We are new to the area and were attracted to the care center for all of the services they provide. We used them for boarding our 2 dogs when we went away for the weekend. Everything seemed to go fine. Our one dog has pretty severe seizures so having him at a vets office was a comfort. The next visit we had one dog in surgery to remove a couple large lumps and our seizure boy was kenneled for a day to let our girl recover. They filled one of the 2 seizure meds in the clinic and i gave them the instructions on how much meds and when he gets them. the next day I called back to ask if he could stay one more night as our girl was still in quite a bit of pain and our guy is very rowdy when he plays with her (we were worried about getting her stiches torn out by him when playing). They were very wiling to keep in another night. While on the phone i reminded them that they may need to pull a few more pills off the shelf to get him through the next 24 hours. They stated that would be no problem. Now, our guy has almost died twice because he gets seizure clusters and he has been hospitalized twice - once for a month to get them under control (our old vet kept him as a "charity" case meaning he did it for free to try and save him). I went to pick our boy up after work and was charged for 3 days, when he was there for 2 and i had already paid for one! They did fix that after the fact. However, when i asked for his meds back the lady went to the back and didnt come back for like 10min. When she did come back she informed me that they hadnt given him any of his meds since the day he was dropped off (two days ago). Our guy has gone into clusters before when his meds were late by a few hours. so of course I was scared and pissed! how could they NOT give prescribed medicine (that they prescribed him) for 2 whole days! thats 8 missed doses of seizure meds!!!! I dont know if he had any seizures while there but when he did come home his eyes are very swollen (common occurrence for him after seizures), and still are the next day. He could barely keep one eye open because it was so swollen he was extremely tired and has been a little "distant" from us. I cant tell you how upset we are from the lack of attention they have given to our guy. I dont know that we will go back - however our girl has a surgery follow up she needs so we may go back for that. but going forward I just dont know

I took my Holland Lop rabbit here to be spayed. I was very impressed with the facility, staff and Dr. Kathy who performed the spay. Very nice and caring people who know a lot about rabbits. I was super nervous to have my rabbit spayed in fear of something going wrong since it is a pretty major surgery for a small animal. However, once I met with the nurse and vet I knew my bunny was in great hands. Dr. Kathy is very experienced in doing rabbit spays. They explained the procedure in detail when I arrived and afterwards talked to me about how to care for my rabbit post op and answer any questions/concerns I had. Dr. Kathy sent me home with a bag full of great general rabbit health info, pain and GI motility meds, detailed sheet on how to care for my rabbit post op, and some Critical Care food mix to feed my bunny in a syringe in case she wouldn’t eat on her own. They also provided a 24 hour emergency number I called the vet office about 2 times once I got my rabbit home and each time they were super friendly, understanding of my concerns/questions and provided great advice. My rabbit was back to her normal self within 5-7 days. They performed laser surgery here and I think this really helped speed along her recovery. Another perk of the laser surgery is the use of stitches which dissolve and my rabbit didn’t mess with her incision. She is now 2 weeks post op and her little scar is healing great; it is now a very faint pink. I would definitely recommend Animal Family Vet Care Center and Dr. Kathy to anyone who has a rabbit!!

I would not recommend this place at all. Not that they are rude, the staff is very friendly. I have been there 2 times and each time I have been there it seems as though they use scare tactics to get you to either spend more money or leave feeling like the worst pet owner ever to live. We found a stray cat outside our home and we took him there just to make sure he was alright until we found him a good home and they overwhelmed me with all the things that "could be" wrong with him and how each one was fatal and I had to have all of the tests they recommended done or else he would die. Are you kidding me!? They wanted us to spend over $600 on a stray cat. The best part was when we refused to spend that much the vet exited the room and then came back and pitched us a lower price and said they could have the lab tests done in another state! How convenient. If that was always an option then why wasnt offered before. It was like buying a used car!! The vets are also not very open to alternative medicine. I wanted to not just rely on prescription medications to treat my cat. I also wanted to try supplementation. When I told the vet he looked right at me and said if used alternative medicine I would be sentencing my cat to death! The nerve. Instead of being flexible and trying to find common ground where we would both be happy he became offended and defensive. I will never go back to this vet.

I can not think of a more kind person that I know than Kim. She is wonderful! Today was the day to bring our dog in for her grooming. My husband was a bit early for the opening of the office but Kim saw him and came and got our dog from him. Having tried everything from brushing my dogs teeth to grooming her myself, I can tell you that I respect and appreciate what Kim does so much! Today was not a day my dog decided she wanted to be groomed. Instead of putting my dog through a stressful and difficult situation she recognized today was not a good day and immediately called me with what was happening. I so appreciated her knowledge and compassion for what was best for my dog. I will gladly bring my elderly dog back on a day that she is better able to handle the grooming. We have been going to Animal Family Veterinary Care for many years and would never ever go anywhere else. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart that they always put my dog first and everything else second. They have always treated any pet I have brought in with only kindness, compassion and professionalism.

We found Animal Family Veterinary Center about six years ago when my family relocated to the Quad Cities. We had a 11 year old dog, Bob, who had some health and aging issues and for whom we wanted some special care, which we found at AFVC with their caring staff. When Bob was 14, due to some serious illness, he had to be kept over the weekend so he could receive IV fluids. Dr. Kathy and Dr. Rob both checked in at night and on Sunday (not a day of business) to make sure Bob was stable. When the time came to let Bob go, Dr. Rob met us very late one night and was so compassionate not only to Bob but to us as we made that decision, and even followed up with us days later. We adopted another puppy, Biscuit, about two years ago, and it was a no-brainer for us to take her to AFVC to have Dr. Rob and the rest of the staff provide her with compassionate care. We have been and remain devoted clients, as we are well aware of just how devoted AFVC has been to us and to the health and wellbeing of our beloved family pets. Angela Elliott & Dick Vallandingham
