I had scheduled an appt. for my children with Dr. Tharp. Our initial exam, on August 3rd, 2015, Dr. Tharp was very kind and knowledgeable. All three of my children were seen. We got along so well that when I expressed interest in the eye x-rays, Dr. Tharp said that I could come into her office and she would teach me some things (like an intern position). While I wanted to, I said that I would not be able to since I am permanently disabled and I would hate to have her depend on me and I knew I wouldnt be able to fully commit. One of my children had been experiencing headaches for approx. two years and upon examination, Dr. Tharp stated that she could "see how tightly wound the blood vessels were behind the cornea" and that she did believe that they had "migraines with aura." She then suggested that I take them to a pediatric neurologist. I took my child to a pediatric neurologist office on August 10th, 2015. Due to a custody issue during the fall of 2015 based around the migraines and medication prescribed by the pediatric neurologist, I called Dr. Tharps office to ask for a consult letter from Dr. Tharp. During this conversation (which my mother also heard as I was driving and on speaker phone) Dr. Tharp stated she would have to "find my childs medical file and it would take her some time". My mother stated that it sounded like Dr. Tharp was "intimidated" due to her reaction. On November 23rd & 24th, I contacted her office again requesting a consult note. Jordan told me that she would pass the message along to Dr. Tharp and that it would cost me $.50/page for my childrens records. I gave Jordan my credit card info and told her to charge me for the records as I want the childrens records faxed to me that day. I also told Jordan to please call my home line before she faxed anything as I will need to switch the line over to receive faxes. She agreed and charged my bank account $6.00 for the records. During these two days I did talk with Dr. Tharp once. During our discussion she called me "a liar." She said that "she did not say my child had migraines with aura." She again suggested that I take my child to a pediatric neurologist. I told her that I had already on 8/10/2015. However, Dr. Tharp became so unfocused, she just continued to talk over me and call me names and say that she never said these things. Shocked, I called the following Saturday. When someone answered I asked if they were open. They said "yes" and I said "thank you." I then went to the office to get my childrens records that werent faxed. Upon arriving the office door was locked. Dr. Tharp then came out with one of my childrens medical records. I asked her to get the rest of the childrens medical records. She shut the door again, locked it, and went back to the desk in the front of the waiting room. I could not imagine why I was being treated like this. Looking through the paperwork I was handed there was also a letter suggesting that "my children and I find another optometry office." I have never been asked to leave a clinic and I wasnt even sure what I/we had done wrong. She then handed me the rest of my childrens records. I asked her to refund the charge for my childrens medical records. I crumpled up the letter and stuck them in the door handle that again had been locked by her. The $6.00 was refunded promptly. Dr. Tharp is well aware that complaints regarding her behavior were going to be filed by me. At the very same time, I know that another office involved in my childrens medical care was also being harassed by my ex. While they voiced their concerns they did not behave in such a poor attitude as Dr. Tharp did. Dr. Tharps records do state that my child has migraines and that they should see a pediatric neurologist. So why was I treated this way again? I would never refer anyone to this office. I will always tell people in the are to never take themselves/family to Dr. Tharps office based off of this one experience with her. She truly is a bad mark on the medical communities best efforts and practices!

Poor service. Dr. Tharp did not even intent to make eye contact with my children on their first patient visit. She spent less than 6 minutes with each child on a new visit encounter as if my kids eyes where not valuable to her. She was very rude, very cold and careless toward their health.Dont bother coming here.

Dr. Tharp is wonderful! I had such a great and thorough exam at Smiling Eyes Eyecare that I recommended the office to several family members and friends. Truly a wonderful experience.
