absurd wait times. dont believe their lies!!! called in and asked about the wait time and was told i would be in and out in 45min. i asked if they took appointments and they said no (which turned out to be a lie). all i needed was a specific prescription medicine for a chronic post-allergy cough and since i was on vacation in sf, i couldnt make an appointment with my regular doctor back home. i didnt even need a physical exam or any on-site treatment! long story short, i was in the waiting room for 7 hours and watched everyone in the waiting room get called in before me -- even people who arrived hours after i did. some people were told they could leave and would get a phone call when they were up. i assumed they didnt tell me that because i would be up soon. i asked the front desk lady at the 2, 4, and 5-hour mark approximately how much longer it would be and she kept saying i was up next. except other people kept getting called in and the people who left even came back after getting their return phone calls. maybe these people had appointments? who knows. finally, 30 min before the urgent care closed, i was called back to a room where a nurse spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to use a blood pressure cuff on me. he took my temp too and asked why i was here. i was coughing so hard i could barely reply. i would have skipped this whole ordeal and sucked it up except my cough was so bad i couldnt be in public. i would hack so hard it would look like i was bawling and there were times i coughed to the point of throwing up. people around me probably thought i was dying of TB... anyway, so after i told him i was here for my cough (which was already in my paperwork that i had filled out 6 hours ago), he said he would review my forms and enter them into the computer. i proceeded to wait 1 more hour in the exam room. a doctor came in 30 minutes in, said some random name, and upon seeing my confused expression, realized he was in the wrong room. finally, my doctor came in. he was an 76 year old asian obgyn who self-reported that he was basically too senile to practice, which is why he is now working here. awesome. he told me that all the doctors working there were either ones who couldnt get a job in their specialty or who were burnt out and pretty much retired. once he found out i was a med student, he proceeded to give me all sorts of life advice about where i should practice and told me more than i needed to know about his kids and some partner he had who moved to santa barbara... (note: ALL i needed out of this entire visit was a prescription that would take 5-10 seconds to write.) finally, after listening to my lungs for 3 seconds (the extent of his physical exam), he was about to write my prescription, but i asked for the particular cough medicine i was looking for -- the only one that had worked for me in the past. he said he had never heard of this medicine so i had to pull out my epocrates app, show it to him, and wait as he copied the name letter by letter. he said he would give me a 2-week supply since i was still traveling for the holidays and wouldnt be home for awhile, but when i checked the prescription, it was only enough for 8 days. i pointed it out to the nurse, who asked the doctor to change it, but he refused. i explained to her that i was traveling and wouldnt have time to visit another urgent care so she asked the doctor again. he then checked the box for 1 refill and i left with the precious piece of paper that i had to wait 8 hours to get. well i later found out at the pharmacy that by law, my prescription couldnt be refilled because it contained hydrocodone... so basically his little checkmark for 1 refill was useless. the only reason i came here was because i pretty much had no choice due to out-of-state insurance coverage. my husband and i wasted an entire day of my vacation in SF here. :/ if you have any other option, stay away!

Im traveling for work and became ill (It turned out to be pneumonia). I went to the closest immediate care facility I could find which happened to be Concentra on California St. When I went inside, I was concerned about how busy they were. Ive had far less busy primary family doctors that have rushed me out the door. Also, I had a long wait time before I could see a doctor. They thought it might be two hours before I could get in and out, but thats hardly their fault. They were well staffed and seemed to work fast. The man who treated me was a nurse practitioner (last name Lee). He was fantastic. He genuinely seemed to care about everything I was saying. When he thought it might be a good idea to do a chest x-ray and a breathing treatment, there was zero pressure. He made sure I was completely comfortable with anything he was suggesting and made it very clear it was my choice. Ive had many doctors in the past do these things without asking or by putting a lot of pressure on me which always makes me think they just want to bill my insurance for as much as they can. Not Mr. Lee! Also, the rest of the staff that I interacted with at the front desks and the girl/nurse who brought me to see the Dr. were very polite and helpful. The same goes for the guy who brought me to do my chest x-ray. I wish I could have gotten everyones name so I could call them out here, but they were all great. If bedside manner is important to you and you want someone to really listen to how youre feeling, I highly recommend going to Concentra and requesting Mr. Lee. I really hope the next time I fall ill it happens in San Francisco.

Im not sure why their ratings are so low. I had a great experience (considering you only go there for medical problems). I fell hard on my hand and went to get it checked the next day, instead of going to ER. It was a Saturday, so the place was not very busy (its much more busy Mon-Fri). It took about an hour total to fill the paperwork, check my vitals, take an X-Ray, get a doctor to look at them (with a diagnostic that was confirmed by a specialist afterward), and get a wrist-guard. I have good insurance coverage, so it was cheap, much cheaper than going to ER, for sure. The staff was super friendly and looked happy. The facility is really nice, with some good equipment. I had no problem getting a copy of the X-Rays on a CD. Would I come back there if I have another non-emergency problem? Absolutely.

I was there at 10 AM for a walk-in and they had an estimate of a 40 minute wait. I didnt get into a room until 2:00 and didnt get done with my appointment until 3:00. The doctor seemed fine but the supporting staff didnt seem to know what they were doing and never informed me there was a delay. I finally got a bill a few weeks later from Concentra and found that they spelled my name wrong and didnt enter my insurance information. I called and had it straightened out only to find they dont have a way to pay online. Would not recommend this or go back.
