I recently was admitted for acute appendicitis and had appendectomy done. Surgeons and nurses were so kind and did their best to make me feel comfortable and ease the pain that I had before the surgery. They were really nurturing and kept reminding me that Im in good hands, despite my anxiety attacks. The surgery was successful with minimal scars. The only reason I took off one star was because of the RN I had after the surgery during recovery. Karin K, my RN, answered every single question that I and my friend asked with "I dont know" and when we asked for someone who CAN answer our questions, she said "Ummm you know, I dont know anyone that works right now who can answer your question". Our question was simply was whether the prescriptions were faxed to the pharmacy so we can just pick it up or if we have to take in the prescriptions ourselves physically to the pharmacy and wait for it to be filled out, because by the time I got discharged it was less than an hour away before the pharmacy closed. Then she kept on saying how she never discharged a patient before, especially to the dorms. I was not only shocked but offended that she assumed that I lived in the dorms just because I go to college. From a perspective of a nurse, what does dorms have to do anything with her job of discharging a patient? What difference does it make when it comes to discharging a patient? Then she said usually moms are here to take care "stuff like that" but isnt it a job of a nurse to tell me whether it was faxed or not? Not to mention she said she was not on top of her things and was so behind doing rounds that my discharging process got extremely delayed and all I wanted to do was just go home and rest as I was still suffering from post-surgery pain and loopy from drugs. She was extremely unprofessional, unorganized, and offensive. She obviously did not know how to do her job. I really hope another patient does not suffer the panic, frustration that I went through with Karin K.

I am extremely disappointed in their billing department. They will not call your insurance company when trying to get payment. My insurance company had sent over payment through VPay via a fax for credit card payment. The hospital would not respond to my insurance company saying they would not accept payment that way. They kept mailing everything to me. When I called the hospital, the contact there insisted I call my insurance company to communicate that the hospital would not accept a credit card payment. I challenged her and asked: why could they not call, why does the patience need to the middle man? The patient is not knowledgeable with all of this payment information. The hospital needs to step up and contact the insurance company themsleves. I was also told that my insurance company was told that no credit card payments are accepted back at the first of the year (2015). I am sorry, I was patient in August 2015, not a patient early 2015. I am confident my insurance company did not get this communication and justifying that this communication would be sufficient notification is unheard of. It would be like a doctor sending out a communication in January to its patients saying they he can no longer prescribed certain prescriptions and then come August when the doctor has a new patient, expect that patient to have knowledge that of such communication in January. It blows my mind that this is a rational justification for such poor communication. In fact, when I called my insurance company about this, they were applauded for me that the hospital could not take accountability to communicate with the insurance company direction. Poor customer service, the worst I have ever had in this sector. I will avoid all hospitals associated with Littleton and Porter Hospitals.

We had placed my Dad in an Alzheimer facility on Aug 29th and within the 1st 8 hours they let him elope. After 2 hours in the rain we were able to find my Dad and get him back home but he couldnt stay there alone. We called the paramedics and had him admitted to Porter ER. The ER Dr had NO sympathy and said he couldnt help because my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers. At least he got him on medication to calm him down. Jen Regan , the ER case worker got involved and WOW, what a caring, kind, compassionate person. She worked tirelessly calling Memory Care Units and was constantly communicating with me on her progress. Between Jen and Birgit at Willowbrook they had someone out to evaluate my Dad and with in 24 hours we were able to get him into a safe environment. Jen even helped arrange transportation for my Dad to Willowbrook to take that burden off of me. My Dad is now on the correct medication and is thriving and happier than I have seen him in awhile. Jen Regan was pivotal in getting my Dad the attention he needed to keep not only him but my Mom and I safe until we found a solution. If it wasnt for the kindness of Jen Regan and the effort she put into what we saw as a dire situation I dont know where we would be today. So many people dont care, they say they care but they dont and I want to make sure that people know there are truly people out there that do care and make a difference. Alzheimers is a horrible disease and because of people like Jen Regan who go the extra mile for families like us it helps me keep the faith in this crazy world we live in. I cant thank Jen Regan enough for helping us, we will forever be grateful. Porter Hospital is lucky to have an employee like Jen Regan. Respectfully, Lonnie Lilja

Although the Ortho floor nurses were very good the rehab left a lot to be desired. My husband went in for spinal fusion (stenosis) went to the Rehab floor for two weeks and then was "kicked" out because he did not reach their "benchmarks" for improvement. They hated I asked questions, left his catheter in, (which by the time he had left had been straight cathed continually till kick out time. I kept asking why he was so swollen in belly, why is his back leaking so much. Their pat answers were it will go away, its normal. Well it wasnt normal. He ended up coming home for 2 days and rushed back to emergency only to find out he had psudonomas in the back wound. Although this bacteria lives on peoples skin the surgeon said, maybe if they had covered the 15" wound before making him get in the bathtub he wouldnt have gotten it. Had to have surgery and revision done on the surgery site. the rehab floor is filthy, I changed the bedding, picked up trash off floor and wiped up all the urine spills from catheter bag. They would never give ME information as I was not the patient even tho wed signed papers for HIPAA stating I was his wife and caretaker and could have information. Finallly got him home again, for 3 days when I had to call an ambulance. I knew he was dieing. Had him taken to St Anthonys hospital Turns out all that fluid in his belly was from a hole in this lower stomach and upper intestine. His belly cavity had been filling up with poop, food etc for God knows how long. Had to undergo surgery AGAIN. After a two month hospital stay he is finally coming home tomorrow.
