SAD TO SAY, THIS IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE if you care about your dog, and it’s a shame if you go to Dr. Brian Berger at Petwell because it’s convenient (he’s right next to Doguroo). I can’t tell you how much better my dog is since we left this vet. In just two weeks at another vet, my dog’s runny stool is under control, he’s stopped biting himself without the use of drugs and he’s mobile. AT FIRST DR. BERGER SEEMS FINE when all you need is an occasional shot. But I’ve gone to him for over two years now, and have spent thousands of dollars with him just in the past several months. HE SEEMS TO BE INEXPERIENCED and to have little understanding of dogs and people. He takes your dog behind closed doors to do anything, and once my dog screamed … I went into the room and they had him bound and pressured on the floor. My dog was terrified. No wonder I had to drag him into the vet every time we went. MY DOG SUFFERED FOR THREE MONTHS WITH HIM because this vet didn’t know that a medication he prescribed left the system after a day…and he was giving it to him every three days. As a result the symptoms of having to urinate frequently never went away until I changed vets and was alerted. That alone was several hundred dollars spent, for no relief. OVER PRICING: Brian Berger’s inexperience also shows in his pricing, among other areas. Or maybe he just likes to over-charge, I’m not sure. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, although another reviewer here indicated the same thing. BAD MOUTHING THE COMPETITION: When I told him there was a 24-hour emergency vet close by, The Ark, on 14th Street, he bad-mouthed them, and said the only place to go was the Cobb Emergency location, 30 minutes away. Where he used to work. Pretty petty. DAMAGE CONTROL ATTEMPT: When you’ve had enough and decide to leave, he will try to do damage control and give you a discount on your next service. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to treat people or animals in the first place, and thinks that an after-the-fact apology will work. It did for this other reviewer. I believe this vet is uneducated and lacks experience, so be careful. There are many other choices. My new vet treats me and my dog with respect and compassion, and gives intelligent explanations. And I am in the room with my dog and the vet at every appointment. What a concept. UNREACHABLE: After he doesn’t return your phone calls, you’ll be told the best way to reach him is email. Then after he doesn’t return your emails for three days, you have to call him again. Then he’ll send you an email. To top it off, when I finally changed vets and we requested my dog’s records, it took over a week for him to send them to the new vet. These are the facts. You decide.

Unfortunately, our experience as first time pet owners has been a rough experience due to some of the treatment we received at Petwell. Dr. Berger and his staff are very polite, the facilities are clean and modern, and they give every impression of being very caring individuals. However, our adopted pup came with a handful of unknown health issues that we attempted to get addressed straight away. Despite my many concerns from the outset, our first visit at Petwell left us assured that our dog needed nothing more than routine care. After being pet owners for four months, we have been to the office three times, had two tests, and two rounds of medication for: worms, an un-diagnosed limp, and a tick borne illness. While none of these are the fault of Petwell or the staff, we have been repeatedly charged for office visits and tests which I feel should have been addressed in fewer visits with less stress. Especially after explaining my concerns about the symptoms I encountered during our earliest visits. When I expressed these concerns to Dr. Berger, he said that he would send my dogs records to another vet when I found one that would "do it my way" and snidely thanked me for my input "first thing in the morning". If anything this conversation made me absolutely certain that Petwell is not the place for first-time or low-income pet owners with little knowledge of canine wellness.

To put it plain and simple, this place is a rip-off. They care more about lining their pockets than taking care of your dog and will scam you out of the clothes on your back if you go there. In all fairness, the service was alright (not great and at times lousy), but the price is ridiculous. I believe they have covered the web with fake reviews to lure people in, because there is no way people could be happy with a place who so blatantly rips off their customers. For my part, after a year of being ripped off left and right, Im moving on to find a vet who truly cares about my dog, not just how much money he can get out of me. Update: Obviously I was upset when I wrote my initial review; However, I am updating my review because Dr. Berger went more than out of his way to remedy the experience I had at his clinic. Hes changing policies at his clinic so costs are better understood and informed of before checking out. Now that things have been cleared up, I will resume going to PetWell for my Vet. needs, and I encourage others to do the same with this caveat: Its inevitable that not all will have perfect experiences, but if you have a problem, do inform Dr. Berger of it and he will fix it.

Like some people described we felt Dr. Berger is just trying to get money out of you. I went with a small Goldendoodle puppy because of runny stool and stomach worms.. We went in to learn about the test results and as smart as he is, he seemed to be super cold. My pup was trying to be nice with him so like most pups that are still being trained, he jumped on him and he just pushed my doggie off him in the meanest way.. I was shocked. PetWell, if customer satisfaction is important for you Id have a talk with him and check the prices compared to the industry. Ive dropped over $1,000 on vet bills to have my home vet (all the way in Spain) solve my dogs allergy problem through the phone- no need for expensive allergy and stool exams. He recommended me to change his dry food to the hypoallergenic from Royal Canin and its been the best Charlie has been since I picked him up at the shelter. Id suggest people staying away from Dr. Berger if they care about their money and fur friends health.

We love Dr. Berger! We recently got our first kitten, and because we live in Midtown, we wanted to go somewhere nearby. I researched vets and found that Dr. Berger came very highly recommended. We were not disappointed at all. Even though he treats a lot of dogs because he is attached to the Doguroo, he was very knowledgeable about cats, too. He spent a lot of time with us the first time we came in to talk about our cat, her health history, what she was eating, and our health plan going forward. We really appreciated the personalized attention, especially since this was our first kitten and we werent sure what types of vaccinations to get, etc. I didnt feel like he was trying to fleece us at all -- the prices were reasonable (all vets are a little pricey, but I think preventative medicine is completely worth it). The facilities are also gorgeous and very modern looking. I would highly recommend Dr. Berger to others.
