The best thing about this office is the optometrist. Dr. Holland was patient and understanding. She explained everything and was thorough. I was and still am satisfied with her service. The staff is disorganized and rude! I scheduled eye exams for all three people in my family. I called one week ahead to give my insurance information along with a phone number to verify coverage/benefits. Our appointments were on Saturday so I wanted to make sure there wouldnt be a problem. What happens on Saturday - well, we were NOT greeted as new patients, just please fill out these forms, and oh you havent met your deductible, whats going on with that? Is that their business? Ive never been asked that question especially not as a new patient. At checkout, prior to picking out frames, I was told that the amount was $195!!!!! My copay is $15 for adults and $ZERO for child. So, my total should have been $30 for the eye exams. I asked if she verified my insurance. She said yes, I havent met my deductible so that was the total, more insistent the two time she said it. While picking out frames, (this person was very friendly), I mentioned that our Davis Vision plan has an allowance for frames. Then I heard, oh, Davis Vision isnt down here for your insurance. We will have to update that. WHAT??!! I just had that discussion with the lady at the desk. She told me twice that I hadnt met my deductible. She didnt want to look anything up. Well, after the mention of Davis Vision, she starting looking up things on the computer, and said she couldnt find anything on me. She said she couldnt verify anything on Saturday. I couldnt see anything because my eyes were dilated. So, to sum this awful first time office visit, I paid the $195 with the understanding that I would be refunded once they verified everything. I was ok with that until I called on Monday. After three phones calls back and forth, later that afternoon I received a call stating they would refund the money by the end of the day. No apology for the inconvenience or any type of acknowledgement of overcharging me. Next day, I check my account and no credit. I called the office, and I was told they didnt issue the credit because I was going to buy glasses and they were going to wait to see how much that be. WHAT????!!!!! I went to the office and talk to the office manager. I politely asked the office manager to please consult me when making decisions with MY MONEY! I also discussed my other concerns. She apologized and told me that she will credit my account on the end of the day because it will mess things up if she does it right now. She also mentioned that its so hard to verify the Obamacare plans. That statement made my neck jerk. I ask..what was that? She said, yes, we have so much trouble with the Obamacare plans. I said well, I dont have a plan under Obamacare. I purchased it through BCBS. She said, well, its labeled as such, and I can show you. I researched this further. Apparently any plans after 1/1/2014 with BCBS that was approved by Obamacare will be labeled as such. If I can find this information out quickly, then why cant they. This office has proven that they dont want to go the extra mile and make a phone call to straighten things out. Oh by the way the glasses with my insurance coverage for all three of us was $636.80!!!!!!!! WHAT????!!!!! We decided to go to Vision Works. We walked in on a Saturday. They called Davis Vision to verify our insurance. I was actually shocked that they verified everything so quickly around 2:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. When I mentioned that the other provider wasnt able to verify on a Saturday, I was told that they didnt want to make a phone call. Wonderful customer service! We all got designer frames for $278 out the door! I wouldnt recommend this office unless you have confirmation that they have verified your correct insurance. So unprofessional especially when it concerns overcharging.

The doctor is wonderful, he always takes the time with each of us and extra time with the kids. Then comes back to the parents to explain in detail about the kids exams. We have been going here for about 8yrs and it is always the same level of care. What i dont understand is why his front desk staff is so very rude and acts as if they do not have time for you. example: I called on Wed to see if my glasses were ready after being seen the Saturday before and the lady says "hold on", i hold she comes back and says well we called you monday and tuesday to let you know they were ready. I said i received no such call can you read the number that was called.....it was correct and I said this happens everytime i come in, they say someone has been calling and they do not. She said "anyways, we are closed today so you will have to come tomorrow." just rude. Then the day of my appt i came in with a cup of coffee the front desk lady says we do not allow outside drinks, i take it out to the car and come back to find the lady next to me talking on the cell and eating a donut.....apparently that is allowed. Bottom line Dr. Hanna is an awesome patient doc and I will endure the rude front desk to have him care for my family!

My wife made an appointment about a week in advanced for this Saturday. The office called her yesterday to confirm the appointment, which my wife did. In the confirmation call my wife was asked if she knew the location, to which she replied "the one at NAS Jax, right?" To which the worker replied "Uh huh, yeah, bye" and hung up. So you can imagine how we felt after driving all the way across town, waiting for our 8:45 AM appointment, only to be told at 9:00 AM after waiting 30 minutes because like you should for appts we showed up 15 minutes early, when the jax office opened that not only was she not in their system, theres no doctor on site on Saturdays to see my wife for her appt. They called the other Southside location which is a few minutes from our house, and found out they had the appointment in the Southside offices system. We were asked if we still wanted to go to that office center today to make an appointment. To which we said no thank you. If you cannot even set up a simple eye exam appointment properly why should we trust that youd actually be able to perform an even more complicated task such as an actual eye exam?

Dr. Hanna is a great doctor. His staff, not so much. I relocated to a new city, and sent a signed request for my records. The request was faxed by my new doctors office. I set up an appointment with the new doctor for 2 weeks later. Imagine my anger/disappointment when i arrived for the appointment, and found that my records had never been sent. I called Dr. Hannas office and read them the riot act. Voila, my records arrived by fax in about 10 minutes. Overall, there is absolutely no excuse for the delay in forwarding the records, and I blame the apathy of the staff. Dr. Hanna...you need to spend some time training your staff in better response to your patients.
