. Morris

About me 71-75 U.S. Navy PO2 Seawolf Unit Vietnam, Tex Army National Guard 1978-1990 SFC CH-47 67U 1990-1992 U.S.Army Desert Shield/Storm. Medically retired. I have been going to Jerry L. Pettis VA Hosp Loma Linda, CA since it opened back in the 70s. It use to be the top of line image of what a VA Hosp could and should be. I have seen it go through so many administrative changes over the years a few good, some bad and a whole lot worse at any given time. It is now in the process of updating and remodeling and is at a all time low for customer patient care and service. The patient advocate system they use at Jerry L. Pettis is a huge farce, it is staffed by civilians not veterans that have no real vested interest in listening to valid and invalid complaints. They will take your complaint and file them and nothing ever is followed up on and no punitive punishment handed out to inappropriate behavior by Doctors or Staff. Your complaints are taken and you are never followed up with as to the status or disposition of your complaint. I have had several surgeries at Jerry L Pettis. My knees scoped, three times which was a failure. The third time was because the surgeon forgot to fix the other side of my knee the second time. I had my right foot operated on to correct some service connected damage. The Resident that did the was suppose to have the Podiatry attending watching over her, well I was asleep so I do not who was there, but she butchered my right foot. Now they want me to let them replace my right knee joint. No way there ever operating on me again even if Im dying at the Jerry L Pettis VA Hosp. Ill go to the San Diego Miramar, CA VA Hosp. it is a class act down there compared to Loma Linda VA. If you have complaints about Jerry L. Pettis forward them to the Office of Inspector General if you expect any help with your complaints. Thanks for reading.

I retired to the area and receive my healthcare from Loma Linda and its satellites. It is so bad I am seriously considering packing up and moving out of here. It just amazes me how cruel people can be if they dont have to account to anyone or there is no recourse against them. The VA doctors here fall in that group. They do whatever they want. They do not return phone calls, they let simple forms you may need filled out sit forever and then lose them. So you spend needless months of time frustrating yourself calling, dropping things off. They dont care. I have had appointments cancelled and "no show" put in my record. I have had doctors just make up exams they never conducted. I have had doctors yell and argue with me while sitting there in tears. I am so frustrated and angry I just told my doctor just send me an email every six months and tell me how I am doing. I dont know why you need to see me. Six months of emailing a doctor before responding. A month and three doctors to get a DMV form signed. Now another month of pursuing yet another doctor to sign a benefit form. These are truly simple things. They dont care. Complain all you want, nobody there cares. They only ignore you and frustrate you more. Mind you I am 100% priority one patient, and they put me through this. The grounds are a mess with all the ducks and swans. Not charming at all. They poop all over and may even charge at you. Some rooms in the hospital are filthy. I have been in other VA healthcare systems in other cities and never experienced the problems I have experienced here. The positive is most of the nurses and personnel are pretty decent. It is the doctors that are a mess. The place truly frightens me.

I went to the Loma Linda VA emerg. room with chest pains and shortness of breath. I have had heart problems for some time prior and the VA has taken good care of me. The doctors at the emergency room decided that I needed a by-pass and sent me to Loma Linda University Hospital which is one of the best cardiac hospitals in the world and only three blocks away from L.L.VA. I had to have quadruple heart by-pass. L.L.U.H. was terrific and my recovery was very quick. I cant say enough about the quick and expert care that I received from L.L.V.A. and from L.L.U.H. This event happened 6 years ago. I know that there are problems with the VA system. Not to make excuses but what hospital doesnt have problems, large and small? Four months later I had to go back to L.L.V.A. with a ruptured appendisitis. Again, nothing but professional and quick medical care. Other times Ive had to wait several hours in the emergency room for less than life threatening problems, but that was because the doctors were busy with patients with more "Life threatening problems" such as the ones Ive had. Many people go to the emergency rooms for rediculous reasons which make the waiting time even longer for those patients with legitimate emergencies.
