My wife (who is not a native English speaker) and I went to planned parenthood for my wife to have a standard womens health exam (PAP, breast exam, etc...). She has some specific health concerns and were anxious to have a child as were both over 30. When I made the appointment I specifically said that my wife would require me to accompany her as an interpreter/translator because even though she speaks English, as anybody who speaks more than one language knows, its one thing to be able to have a conversation in a second language and its another to have a conversation about medicine/politics/religion. I was told over the phone that was fine (that I could accompany her). On the day of our appointment however I was told I could not be present during her consultation due to privacy laws. The result being that my wife had to struggle through a visit without understanding all the implications of what she was being told, without having a person with the ability to rephrase things in a way that she could understand and was made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome to try to ask questions. I wasnt present to witness this, but my wife tells me there were several misunderstandings that occurred and that, though the doctor and student intern were "nice, they displayed little to no sensitivity to her predicament and kept repeating phrases that she didnt know (contraceptives, PAP smear, STDs, mestruation, etc...). Then when the exam was over they didnt offer to answer of her any questions and simply left the room. My wife is nicer than I am, shes saying they were nice and its her fault for not studying the terminology, but Im livid about this. Planned Parenthood paints itself as being so concerned with the feelings of their patients but their inflexibility in this situation put my wife in an unenviable position where she was made to feel like a nuisance rather than a paying customer with health concerns. Cant complain with the cost ($118) or the long wait (even with an appointment), but the way they handled our situation is inexcusable.

Pill abortion-> You walk in and sign in (after making an appointment). They call you from behind the glass window. You go in to make payment. THen come back out. You go in for testing then come back out. You go in for counseling and come back out. You go in for ultrasound and come back out. Finally you go in take the pill then come back out. No one else is allowed to come in with you except for the counseling part. The only reason I am giving this place a 3 is because of the friendly and empathetic doctor. The outside looks upscale and fancy, but the inner workings, i.e. the logistics are horrible. I had to wait almost 2 hours for the follow up ultrasound- Does cleaning the ultrasound table take that long? The atmosphere is absolutely horrendous. People are all tense, with the occasional silence interrupted by hurried humor that is forced and fake smiles that are easy to distinguish. Why not have small private areas instead of this breeding ground of stress in the main waiting room (Mainly for the people getting an abortion). My recommendations- > Bring a book/phone/laptop and be ready to wait. > Bring food as you will get hungry. > There is one restroom so you are good there. > Bring headphones so you can listen to relaxing music in the background as they have one t.v. located at the most obscure angle that it could leave you with torticollis after staring at it for a while. Overall my experience with the clinic was sub par. The abortion process itself was alright (I threw up after the second pill but since it was buccal absorption it did not affect the process). I guess if I knew the waiting was going to be extremely long and the atmosphere was going to be tense in the "waiting room of awkwardness" then it would have been less of a let down. If I were to do it again I would try another clinic, but then again after going through an abortion(which I am glad I did) I will never do it again. Good luck to everyone, you can make it through, even if the clinic is not run efficiently .

Sad to have to leave a negative review for this place. Ive been going here since I moved to Tampa and never had a complaint until this past weekend. Apparently they are horrendously understaffed. I had an appointment for a consultation(which took 5 minutes). I waited over two hours. I politely asked how much longer it would be a couple of times and was told "ten minutes," which was simply not true. This is apart from the indifferent attitude of the receptionist. I have worked in a medical office and I absolutely understand that things happen that are out of the staffs control, but they didnt mention that they were running behind when they signed me in and gladly took my copayment. One hour into my wait, another young woman got up and said shed been waiting over two hours and was leaving... so it wasnt like one thing happened and they were running late, it had been happening all morning. My primary doctors office routinely runs up to an hour late and each time I walk in the receptionist kindly tells me and offers to reschedule if I need to get to work, which I truly appreciate a lot more than being greeted with a scowl and having to sit in a near empty waiting room for hours on a Saturday morning. There were 3-4 people in the waiting room at any given time, so it wasnt a particularly busy day. I can only imagine that they may be experiencing funding issues to only have one nurse and one doctor working, but as someone who has donated in the past I will absolutely not continue to do so when Planned Parenthoods presence in Tampa has so little respect for their patients. I will not go to this location again, and if you must go to Planned Parenthood due to financial reasons I would suggest researching other local clinics that work on a sliding scale. They absolutely cannot be as bad as this place.

I dont know why you people act SO surprised when you go into a doctors office and have to wait. Like its never happened before. I watched several people get loud and ignorant about the wait while I was there, like thats going to help them any, I feel embarrassed for them. I go already knowing and planning to spend 2-3 hours, and like that, I dont get angry or upset. And if you try talking to these people with a friendly attitude, you might just get a better response. I went to this place for the first time to get on BC, it was $50 for a consultation with the doctor. I waited 2 hours to go back and talk to a nurse about my options and then got sent out to wait for the doctor. I waited another hour for them to call me back to the window where they had a prescription ready for me. I NEVER actually saw a doctor. The staff was super nice to me, because I was nice to them, but it was disrespectful of the doctor to not even speak to me. This place definitely doesnt give a crap about the general well being of the women that come in, but hey, when you have no insurance and youre on a budget, what can you do?

Consistently the worst staff and service, truly the most unprofessional and lazy front reception service. For a 9:40 AM appointment I show up at 9:20 AM (since it always takes 2+ hours to even be seen) to be rudely told that they need to reschedule (with no consideration that it took me an hour drive there and making my own work schedule accommodate their schedule) BUT the lazy staff only responded in defense saying "We called you at 9AM this morning" and no, I personally showed them my phone record of their call at precisely 9:20AM (the same moment I walked in the door) No apologies just a sad excuse that they also "meant to call me yesterday". They are a joke, lazy, careless and RUDE with no consideration. I am not one to leave reviews, but it should be known. Oh, and they asked me when I wanted to reschedule: that will be never. I cant even trust your service at this point. Who knows if your Birth Control is nothing but a placebo! Victoria, 21 Tampa, Fl (and 1 star is being too nice)
