My brother had open heart surgery the first week of June and from the time I was allowed into the ICU I was blown away by the quality of care that he was receiving. I admit , I came from San Antonio expecting a state of the art NEW hospital with beautiful separate rooms, glass doors, and all things polished. I was afraid that this ol hospital had seen its better days and that I may have to move my brother to a nicer place. I was wrong! The drs. , nurses, all techs from all depts. were exceptional and professional and most of all loving kind and respectful to not only the patient, but the family members who came to visit, but most of all to EACH OTHER. We did a bumps in the road several times as my bro took one step forward and three steps back so many times we thought we were going to lose him. Oh did I mention I would camp out until they asked me to leave for shift change. I was sure if my bro woke up and I wasnt there he may become upset. Yup , the nurses took it all in stride, or maybe they bit their tongues. The biggest problem I had was with a general surgeon who installed a feeding tube BACKWARDS AND HIT AN ARTERY IN HIS STOMACH AND CAUSED HIM TO BE IN MUCH PAIN WITH A SERIOUS INFECTION AND A REALLY FAIR AMOUNT OF BLOOD LOSS. Please make sure that you have your surgeon do these extra added on procedures or one that he personally recommends. We almost lost him , we had to have other family members come in from out-of-state for this drs. stupidity. I was the one to mention this to the heart dr. to check a trach and feeding tube as someone needed to actually look at it. Oh did I mention I take care of children with these special medical needs 12hrs. a day also. The nurses on this 3 day time were the lazy ones over the weekend that did not want to mess with cleaning and changing the dressings. I didnt think I had to personally view these surgeries but when I asked to , the dr. was appalled at what he saw and smelled. Please be sure to ask questions and I am sure you will for the overall really be quite satisfied with the care they receive. Watch the weekend help they are mostly contracted out and really do not want to there, they should stay home.

Went to the er for a wrist injury. Started off the visit by being rudely told about one mistake on my paperwork and having my id/form of insurance shoved back at me even though he needed it. The only reasonably nice experience i had was with the female nurse who did my paperwork. The nurse who took me back to the er was extremely rude and basically told me I should walk it off and then told someone else that he didnt want to order my xray but to go ahead and do it because "if they come in like that" (whatever that means) they have to. The doctor who saw me also basically said nothing was wrong despite how much pain I was in but ordered the xray. After the xray he said I needed a splint but it was pretty obvious he didnt even wanna give me that. And then I was actually discharged without getting my splint so I had to go back in and request it. Also worth noting that when I was getting the xray they didnt even take pictures of where I was in pain/having issues. It was just a general arm xray even though I plainly said wrist several times. Sadly I wasnt the only one in there with a need for an xray. When I was waiting they were telling one of the other people there for one that since they could put a little weight on their foot that they didnt need an xray and to just take it easy for a week. Other than an elderly lady with hip pain i was the only other person who got an xray at that time. Ive never been to a hospital that wont listen to patients or even treat them with basic respect. Had I gone to any other hospital they wouldve done a thorough job and made sure that nothing was wrong. Im not entirely confident they gave me an accurate diagnosis but Im too pissed to deal with anymore hospitals right now. Im sad about it because the last two times Ive had to go here it was great and they did their jobs like theyre supposed to but this time couldnt even be bothered.

I usually have good service at this hospital, but not with one particular doctor. Doctor Allison Haders has to be one of the worst doctors I have ever encountered in my life. My first encounter with her was when I had a cough for 3 weeks and went into the E.R. and, doctor Haders diagnosed me with a mild flare up of asthma, but I still contintued to cough after that visit. Went to different hospital a couple days later, and low and behold I had bronchitis. Encounter #2 with Haders, I had been vomitting with stomach bug for 3 days, unable to eat, went back to E.R, where Haders could not stop my vomitting, even with meds. Told her I still felt sick, and continued to throw up while being discharged. Went home, and continued to throw up the next day. Had to go to Scripps and they stopped my vommiting immediately with proper meds, and finally got better and was able to go home without vomitting.I had gone back to Alvarado, for fluid in my ears, and asked the nurses if Dr. Haders was on the clock, and they said no, so I stayed. There has been two times I had gone to Alvardo E.R and was informed Dr. Haders was on duty, and immediately left to another hospital. Then, tonight I was is so much pain with a rotted tooth (forgot to ask if Haders was there) to my dismay, I found out later she was. Told me I needed I didnt need antibiotics, and sent me home with Tylenol Codeine. I just came to Scripps, who informed indeed my tooth is rotted and in need of antibiotics until I can get to see the dentist. At the end of the day, I will always go to Alvarado E.R. because I have recieved adequate care, but not if Dr. Haders is on the clock. She is possibly the worst doctor that has ever treated me. Please be aware of this doctor.

If I could give no stars, I would most definitely. How and why on Gods beautiful green earth would you treat someone like crap especially someone who is there obviously because they dont feel good and something is wrong? Your a hospital, your there to help. If you cant be professional and have some respect then maybe you shouldnt have the job. I should have told myself, "No, dont go there. They have awful reviews". But I took the chance anyways and with it being my first time EVER here and any hospital of that matter in California, you can count me out of ever going back to Alvarado. I walked in and tissues and wrappers were laying on the floor like they dont have housekeeping. The people in the check in room were just conversating and didnt care who you were or how your feeling, they just turn their backs on you like your nothing. Then they call me back, she starts asking me questions and every time I begin to speak, shed cut me off and be like, "Oh, but this didnt happen"! Or "So, why are you here"? Like really? Am I not allowed in a hospital? Im sorry your in America. I do what I want. Ughhh watch and see if I dont contact the health department and everyone else possible on these people. Needless to say, I WALKED OUT and let her know that she needed to gain respect. I cant believe people like that have customer service jobs and get paid to do it but they cant treat the public with respect.....A HOSPITAL OF ALL PLACES!!!! No wonder yall only have a 2 star rating. This absolutely amazes me. Id hate to find out how they treat patients who are on their last breath.
