Unbelievably awful. I want to start out by saying I checked into this hospitals ER on Tuesday morning. The front desk clerk (didnt get his name) was awesome. Treated me right, and so did the nurses and doctors as I was moved into the ER. I came in with severe stomach pains, and diarrhea (and they even put me in a room with a bathroom so I didnt have to wander the halls). Unfortunately the visit ended with, "Seems flu related" and I was left with little options. I was released and went home. On Friday morning I went back with pain that was even worse. I had a second CT scan and they werent able to figure out what was wrong. This go around I had a bitchy doctor that treated me horribly and was more interested with tossing me back out than helping me. Had me wondering if they dont get some sort of bonus for clearing their beds faster. As I was leaving I noticed a severe rash (hives) on my hips and groin, and going up my right arm. I showed her and she gave me a single benadryl pill. She wrote it off as a reaction to the meds (the same I got the last time I was there on Tuesday and did have this problem). An hour later I was back. My face, arms, legs, chest, and rest of my body was swollen and I was having trouble breathing when I was at home (to which I also threw up for the first time). I rushed back there and got the same doctor. She asked me if I took the pill and I said yes. She asked me again. Again, again, again, finally I said "YES I took the pill dont treat me like a child. I said I took the pill". Needless to say she didnt like me raising my voice at her, but then I didnt like being treated like a moron. Her excuse was that she wanted to make sure she didnt overdose me. Which in reality she didnt believe I took it (although I had less than 30 minutes after leaving the ER). She also asked if I had anxiety believing I was working myself up for nothing (though it was pretty obvious I had a reaction going on). So enters the nurses who proceed to stick me multiple times and "not find a vein" (though no one else had this problem either of the two times I was there). One blew a vein in my wist so bad it swelled up like a ping pong ball trying to escape. Im venturing to bet they wanted to poke at me (literally) as a means for getting back at me for yelling at their doctor. At this point I walked out. I wasnt going to be talked down to, mistreated, and used as a pin cushion. They obviously need to check their staff and fire some of those people to start with that doctor. It was so unbelievable how the staff was on one extreme one day, and the other the next. Needless to say I went home with a new prescription (from the second visit) and wont EVER go to that hospital again. As extreme as it sounds, I would rather die than go there again. I give them two stars only because of the staff I first dealt with who treated me like a real human being and had genuine concerns for my health. I live very close to this hospital and wouldnt recommend it to anyone. BEWARE if you go here. I give the warning only once. I shouldnt have gone there the second time let alone third, but my doctors office was closed.

Preface: the nice woman knitting up front was a complete sweetheart and very nice when I apologized for coming in as it wasnt an emergency, but I couldnt find a care clinic open. Im giving 2 stars because I could tell the intentions of my doctor and nurse were sincere. However, the whole situation was rather humiliating. I went in for the bug thats going around (vomiting and diarrhea). Vince was my nurse and quite kind, but also very suggestive. Their empty halls echoed and I heard the doc and nurse say, "She ran out of pain meds". Boom, pigeon holed. I have a history of being prescribed pain meds for my four years issues with Endometriosis. I rated my pain at 5/10 because Ive given birth and had multiple laparoscopic surgeries. Vince kept commenting on my bagged eyes (I do have dark circles-theyre genetic, my Autistic 7 year old that Im singly raising has them, also). I was given saline, meds for nausea (which have helped so much-thank you). When I asked if codeine syrup was a possibility (as it was given to my kiddo who got me sick). I didnt have the cough she did, so not necessary they said and I understood. Then the charades began. It was insinuated as a server that I was in an environment full of alcohol and drugs. (I work at an old peoples diner as a server. I literally hang out with the coolest 70+ yrs. people every day). I dont drink (too busy being a single mother) and the only drugs I take are the ones occasionally prescribed from doctors. I literally dont even smoke pot. I am getting a hysterectomy and taking vaginal PT soon because pills are not the answer to Endo. Although they do help when I cant stand therefore go to work to make money to feed my daughter. (Modern medicine has its upsides). It was also suggested that I should get a second opinion on my upcoming hysterectomy when they found out I was 27. No thank you for your opinion on my ovaries. I could tell they genuinely just thought I was seeking and didnt get upset, although I felt very embarrassed, when Vince kept holding my hands to obviously see if had the shakes. I let him. He was trying to do his job. A "nurses touch" he called it. That aside, which isnt the experience I expect others to have, it was clean. I was cared for promptly and I promised I would mention "all the male staff for you ladies". Im a woman of my word. Anyhow, thanks for the doctors note and anti nausea. I appreciated getting seen so quickly, but I wont be returning. Please dont pigeon hole your clients because of their health history. It doesnt make them feel respected or seen as people.

I drove myself to the ER on a Sunday evening after having slipped on ice. I was unable to put any weight on my foot so I called in and they readily brought a wheelchair out to assist me into the ER. I was taken to a room promptly and the staff I dealt with were all friendly an concerned. I had fractured my ankle with a dislocation which was fairly obvious as soon as they looked at it but they took x-rays to confirm. They attempted a reduction of the fracture twice without much success. I was told that I would definitely require surgery and they offered to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon however I would not be able to see one until the following day (Monday). Since I live in Summit County and we have excellent orthopedic doctors due partially to the number of ski accidents, I elected to consult with a local Summit County doctor instead. I was discharged with the caution that my joint was extremely unstable and that I should take extreme care until I could see a local doctor. When I was evaluated in Summit County on Monday I was told that a fracture and dislocation such as mine should have been operated on immediately, not waiting until the next day. There was concern that due to the delay, a satisfactory surgery may not be possible and I might have to have a temporary solution followed by additional surgery after the swelling had subsided. I did have surgery the same day followed by 2 days in the hospital. At my follow-up appointment, I was able to view x-rays from when I arrived in Summit County plus after surgery x-rays. I was frankly appalled that the Swedish ER discharged me without having the surgery performed even if this would have required transferring me to the main Swedish facility. When I actually looked at the discharge notes from that ER visit, I found the statement: "Some ankle fractures require immediate surgery. Your fracture is stable enough for you to go home. You will need to follow up with a referral doctor." This seems contradictory to the verbal instructions I was given concerning how unstable the joint was as I left. Bottom line, this facility seems to be more of an Urgent Care facility than an ER yet charges ER rates. Had it been a true ER and provided surgery immediately, I would likely have been admitted which would have resulted in my ER copay being waived. Dont bother if you truly need full ER services!!
