Trying to make a long story short, I had an abscessed tooth last weekend and had to find a dentist that took emergency appts so I found WFD. The swelling and infection started early Friday evening and by Saturday my face was swollen and I was in a tremendous amount of pain. When I arrived at WFD for my appt. the staff at the front desk were friendly and very accommodating as they could see that i was in pain and had a lot of swelling so they took me back pretty quickly, not too long after I had arrived. Once I was back in the dentist chair my experience went from great to horrible. The Dental Asst. whos name is Tami told me they would need to get some x-rays of my teeth, etc. to see what the issue was. She then left to get me some antibiotics and then she told me that the doctor would be in soon to speak w/ me after I had my x-rays done. At this point, the pain was so bad, I started crying because it was pretty unbearable. I hate crying in public, but I just couldnt help it due to me situation. The Dental Asst., to my surprise, showed no concern or empathy towards me, even though she saw that I was upset. Not one time did she ask me if I was okay or did she say to me I am sorry you feel so bad or asked if I needed anything. She had a stern look on her face the whole time I was in her care and was never very friendly or even seemed like she cared that I was in so much pain. When I spoke with Dr. Pierson he was very nice and professional and personable, but I only spoke to him briefly. Once I was done and ready to pay for my services, I will say the gal that helped me at the front desk was very nice and empathetic towards my situation as she could see that I was upset and she said that she hoped I got to feeling better soon and she was sorry that I felt so bad. Unfortunately, I didnt get her name, but I wish I had. She showed me more concern and empathy in the 2 or 3 minutes that I interacted with her than the dental asst. did in the 30-45 min. that I was in her care. The gal that was so kind to me had really dark hair and she had it up in a bun and I believe she had on glasses. Its just very sad to me that one person could ruin what could have otherwise, been a great experience for me. The lack of empathy the Dental Asst. had overshadowed any kindness I was shown, unfortunately, because I find it so hard to understand how a person that is in the Dental Asst field could be so callous and uncaring. If that is the kind of person you are, you should not be doing that job. Needless to say, I will not be returning for my follow-up appt. regarding my abscessed tooth that I had to go the hospital to have drained per Dr. Piersons instructions, before they could even do any work on me. I will be finding another dentist to return to where hopefully, I will be shown a little more kindness from their dental assistants. I guess the fact that I work in the Customer Service field, when I see this type of behavior from someone, its very hard for me not to say anything because if you strive to be a good company that takes care of your customers, then in my opinion, you would want to know if any of your customers were made to feel like they didnt receive good service or made to feel like they didnt matter by one of your employees.

Wichita Family Dental was awesome this morning! When I told them what was going on, they said to come on in... even though I had never been there before! I worried that they wouldnt take our insurance but after about half an hour we found out that they do take it. I was then told how much the co-pay would be. UGH. Not bad for two teeth but still more than I could afford today. So they set me up with an auto pay plan that helped out tremendously! Then, they started numbing me. I was numbed in several places first, but then when she came back to check and found that I could still feel stuff, she numbed me even more.... then the doctor came in to check and he asked if I could feel certain things. I told him I could but that it wasnt hurting... just could feel pressure. He said that was okay and numbed me even more. I told him about having TMJ and having issues with keeping my mouth open for long periods of time. Ive been turned away by every dentist Ive seen here in Wichita. He smiled and shook his head saying that they had everything under control. He gave me a bite block to use during the procedure and it made all the difference! (Bite blocks are rubber blocks used to basically prop the mouth open. Most dentists here refuse to use it because it gives them less space to work in a mouth. My mouth is already small but with TMJ I sometimes cant open very wide.). He prescribed me an antibiotic and a pain med. He was so quick in the extraction that he was done before I realized hed gotten the first one. To wrap it all up, as I was leaving, the receptionist handed me two homemade muffins. She said "One for you, and one for your husband since hes been so patient with us today." OMG! All that and homemade baked goods? *LOL* And lets not even mention the fact that they were open on a Saturday! I told Jay that were moving his dental procedures here too. Im not often happy with anything medical-related. But this time... yup! I definitely suggest them for anyone needing dental work done!

READ THIS REVIEW. I went to WFD in 2015 and am regretting every second. I am now missing a tooth other dentists believe they could have saved. I also paid astronomical prices to have them introduce "throw-away society" in the form of unecessary caps, into my mouth. I also made an even bigger mistake of telling my fiance its not a bad place to go for prompt treatment. Wow was I wrong. 1. The no quote policy is archaric, and no more than a con to try to get you as close to the chair as possible before telling you a price, exemplified by the way the office staff readily expected my fiance to just have the work done after infurating her. 2. Teeth do not change to the degree you would need additional Xrays in a span of two days. Why would you further radiate my fiance then? Who by the way is a radiologic technologist, and for work shes in surgery fluoro cases for hours.(In which live radiation is constantly blasted and absorbed by the body) 3. Office staff is awful. Dustin did all but tell us he would like to cancel our appointment. If a client never mentions reschduling or canceling an appointment you should not bring it up repeatedly. Along with that I am perfectly capable of using the phrase - "I would like to cancel my appointment." (It feels like Dustin was unaware of this last fact.) Before you go to this office, or go back. Imagine this place without all their giftbags, extra fancy(unecessary outside of specialty applications) equipment and nice East side facility. Think of the people and their skills. Before deciding if this is somewhere you would like to go. Dont end up here because of their bravado.
