We have gone to this Vet Hospital since moving to Boone in 1990, great service back then. Since new ownership, I am beyond angry. I have a 8 yr. old Border Collie who Ive trained as a certified therapy dog. He gets wormed and tick/flea control every month. Two years ago he tested positive for worms, so they blamed it on the wormer (which we have always bought from them at a premium price) so they changed the wormer when they figured out it wasnt working. Well, now my dog has Lyme Disease, obviously the tick/flea control was no better than the wormer. And to make it worse, they do not even test for Lyme Disease (he was just in last April, and goes to them 2x a year) as other vets Im finding out now, do. My boy cannot stand, is having muscle spasms. I took him to a vet in Ankeny and she is treating him, however this will end his career as a therapy dog. I cannot tell you what joy and love he has provided Hospice patients, the mentally ill, nursing homes and children over the years. These vets have ruined all of this for Fox and the people who loved him. My advice to you is find another vet. I would also like to add that when we asked why they didnt provide an annual lyme disease test, the vet said because people in Boone would not pay for it....really??? Shouldnt we have been the ones deciding that? And we have since found that all other reputable vets in Des Moines and Ames routinely test for it. Today 2 weeks after writing the above, my dog can no longer stand, we have treated him with doxy, prednisone, etc. and nothing is working. Had he been diagnosed early enough, he could have been saved. In effect their negligence has killed my dog. 8/29/2017....Update, we had to have our boy euthanized on Saturday, he had stopped eating and could barely hold himself up. The saddest part was he was fully alert, so it broke our heart to do it. We took him to Creature Comfort in Ankeny as they had been the primary care taker for him thoughout this 5 week ordeal. We personally feel that his anemia, enlarged spleen and spleen cancer was caused by the undiagnosed Lyme disease. We believe he probably had his first symptoms (lameness, soreness getting up, lethargy) about 3 years ago, because they just "assumed" it was this or that and did not actually test him, he has been getting sicker and sicker slowly over the years without us knowing it. I have cried until there are no tears left. I gave his last almost full bag to the Humane Society today (and I must also say their front desk staff are a nasty lot too). My advice is to take your animals to another vet. We are going to use Creature Comfort, who actually have a huge poster encouraging people to have their dogs Lyme Disease tested.

We have taken our dogs there for years and thought we were valued customers until today. What a disappointment! I called and asked for an appointment but was told that they didnt offer any afternoon appointments, only walk-ins. So my husband took the afternoon off to take one of our dogs into the vet to get her shots. He waited for over an hour and was finally going to be next when another customer walked in and stated that she had a 2oclock appointment. My husband was puzzled because we were told no afternoon appointments. Of course, she gets called back with her pet within 5 minutes and my husband got bumped after sitting patiently in the waiting room for over an hour. This is extremely POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff, basically, by there actions of giving a SELECT CUSTOMER special treatment told my husband and everyone in the waiting room that their time wasnt as valuable as the SPECIAL CUSTOMERS time. My husband ran out of time to wait, after being bumped, and had to leave without our dog getting her vaccines. I will be changing vets immediately. I cant give my business to a place that will give special treatment to a few select people while not caring that they were just very unfair to all of the customers who were there first. So everyone out there who wants to stay with the vet, when you call to make an appointment, demand an afternoon appointment when they tell you its only walk-ins. Theyre lying to you. They do give appointments to their preferred customers who apparently dont have to wait in the waiting room with the rest of the peons. Also, and probably even more disturbing, is that while he was there, he heard the front desk staff bad mouthing a customer. Very unprofessional behavior.

All staff and veterinarians are wonderful here at Boone Veterinary Hospital. They genuinely care about your pets and spend time explaining everything you need to know. In the past few years we have had to put 3 animals down, recently in March was my grandmas cat, my grandma was in a nursing home, then diagnosed with cancer, her cat was old ans struggling from her not being at home, we all made the decision to have Heidi put down, it was so hard on us because my grandma just loved and adored that cat, and we came to the realization that not only was this the end of life for Heidi, but for grandma as well. Dr. Stephanie was amazing, she was so kind and caring, she made this hard breaking time a little bit better for us, thank you Stephanie, we also love Sara and TJ and Kim. Grandma passed away about two weeks later and we buried Heidis remains with her, as her wishes.

Great, affordable vet care. Ive taken all my pets to this vet clinic and have always had a good experience. The vets & staff are all very patient, answer any and all questions you have and take the time to make sure youre comfortable with everything being done. My dog had very advanced cancer and they helped me find affordable pain meds & cancer meds that would help make him comfortable until his final days. They were caring & kind and help us all through a difficult time. When I got my first ever cat. The vet & staff took the extra time to answer all my beginner cat questions from what type of food is best, to how often to trim nails. Excellent care & would highly recommend. Ill also note they recently changed from "walk-in" style to "appointment" style. Since then Ive never had to wait more then 10-15 minutes to get into my appointment. Much appreciated :)

Boone Veterinary Hospital is a true caring facility. My animals get friendly and professional attention. The vets really care about them and do everything possible to help them. Drs McClure, Henry, and Albrecht are compassionate veterinarians who understand animals and the attachment we owners develop with our animals. One of my animals has allergies and the Saturday morning hours give me the chance to take her in personally when she has hot spots. I trust the Boone Veterinary Hospital with my animals lives with no hesitation.Thank you to the Doctors for their excellent service.

Im from Ames. I drive to Boone even in an emergency. I have for many years since it was previously owned. I love the people there and the way they care for you and your pet, because they know the animal is a family member. Several times theyve taken the wait and see approach instead of rushing in with meds and procedures, giving the animal the chance to get through the problem. Saves you expenses and they were right to wait. The animals did get better. I recommend this facility to save money and for the health of the pet. They care
