This is a relatively new hospital. Landscaping and construction is in progress. The rest of hospital is nice the staff on 2nd floor is courteous. However.... My mother who is 78 was brought in for severe Copd and lightheadedness and unsteady bp. She was in this hospital for 9 days. The docs came in randomly and she/we never knew her status--was she getting better or worse? I live out of state and would drive in so never knew when doc would arrive. She was told by nurse that she would be going home next day. I took off work. Drove into Indiana only to sit there all day waiting on doc to let us know if she was going home. Hours later I finally asked the nurse to call the doc as we were kinda in the dark. She called my moms doc. The on call doc for floor. came in to see my mom. My mom wanted me to ask questions- so I did. I asked was she getting better. Too which he tersely says, I just said she is ok. Me and mom never heard him say that. It appeared I irritated him to ask. I sat silent as to not upset my mother by pushing the issue. When on call doctor left out, my mom said I dont know any more than when I came in 9 days ago. My whole rant is to say about this hospital : its a new hospital still working out its policy/ procedural kinks. The nurses are great however the nurses and patients are clearly left in dark as far as the care, follow up and aftercare of each patient from the doctor. Knowone had an answer because from nurse to patient to family ---- we or you will wait for hours to get any communication or feedback of your family member from again the doctor. If you, like myself need clear communication that is consistent and you dont have to wait days to get feedback come here but you will wait and wait and your family member will constantly be in the dark... Dont come here. Lots of turnover with new docs and new nurses. Continuity of care may suffer I know bedside manor has. Communication is too slow and its hard to plan aftercare for your fan member. Nice hospital but too new and doctors bedside manner and attentive to care is too distant and cold... Dont come here

My 76 year old mother was admitted in April 2013. Three potentially dangerous mistakes occurred during her two day stay. First, after a change in shifts, the incoming nurse initiated the process for admitting a new patient. After my mother and sister explained to the nurse that my mother arrived the night before, the nurse was bothered and did not apologize for her mistake. On her second day, two nurses approached my mother informing her that they were taking her for her "procedure". They did not verify the patients name on her medical wrist band. Thank goodness my mother was alert enough and informed them that she was due for a colonoscopy - they wanted to prep her for an esophageal test procedure!!! Finally, blood pressure reading was attempted on the side of her previous mastectomy, causing excruciating pain to my mother. I contacted the Quality Manger whom returned my call three business days later. She assured me that she would get back to my mother by phone as well as to me. A month later.....we are still waiting. Its an attractive facility....its unfortunate their customer service and attentiveness are not. I will not return to this facility and would not recommend this so called hospital to anyone!

No doubt, I am alive because of Franciscan! Because the Franciscan staff is well-trained and focused on compassionate patient care, in every aspect of my treatment, the staff was able to avert a tragedy and literally saved my life. I am indebted to Dr. Ninos Oda, Brenda and Jamie and everyone on my case in orthopedic who just did not feel right about my hip surgery and referred me to Dr. Buccellato, Dr. Desai, and Linda Gato in pulmonology. From there, tests were run that revealed an advanced blood clot called a saddle. From Dr. Hutchinson in the Emergency Room, to those who conducted all the scans and tests, to Dr. OKeefe who professionally performed an EKOS procedure to bust the serious clot, to Dr. Infusino, Dr. Ossawe, Dr. Mbaoma, Dr. Jones and each doctor involved in my case, to Mary, Tim, Alyson, Rhea, Shawna, Danyella and each nurse in ICU who graciously and professionally cared for me, ( I am truly sorry if I did not get every name.) THANK YOU for being used of God to give me a few more years of life. I appreciate each of you and every other person that assisted in my care. I would rate my care at Franciscan Hospital in Munster, Indiana, as a resounding A++!

Horrible experience. No one knows what the other is doing. Drs are rude and nurses have no idea what the Drs are doing. There for 5 days. Never had bedding changed, iv had was swollen and pillow propping it had blood all over it. Taken off daily meds with no explination. When asked about this, no one could answer us. Drs came in when ever they felt like it, never giving any kind of answers to our questions. And when we got an answer it was very abrupt, almost like a how dare we ask a question. Call button was answered maybe in 20 minutes. When we asked to speak to a person in charge we were told they were not at that facility. After asking many times we finally got a phone number. My family member who was the patient did not want us to call. Other people are still waiting for return calls, so in the long run it is probably better we did not. I would never use this "hospital" under any circumstances. It does suprise me that there quality is so bad, other Fransciscan facilities are so much better.

I had a really good recovery at Franciscan healthcare Munster. I was well attended to during my recovery from surgery. All staff had worked together to make sure I recovered well. I was given help and advice with how to deal with such change to my body. One thing I really appreciated was seeing a few of my other doctors and the chaplain John. John prayed with me several times which helped ease my mind and fears before and after surgery. I had one small incident that was resolved as if it never happened, and for that I will definitely recommend this facility for medical needs. I had some really cool nurses who kept me smiling and in good spirits like Paula and Geber from 3s. Linda came around shortly after. I just was thankful to leave feeling like I will be ok, but I was in good hands and under great care. I think I may have given them a small scare, but they came rushing and helping which I feel is extraordinary.

I get a test done every two years. In January I had it done for the first time at Franciscan Munster. The problem I have is with the billing department, which apparently does not know what they are doing. I have medicare as primary, UHC as secondary. When I found out that neither insurance was going to pay, I called the billing department who admitted they billed the wrong insurance first but would rectify the situation. I talked to two different employees in billing yesterday, each told me a different story. The first one transferred me to a phone which kept ringing with no answer. The second told me it was Medicares fault, that I should call Medicare, which I later did. Medicare told me they never got a claim from Franciscan! No wonder the bill is not getting paid, the billing department doesnt know what theyre doing! I would save yourself a headache and go to any other hospital beside this one.
