Terrible. Just plain awful. They dont care about you or the animals here really. All they care about is your money. I came in to adopt a cat for the first time, and the whole process made me never want to come back. All they had listed up front were adoption fees, and when I consulted one of the desk people about what I need to adopt an animal, all they told me was that there was a 50 dollar fee, pretty much the same thing they had posted up front. Yet when the time came for me to pay and take my cat home, they suddenly decided to tell me that I had to pay a fee for buying her a carrier(which I understand), and also another 20 dollar fee for buying a license to legally own a cat. I was a little irritated that what I thought was going to be a 50 dollar transaction ended up turning into an 80 dollar one, but I know how it is sometimes, things are the way they are. Things didnt work out with the cat that I took home, so I brought her back and they then told me that I had 60 days in which to come back and take home a different cat if I wanted. A couple of weeks pass by and I come back to get a different cat, and not once before I signed every single paper and waited almost 2 hours, did they tell me that I would have to pay another fee for another license, even though I had already paid for one the previous time. The lady was even pretty rude about the whole ordeal. If she had told me beforehand that I had to pay another fee, I wouldnt have been as angry, but no, she waited until the very last second possible to tell me that I had to pay another fee to take this cat home. What it boils down to is that all they really care about is the money they get. A lot of the people that are staffed there are rude and a little inconsiderate, unwilling to work with you, or even be the least bit sympathetic. I would highly recommend going somewhere else.

We had rescued an American Bulldog that was extensively abused by her previous owners. So much so that most other dogs she saw as prey. Unfortunately, one day, she attacked another dog (that dog is okay now, thankfully :)). We were told by animal control we either had to euthanize our dog, or surrender her. Neither option was ideal for us because we continue to love her very much. The easiest, and most humane thing was to surrender her to professionals. She isnt even two yet, so we desperately want her to have a long, happy life. We explained this numerous times to the young lady at the intake desk, but our tears were met with frustration from her. I get that job takes a certain amount of stoicism, but for crying outloud, have some compassion for people and the gravity of having to give away a member of your family. We got the same attitude from the young man that took our dog into the back. They acted like it was absurd that we cared because we were getting rid of the dog. The trainer I was in contact with over the phone to arrange the dropoff was better about the situation. The front of house people we dealt with, volunteer or not, need to learn appropriate interaction with people in these situations. Not everyone surrendering an animal is a horrible person and shouldnt be treated as such. It made the whole ordeal that much worse for my family.

They dont want their animals to find homes and would rather keep them at the shelter. We adopted from Denver Animal shelter. My boyfriend and I went to this shelter to adopt a dog. We looked online and fell in love with a Boxer Lab mix. He was a very timid boy and we agreed it would take a lot of love and work to get him properly socialized and that he was so lucky we loved him and wanted to take him home. We were approved for the adoption until they found out that at some point the dog might be at our second home in commerce city. Since commerce city and many Denver areas have bans on Pitbulls, we had SPECIFICALLY picked a dog that was NOT a pittbull. The shelter refused to adopt the dog to us based on the fact that it could possibly be considered a pittbull and MIGHT be taken from us. If they had done their research, they could have offered to have us pay for the DNA test that we could carry the results of with us to protect from the dog being taken, That is sufficient evidence per the Colorado pittbull statute. Instead this dog will most likely be put down due to his non social nature. They lost out on a wonderful home for a dog who needs special attention. I would not, despite their kind nature, ever adopt a pet from them based on the facts they discriminate against you without even knowing the laws and how they read.

The Longmont Humane Society just underwent a renovation last year and you wouldnt believe how nice this shelter is. The dogs are not kept in cages, but have small rooms with glass. Volunteers walk the dogs every day. Large gated outdoor play areas allow you to meet and observe a dog. Exceptionally clean. Takes a lot of dogs that are automatically put down by other societies which explains the abundance of pit bulls on their web site that have been there for a long time. Nicer than the Boulder Humane Society, and thats saying a lot. Ive dropped a dog off here that I found wondering around town. They have nice "drop off boxes" that are open 24 hours a day and are inside and heated. Good idea to save dogs that might just be abandoned in the woods (or worse) otherwise. Good training classes. Easily the best shelter Ive seen in the country-though Ive only seen about half a dozen. Heard horror stories about many shelters but this place definitely deserves the title "humane" in its title. This is the age of social responsibility. Many dogs are being dumped by their owners because of the economy. If you can adopt and love a dog, please open your heart up to one of the little guys at this wonderful shelter."

Im so disappointed with them. We adopted a sweet little girl from them about 2 months ago. It wasnt until the paperwork was completely done and we had declined the insurance that we were told she was pulled from Texas. Knowing that dogs from TX have a high chance of being HW positive I immediately asked if she was tested for heartworms and was told they do not do that testing. No one offered to test her for us. The next day we took her to our vet an found out she was HW+. We immediately started calling them with no response. We went back up there talk to someone and were told its like buying a used car. Or we could bring her back and get a new dog. No Way! We loved her. The kid we spoke to was suppose to see if he could retro the insurance for us. If someone had called us back when we started leaving messages we could have activated the insurance. We had 3 days to do this. The kid never got back to us. Finally today someone got back to us. We were told they will not help us, we declined the insurance and it is there policy to offer HW tests. When my husband told them we were not offered that she didnt believe him. We are now paying a $900 bill and they dont care. It is their fault. They dropped the ball.
