The doctors and veterinary tech staff are generally very helpful and friendly. Theyve always been able to get me in soon for appointments and answer all my questions patiently. However, at my last visit, I went for a checkup and my dogs yearly vaccinations. As expected, I paid for a stool sample and heart worm test. I was given the vial to collect my dogs stool sample and they told me to drop it off whenever I wanted. As it so often happens, life got in the way, and with finishing law school, it took me a little longer than anticipated to return the sample. When I came into the office to drop off the sample, I was treated very rudely and my sample was refused and thrown into the trash. I was told that since it had been more than 30 days since I paid for the sample to be tested, they would not take my sample nor would they refund me the money. Mind you, the test was well over $50 and I had already paid. I love my dog more than anything, but as a student, $50 is a lot of money for me. I explained that I was never informed that there was a time limit for dropping off the sample (or I would have most certainly returned within it) and asked to speak to a manager. I was told no one was there but I would be receiving a call the next week to see if there was anyway they could accept the sample. I never received a call back and havent heard from anyone since. I am incredibly disappointed with this service. It is unethical, and unlawful, to take money from a customer for a service and then refuse to render the service. At the very least, if the service is not rendered, the money should be returned in full. Both of these options were refused to me and I have been unable to reach anyone about the problem since. As much as I have always loved coming here, Im sad to say this may be the last time.

Not much of a fan of this place. I took my dog in a year back for Rabies shots updates. They told me it was $140 for a 3 year, which is fine. I told them just the rabies for now and I would look into all the other vaccinations. But mainly I went in there for the rabies vaccinations since I was told petsmart typically has vet days where they have vaccination packages that are super affordable. The doctor, who saw my dog when I first adopted him, saw him again. He was nice and very professional. They asked me if I ever got a stool sample, and I said no. They told me it would be $89 for the stool sample, and I told them we can do that next time and Im just here for the rabies shots. Then he looks at the chart and said okay, well do all the vaccines today. Well I understand my dogs well being, but I was a bit blind sided by that as I said only rabies for now. Whatever, my dog needed it, just get it done. All of a sudden they decide to take my dog out of the office and come back claiming they were able to find some feces for the stool test. Something I did not ask for. Then they tried to add a bunch of other med add ons. When I went to pay, wanting to pay $140, but expecting to pay more for the other vaccines, but did not anticipate the feces test. They took it without asking and I said no. I ended up having a bill for $389. I was told they would call me with the result of the feces/heartworm test and they never did. They just charged me without batting an eyelid. I had to budget out the rest of the month after that one. I wouldnt come here again. They get two stars because the vet and staff were nice... despite the sales tactics. They didnt even ask, they just did everything.

I am horrified with the experience my daughter had with her cat at this facility. I think Cook County should shut them down for unfair and unsafe practices. My daughters cat, an indoor domestic house-cat, never been outside or been around another animal was taken in for nail clipping and shots. The Vet Tech aggressively came toward the cat and put her hands on her without speaking, warning and was also not wearing any gloves. So, the cat being scared, nipped her. It was a provoked nip, NOT unprovoked. They said since she had not had her Rabies shot yet, she would have to be held in quarantine for 10 days. This cat is like a baby. Anyone in the right mind would know she was showing no signs of rabies and never around other animals. And the Vet Tech came aggressively towards her. All of that above shows she should not have been put in quarantine for a mistake the vet tech made by her behavior and not treating the animal correctly. This put undue stress upon the cat to be in total isolation for 10 days and my daughter who lives alone to be without her beloved pet worrying about her for 10 days. And also had the gall to charge her $240.00 for shot and nails! At least they could have not charged her. My daughter has many friends that live the area with pets, that previously go there, they were dismayed and horrified at this experience as well, and will not be returning and will be writing reviews on google, Yelp and contacting BBB for unfair cost and handling. I WILL BE CALLING AND DEMANDING FOR THE $240.00 TO BE CREDITED BACK TO HER CARD, THE NERVE OF THEM TO CHARGE HER AFTER ALL SHE HAS BEEN THRU! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS PLACE!

I completely adore Dr. David. He is skilled, kind, and an absolute joy to work with in the healthcare of your pets. The problem at this place unfortunately lie in the unprofessional, rude, sexist, and incompetent front desk personnel that is hired. Time after time, with three pets in Dr. Davids care, have these staffers made the visit a most frustrating experience. They serve man before women in line; they will not manage the most simple request on the telephone; they are slow; they get confused easily; and they have had no open ear for politely uttered suggestions. The worst of it is the retaliation a customer experiences when insisting on a request over the telephone ... Miracle oh miracle, NO ONE is available over the telephone after you are kept on hold! I wonder if VCA hires rejected customer Service reps from our infamous Peoples Gas company in Chicago? I sincerely suggest to invest in training or get skilled and professional staffers at your front desk...

I highly recommend Doctor Brumfield. We have two dogs and a cat, and not only has he been extremely thorough during each visit, he is extremely gentle and caring with the animals. His knowledge of pet health is exceptional. Dr. Brumfield is very reasonable when it comes to advice and is not pushy or negative in any way. He takes time to help you understand the health issues your pets are facing, what options you have, including realistic impacts if you choose differing options with treatment. Having worked with many vets in Chicago and other states, Dr. Brumfield is, by far, my favorite doctor - and my pets mental and physical health have improved significantly because of his direct impact.
