I was in this hospital in July 2010 and I will never go back. I was sent there from an immediate care center for an ultrasound bc the doctor was concerned that I had an ectopic pregnancy. After being in excruciating pain all morning I was told to drink lots of fluid and show up for the test at 2:00, which I did right on time. Oh they made me wait 25 minutes for the test and by that time I was about ready to burst right there in the lobby bc of all the water I drank for the test. Then after they took me back the person doing the ultrasound preceded to talk about my pregnancy as if the baby was perfectly fine and all was well. From talking with my doctor the person doing the ultrasound behaved inappropriately and should have remained neutral during the test. That really upset me more bc at that point I was worried that something wasn’t right with the pregnancy and that lady really got my hopes up that I was pregnant and everything was fine. After the test I was told to wait in the lobby for the results, but after 40 minutes of no results my husband and I left bc my husband needed to get back to work and the people didn’t seem concerned or would tell me how long we needed to wait for the results. If my husband and I would have known how serious it was we would have never left the building. I think the biggest problem was that the person doing the ultrasound seems to think everything was fine and no one seemed in a hurry so we got the impression everything was fine. What scares me the most about this was it took them over 2 hours to read my results and get in touch with the immediate care doctor. When I spoke to the doctor from the immediate care center he seem to think that was unacceptable that they took that long to read the results. My gynecologist who called me after I got off the phone with the immediate care doctor told me to go immediately to the emergency area to get blood work at the St. Vincent Carmel hospital. Once she showed up I ended up having emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. I had to have a fallopian tube removed bc it ruptured. I should have never been allowed to leave the Riverview hospital and why they didn’t bother doing blood work I don’t know. All I know is this was my first experience going to the Riverview hospital and the last. I will never set foot in that hospital again. They put my life in danger (People die from having a ruptured ectopic pregnancy) and I would never trust them with my future babies.

Leave this network if you can. I have excellent (todays standard) medical insurance, but it isnt enough to cover the cost of services in this network. Riverview Health has a much higher than average cost than IU Health. I went to a local in-network doctor for whom is affiliated with Riverview Health, for a chest cold and the cost amounted to $1,600 out of pocket. The bills are still trickling in. This was for maybe an hour of actual work. Dont see anyone in this network unless you are on your deathbed. The billing department is the worst. I almost had to hire an attorney to make them recognize that I had insurance and to adjust the bill accordingly. I have been told by other family members who are not as fortunate as I am that setting up payment arrangements is a farce as they nonetheless send the bill to collections automatically unless full payment is made immediately. I typically do not write reviews on anyone unless it is for good work, but this is the exception. This is also not the first time I have been severely billed for minor medical treatment unduly. Not to mention, ever since I moved to this location, Ive heard nothing but negative reviews of this network. I turn the cheek often, ignore what may be aggressive negative people giving bad reviews, but enough is enough, this is my warning to the community, do your homework, find a different network within your insurance parameters, drive further if you have too; so that when you do receive medical services youll know that you are paying a more fair cost.

Riverview is not the place to go if you have a HSA plan. Their rates are MUCH higher than other hospital affiliations in the area. We tried a new primary care with Riverview when our physician from St. Vincent retired. I couldnt believe it when I received the statement for the visit. Weve had a HSA plan for 9 years. Never in that nine years have we paid more than $99 for a primary care visit, and that was for a high level visit or new patient visit. My statement for my new patient visit at Riverview was $201 total. I called the billing department to question this and they were like talking to a brick wall. They had no idea. Come to find out, they obviously dont receive the same insurance adjusted rates as the bigger hospitals in the area. I am so thankful I took it upon myself to find the specialist I was referred to rather than allow them to place me with someone in the Riverview network. I can only imagine how much I would owe them right now. To be honest, I wasnt at all impressed with my care at the physicians office, either. He promised he would get to the bottom of my problem, and then dropped me like a hot potato when he couldnt figure it out. Unfortunately, this is the story of healthcare these days, but there are things you can do to advocate for your own health. Start by not using Riverview Health.

This place is very close to my home so when someone has a bad emergency we have had to go there. I have tried many times about 10 over the years and have never received proper care. Everything from meningitis to broken bones they have messed them up. My son had a gushing nose bleed, several in a few days, the urgent care told us to go to the hospital and except to be admitted, instead they cauterized it and sent us home. The next day we found out he had brain swelling from meningitis. We always end up having to going somewhere else to fix things right. Also they are down right mean and aggressive, uncaring is an understatement. They only let you see a Dr. assistant not an actually a Dr. A few weeks ago I cut my finger almost off. I was profusely bleeding and was left throwing up and bleeding with my neighbor while they sat and talked in a glass room looking right at us. My elderly neighbor had looking for help and then they came in yelling at me. Im done. We will always drive to another hospital. They put the blood pressure cuff on the arm with the bleeding making everything worse.. geezz Im angry thinking about it. My poor elderly neighbor took me to be helpful and they constantly yelled at her and I. They couldnt stop the bleeding. We never did see any Dr. the entire time.
