** THIS REVIEW IS NOT INTENDED TO ASSESS ANY VETERINARIAN AT QHAC BUT DR BRUCE BOWMAN. ** Dr Bowman is DA BOMB! I love this practice and couldnt be happier with Dr Bowman - he is truly like a breathing encyclopedia. I cant believe everything he knows, and remembers, about dogs. He surprises me with interesting knowledge every time we are in there. My dogs are my babies - especially my teacup Chihuahua. I would not trust their care to just anyone - in fact, we changed over to this practice from several years at Banfied (inside PetSmart). I liked the vets at Banfield, but I grew tired of always seeing a different vet and feeling like we were just dollar signs. (Although we had the highest monthly package possible, we never - NOT ONE SINGLE TIME - left without having to pay additional charges for *some* thing not covered by the plan.) Anyway...that has not been our experience with Dr Bowman. I dont feel weve ever been asked to purchase a product or treatment that wasnt necessary and beneficial to the animal. If there is a cheaper (or easier) method that provides the same results, Dr Bowman is AWESOME at letting you know that. He is exceptionally patient and will kindly go over instructions until you understand, and are comfortable with the plan. His office will also go above and beyond to work with you if you face a large, unexpected expense. Anyone with a furry family member knows that a sudden humongous vet bill means there is something concerning going on with the animal. That situation obviously causes a great deal of stress for the human - you are already worried about your pets health, being presented with a big bill - especially if you cant pay it - makes the whole situation worse. Since Quebec Highlands Animal Clinic treats my pet like they are one of their own - and me like Im a part of their family - my overall stress level regarding serious healthcare issues that may face one of my animals, is lowered tremendously. I find a lot of peace in the knowledge that IF something happens, the vet who has taken the time (and made the effort) to get to know my animal - and my family - is going to be the same vet who cares for my pet. I know I can trust this office to assist ALL of us (the four-legged and two-legged members of my family), in whatever way we need it (excellent veterinary care, discussing potential medical issues until I understand, patiently listening to me, helping to make payment arrangements, etc). The security of that feeling is priceless - and doesnt evolve with most providers. I am grateful to everyone at QHAC for working hard to build that sort of relationship with their patients, and their caregivers. That trust isnt built overnight - it is only after repeated excellence that this strong, trusting bond can form - then flourish. That is exactly what I have witnessed and experienced with everyone at QHAC. Dr Bowman surgically corrected my dogs back legs and a hernia last spring. (She had pretty significant patella luxation.) He did a magnificent job and took amazing care of her - I was impressed. He is the vet we will stick with. He threatens to retire - but Im pretty sure a riot would break out if he actually did. ;) HOWEVER, even with all of the praise I sing about Dr Bowman and his staff, sadly I do not feel the same about the other vets at the practice. I dont know if its that Dr Bowman is the primary vet weve always seen, if the other docs are just not up to the same level he is at, or what...but I STRONGLY prefer Dr B. On the few occasions Dr B has not been in the office and Ive had to deal with the other vets, I frankly have not been impressed. Please understand that 98% of my interaction with QHAC has been with the staff and Dr Bowman himself. The office staff is fantastic and remains the same no matter which vet you work with, but my experience lies solely with Dr Bowman. (That has been on purpose, but I dont know enough about the other vets to provide a comprehensive and fair review.)

The only reason Im willing to give this clinic two stars is because of how wonderful Dr. Bowman is with our dog. He is knowledgeable and calm, and he doesnt force me to purchase unnecessary scans or tests. However, the last time I took my 1 year old dog in to the clinic, I did not get to see Dr. Bowman. Instead, I got to see one of the other veterinarians who is obviously terrified of dogs. When my dog acted timid and scared, she decided to leap into action, slamming him to the ground, and tying a zip-tie like leash around his neck and muzzling him. Now, he is a rotty-german shepherd mix, so many people are scared of him. But, he has NEVER been muzzled before, and hes a rescue so he was terrified. During this whole traumatizing appointment, my dog kept whining and wincing, and it turned out that while this vet was wrestling my puppy to the ground, she ran his front leg into a chair and he was bleeding. He limped out to the car after the appointment and continued to limp until I finally found the wound and wrapped it... This was a week ago and the scab is still there. I should also mention that she sold me a bunch of ridiculously expensive shots and medications insisting that I needed them. The appointment which was originally for a rabies shot, ended up costing me over three hundred dollars, and that was only after I refused to give my puppy a full body scan to check his "hip displacement". I will never return here again because of my experience. They told me to arrive 15 minutes early, and I ended up waiting 45 minutes just to have my dog seriously injured and traumatized. He now whines every time we are on Quebec.

Although they seemed knowledgeable, I felt they were quite rough with my kitten and after I told them I would be taking her to Dumb Friends League for vaccinations, I could hear them outside the examination room snickering and judging me. They also tried to sell me medications and shots that I wasnt entirely sure were needed but being a fairly new cat owner I bought them to be cautious. Not sure I will be returning here. Another side note, as far as guest service is concerned I feel they werent very friendly or welcoming. And when I asked the price of something they were selling, nobody could tell me. One girl attempted to look it up and said shed let me know when she figured it out but she never did.

If youre looking for an excellent vet, go here! These guys are great, they are well educated (go Rams!) and they know what they are doing. They take our concerns seriously and really try and help get our pups in good health. My parents go here, my sister goes here, I go here... and I recommend this place to anyone. They tend to recommend a lot of Rx, IMHO (obviously Im not a vet), but Ive definitely been prescribed the same thing twice (when I already had some @ home). So just make sure you know what Rx youre getting and why.

My furry friends have been seeing Dr Bowman and Dr Clow for over 15 years. LOVE THEM! The Techs and the administrative staff are amazing too! I recommend them to anyone with cats and/or dogs. They know what they are doing and dont try to sell you anything your pet doesnt need. The Emergency Animal Hospital is located about 2 minutes away from their clinic - very convenient. Just do it! Dr Bowman and Dr Clow will take very good care of your pets and Im very picky who I go to.
