Bottom line: Very expensive, extremely long wait time, and they push you to get unnecessary exams (Initial invoice of $450 for dog with upset stomach). I booked the appointment with Dr. Pennington. Got to the hospital on time, and they told me to wait in the room where they diagnose the pet. However they had me wait for 50 MINUTES without letting me know anything, in an isolated room. My dog got so scared and stressed out hearing dogs screaming in nearby rooms. Nobody came in while I was waiting almost an hour to let me what was going on. The vet finally came in, she kept looking at her wristwatch and seemed like she was in a hurry. She examined my dog (just running basic stuffs), and told me the nurse will bring a sheet with tests and treatments with prices written on it. Then left. Didnt tell me what kind of treatments, if they were necessary or not. Just left. She seemed she didnt care about my dog, didnt even ask me if I have any questions at all, but rushed out of the room. I wanted to ask a few questions about some minor problems my dog has... Didnt even give me a moment to ask. Anyway, it all took 5 minutes. After another 10 minutes of wait, a nurse came in with an invoice. Ive told the vet that my dog just had an upset stomach due to eating some steak fats. However the vet recommended my dog needs 450 dollars worth of exams and treatments. Trying to sell me unnecessary blood tests, X-rays, pain medication, dog food, blah blah blah. I felt disgusted, I asked the nurse if it was all necessary, and she told me I can to choose whatever I want to. At this point, I dont understand why I was there. These people dont care about my dog. All they care about is the money. And what knowledge do I have, to decide which exams and treatments are essential to make my dogs upset stomach better? I just wanted to stop by for maybe a half an hour to give my dog a shot and some medication. The doctor finally came back in again and explained why I needed all of those. I told her I just want something for her upset stomach, not extra tests or some unnecessary prescription food. I ended up paying for 130 dollars, which is considerably expensive for the service I got. THE VISIT TOOK ME 2 HOURS. Not because it was such a long complicated procedure. Because they do not value customers time and money.

I take my dog to VCA and have been very pleased. We primarily see Dr. Logan, but we have also seen Dr. Pflum. I would highly recommend either one. My dog had to have a very minor surgery and there was a minor complication (an infection.) Dr. Logan kept him and made sure everything was fine. She didnt even charge me for the follow-up or the antibiotics--just the initial surgery. With this surgery and since, every time I have called with a concern or question she returns my calls promptly and is very reassuring and informative. My dog absolutely adores all the vet techs. They all clearly love animals and are all very friendly. My dog likes it there so much that I boarded him there when I had to be out of town. I was nervous, but whenever I called to check on him they would give me an update and assure me he was fine. When I came to pick him up, they said they had him out playing with them all day. He didnt seem sad or mopey at all and he was completely wiped out when he got home, so he mustve gotten his exercise! Every time we go there, he is SO excited! Ive never seen a dog so excited to go to the vet. The only negative thing I have had was that my dog was chipped and they did not send the paperwork in for over 3 months. Although I was a little irritated, I dont think anything bad wouldve happened even if hed been lost because the chip would lead back to VCA and theyd know to contact me. This also obviously doesnt affect their quality of care at all, so I dont think it even warrants one less star. Id highly recommend VCA.

We took our cat to VCA last month after a horrible experience with our previous vet. Our cat had been spayed by the previous vet, but was not given basic medications to help her heal. She had developed a fever, was hallucinating and in extreme pain. After getting emergency treatment from Purdue ER, my then vet would not honor the medications from Purdue and insisted on making an appointment when the next slot was available. Even though the office was open a few hours on Saturdays, they would still not see their regular patient on advice from Purdue on an emergency basis. When I explained my problem to VCA, they recognized the seriousness of my cats condition and examined her immediately and completed the follow up on my Purdue ER visit. The appropriate medications were given and I was given detailed education about my cats problem and things I could do at home to help her. My cat was her old self within 36 hours. Because of VCA, my cat survived the ordeal. All she needed was basic post-surgery medications and VCA came through, no red tape at all.

The care, patience, and attention my familys pet has received at the VCA has been remarkable. The vets and assistants have taken time to get to know our dog before the examination began. For example, our puppy is a bit nervous, so the staff sat with her on the floor, calmly approached her, and helped to make sure her visits are positive experiences. When I had dogs years earlier, other vets in other towns put my dogs on the counter, gave the shots, pulled at their ears and muzzles, and sent us on our way. As a result, my dogs were always terrified to go the vet, which was a huge inconvenience. That experience has not been the case with the VCA at all. In addition, we have seen no long waits in the waiting room, and no difficulty with setting appointments. Best of all, they are happy to share their expert opinions, and have answered a great many questions about vaccinations and other curiosities. Lastly, they are updating and improving their interior. Impressive place.

This place was awful. Take your pet to the Purdue Vet ER instead. I walked in, there were two ladies at the front desk and no one said anything. After standing there for ten minutes, apparently I was invisible, I said excuse me can I please get some help. The lady sniped at me saying she was checking out another customer. All I was looking for was to be acknowledged like a hello, or someone will be with you soon. Not dirty looks. I then asked if it was too late, for my pet to be looked over, she said of course and told me to go somewhere else. Then as I walked out the door she sniped again "Thank You". I was already pretty worried about my dog, and didnt need the attitude or what little else they had to offer. Plus when someone walks in to your establishment you shouldnt greet them with dirty looks and not even acknowledge that theyre standing there, probably with an emergency situation. This happened (7/19/16).

Very disappointed with Dr. Bartner. It was obvious she didnt care about the patient (the pet) who she kept calling a boy, even though she was wearing a pink collar, or the customer. She cares about the money, and wants to get you in and out as fast as possible. If you want a vet that cares, is well educated and doesnt fully rely on expensive exams to give her an idea of what is wrong, and one that takes their time to complete a check up/physical exam you are paying for (Taking temperature, checking eyes, ears, teeth (none of which was done at our visit) etc.) Go elsewhere, or go to VCA, and request one of the other vets. I will say the vet assistant was very nice, and my dog loved her! Unfortunately, the vet herself should take some tips!
