I work in the customer service industry, so I understand how it goes, and while my standards may be generally high, it also takes a lot for me to write a bad review. I went to Akal because of all the good service reviews on Google, but that wasnt my experience at all. The staff at the counter was incredibly rude: to me upon arrival, to another customer who was waiting to have payments and things wrapped up so she could leave, and even rude to each other. Furthermore, I had only adopted this pet a few months back, and when they determined her situation was pretty dire (which Id come to believe myself - hence the visit) before I got information or assistance from the vet I was first bombarded with tons of judgement from her - as though I should have somehow magically intuited the whole situation without a history of experience with this particular critter and her habits/behaviors. To add insult to injury I had a friend come along as additional support in case it really was bad news, and after introducing ourselves and specifying our roles (me as mom, and him as "uncle") the vet proceeded to talk to him practically the whole way through, even though I was the one making the decisions and spending the $2k+ with still only a whisper of a hope of even bringing this kitty home alive. Admittedly, maybe they just had a really bad day there - or maybe I was just unlucky, but in spite of the good reviews and convenient location that initially attracted me to them, I certainly wont be going back there. My concern is: if they cant be considerate, compassionate, caring, sympathetic and supportive in the most dire/ heart-wrenching situations, how helpful are they likely to be in those with less on the line? 2 stars for convenient location, for a correct diagnoses, and for making my decision to go elsewhere the easiest decision Ive had to make this week.

If you had to choose between a Veterinarian that loved your pet or one that had extensive knowledge and experience, which would you choose? We didn’t have to choose because in 1994 we were so fortunate to find the AKAL Animal Hospital & Dr. Baljit S. Chahal, DVM. Over the past 13+ years the Dr. and his incredible staff have saved the life of our dogs several times. I am extremely protective of the critters in our family as is my husband. I can also be hyper reactive when I’m seriously worried. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate Dr. Chahal’s ability to help me make rational decisions in times of crisis by providing medical facts with true compassion. He has helped us avoid many unnecessary procedures and tests and in doing this, saved our pets’ unnecessary trauma. When required procedures were necessary, Dr Chahal made sure we fully understood the situation by teaching us. We would never settle for less for our pets. Dr Chahal & staff provide the best in physical and emotional care. He also has an incredible network of specialist that work closely with AKAL and their patients. I have a hundred stories of kindness, emergency responsiveness, extensive medical knowledge, compassion and care. Unfortunately, I can not write the book during this review. I love animals; I write this review for them and wish you and the beloved critters in your care the very best.

This is a fantastic veterinarian office. I dont use one particular doctor because I have had great experiences with all of them. At the previous vet we took our pups to my husband and I felt that they sometimes would try to talk us in to paying for unnecessary things. I have never felt that way at San Jose Animal Hospital. All you get here is an A+ staff that love what they do. They are always professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. Plus I really appreciate the advice they gave me when I brought my new cat in for her first visit. Ive never had to personally care for a cat before so their tips really helped me feel more confident about taking care of my new furball. PS both my dogs and my cat love the staff. They know animal lovers when they see them :)

Dont take your pet here in emergency situations, they dont know the word of emergency, the guy who answered my call is not accommodating, I called today 07/11/2017 and begging them to make a schedule for my very lethargic pet and my pet doesnt want to eat I ask them to schedule me the soonest time for the following day because I am so worried about my pet and I told them I want in the morning and the guy give me a very late time schedule at 4:00pm, I dont recommend this vet clinic/hospital at all

A huge "THANK YOU!" To Alvina and to Dr. Tao !!! Your professionalism and the amount of compassion has left our family speechless!!! Our teacup poodle couldnt have been in better hands!!! We are forever grateful. We thank all the staff at the San Jose Animal Hospital for helping Stellie and our family pull through this tough time. We will be bringing our pets here from now on! For superb care for your pets I definitely recommend San Jose Animal Hospital to everyone in the Bay Area!!

I took my dog here on Sunday, mostly because they were the closest place open on a Sunday with good reviews. Im so glad that I did. All of the staff were so kind and helpful, and they took such great care of my little dog. She had bladder stones as it turned out, and they got her into surgery right then. I am so appreciative of everything they did for her, I will definitely be using them as our regular vet moving forward

The staff here is wonderful. The office is clean and organized. Everyone was very helpful, prompt and understanding. I am so happy to have found this place. Thanks to all who work there for your help and patience. Thanks to Dr Tao for taking such good care of my little girl. She is doing great.

Obviously animal lovers and the service is good - they always find a way to fit us in, whether its last-minute or ongoing appointments. The doctor there also called me and spent a solid half-hour talking with me and answering questions about an issue my dog was having. They go above and beyond.

Everything was great.The front office lady was a great help and gave me a lot of information to help out my tough situation. Needless to say everything worked out for the best and things are back to normal!

Dr. Doty is the best. He makes sure I understand my options and fees before moving forward. Staff very friendly and helpful. Sometimes they get busy, but thats because they run a successful business.

Such a family environment... I really feel safe taking my pets to Akal. The doctors and staff did a great job on Blondie in addition to saving her life. And the compassion they showed was remarkable.

Doctor Doty is very patient and knowledgeable. But I dont like them taking the pets to the back and do blood work or taking some samples. I prefer them doing where I can see and hold my pets.

I hope they took care of the kitten that I had to drop off, it was homeless and no mother so my friend saved it and my man and I took it to the animal hospital to make a full recovery hopefully
