When my 13 year old German shepherd collapsed at 9 oclock at night, I panicked. My regular vet closed at 6:00, I was home alone, and I had no idea what to do. After reading some of the reviews online, I was afraid to come here. But other emergency vets also had a mix of great and horrible reviews. I think thats just the nature of the business. When someone is already emotionally distraught over the potential loss of their pet, Im guessing its not always easy to make them happy. Luckily, a friend of mine could not recommend this place highly enough, so I wrestled my dog into the car and drove here as fast as I could. First, I would like to say that Brian at the front desk was incredibly kind. He immediately put me at ease and offered to get a gurney to help me get my dog inside. Did I have to fill out paperwork? Yes. But I would have had to do the same in any ER in town if I was the one getting treatment. And it wasnt much. My name, contact information, the dogs name and age, and the standard disclaimer that I would pay for treatment received. Again, exactly what I would have had to do had I gone to the ER for myself or a family member. What I loved most about Brian was that he seemed generally concerned about my dog and her issue, and that he took time from his duties to love on my fur-baby and make her feel comfortable. She wasnt just his job that night, she was a patient in distress and he went out of his way to make her--and me--feel comfortable and cared for. Our vet for the evening, Dr. Han, was spectacular. She was compassionate and sweet. She answered all my questions, and she offered me several diagnostic and treatment options, from very inexpensive to very expensive, telling me only that she wanted me to have all the options on the table. However, when I chose the less expensive options in almost every case, she never made me feel like I wasnt caring for my pet in the best way possible. Instead, she totally validated and supported every one of my decisions, helping me to feel good about myself and comfortable in my choices. Worried that I was going to have to mortgage the house to get out the door, I asked what everything would cost, and was told that Brian would bring me a list of costs to help me make my final decisions. When I saw the cost, I was shocked. I had been there for almost two hours, and the cost of my final choices would be $250. I had expected to pay more just to walk in the door for an emergency visit. My dog was treated that night and seemed better almost immediately. In addition, the treatments they sent her home with have made her feel so much better that I just cannot get over her improvement. Shes now comfortable, pain free, walking under her own power, and wagging her tail again. Not only would I highly recommend the dedicated and knowledgeable staff at this facility, but I would take my girl here again in a heartbeat. My only regret is that they cant be my full-time regular vet.

The worst experience we have ever had at an emergency vet. We have been to both Hampden Family Pet Hospital and VRCC. We brought our young cat in for blood in urine and the steps were to be seen by the vet, a needle aspiration to get urine, xray, and then get meds. The whole ordeal took 3 hours, though they did not have lots of other patients there. We were one of three. The vet took our cat back and left her in the back where they will not let you watch the procedure. After 1 hour of waiting, I asked how much longer it would be. They had not even done the 5 min procedure. She was waiting back around all the other animals and sounds. This was unnecessary suffering and carelessness on the part of the vet staff and causes anxiety in the animal to make them less cooperative in a procedure. I finally asked for them to bring her back until they were actually ready for the procedure. Ultimately they did not get a good urine sample and had to send out urine, which means our diagnosis is still yet to be determined. Then they wanted to do an xray and that they said should take about 5 minutes, but took a half hour. When it was time for the vet, who was most apparently just out of school, to bring us medicine for her, she took 20 minutes to return. There were no other patients at that point! She forgot something and had to go back and get it. The vet was not terribly knowledgeable and seemed unsure of what she was saying. Then she said that they would email us the discharge instructions-very important as her diagnosis is up in the air still. This is our third attempt to get them to email us and we just called-the staff said there are no discharge instructions! We are calling 24 hours later! When my husband called, they did not even have our named spelled right and we have an incredibly common name! The staff was incompetent and that includes their "vet." There system was inefficient and the entire visit expensive since there was a huge lack of quality in the care. I am going to let my vet know not to recommend them anymore and let anyone know that this place is just a bad idea.

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE!! I had the worst service imaginable. My dog had a serious issue that required surgery. It took several days just to make progress on his diagnosis. I had to go into the clinic and call several times to get things progressing. I took him in on Saturday at 1:00pm. When they changed shifts/drs on Monday I was given another dr. This dr didnt do anything either...even though I had already given approval to continue with the diagnosing steps. The doctor scolded me for coming into the office upset.(Monday @ 3:30pm) Stating that they had other dogs with more pressing issues?! At this point my dog had already been there 2 days. It had not been determined that my dog needed surgery at the time I was speaking with her...because they did not complete the barium study or the ultrasound as they suggested to me. I approved all charges...but still nothing happened. My dog needed surgery - this was not determined until 3 days into his stay. I was referred to this center because they are a specialty center. IF you want to have things drag on and on...and your animal suffer then take your pet here. Updates were few and far between. I had to call for the majority of my updates. Dr. Stubbs completed the surgery on my dog for an obstruction. He was wonderful and did a fantastic job. The rest of the staff was very pleasant - it just did not seem that this was a WORLD CLASS FACILITY as they state on their website. Mary & Maria were fantastic. Dr. Trimble is the public relations director - he contacted me and proceeded to rip my head off. He later apologized for his actions siting that another customer had upset him. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! The staff was pleasant once they were assisting you. They seemed very attentive to the pets. The only person who was rude to me was Dr. Trimble. This visit caused me lots of heartache and pain. I would NEVER bring my pet here again. PLEASE find another facility.
