Recently had a very dissatisfactory experience with the Behavioral Health Unit of Lakeview Hospital. It began on the night my mom was admitted with an extremely rude charge nurse berating me for escorting my mom to the unit from the ER. I had been instructed by ER nurse to do so. Then when I told her my mom was a very brittle diabetic, she was extremely condescending as though I didnt know what that meant though Id dealt with it for years. From there things did not improve. I was told from the beginning that were all part of the team, and Id be given plenty of notice before Mom was released to find suitable residence. Well,my "teammates" did not keep me informed at all. As a matter of fact, the first contact I had with Moms social worker was on her last day there, when he called to tell me to come get her - no advance notice at all. I then found out well, her insurance wouldnt pay for her to stay any longer. They had basically "housed" her as long as they could. I could never really find out what they were doing with her. She was discharged with no shoes on even though she had shoes there. No wheelchair exit, just hanging on to my brother and brother-in-law. She had repeatedly complained of backaches while there, but it was always blown off. We ended up the very next day after discharge at an Urgent Care where THEY did x rays and found she was extemely constipated, something maybe the hospital could have found out and treated. She was sent home with someone elses clothes. This place is a joke. Im only giving it one star because if you give it none, you are not able to post. So I called the patient advocacy center on Thursday, March 16 in the afternoon and left a message for them to call me and that Id like to come see them. Well, its now Sunday, March19 , and Ive had NO response. So, its now been THREE weeks since I met with so-called "patient advocate" sitting in a very public hallway, I guess, so I couldnt get too crazy with them. Ive had NO response regarding my concerns. I was told Id hear within one week. Mom went into this behavioral unit walking, is now in a wheelchair. Weve been to Urgent Care, to ER, to primary care doc, to spine specialist, to primary care doc again, and for MRI. She has a compression fracture which she got in this unit. DO NOT bring your demented parents to this place!

I would give this facility zero stars if I could. I went in to the ER in excruciating back pain at 2:00pm. If youve ever had sciatica, you know what Im talking about. I sat in a cramped, uncomfortable chair for THREE HOURS before being seen by anyone. I dont know how they calculate "waiting times," but what you see on their website is a joke (3 minutes, 5 minutes, etc.). I think that refers to how long it takes them to get your info so they can bill you. It was not particularly busy, two or three patients in the waiting room at a time. No one came to check on me, and I couldnt move. At least they could have put me in a bed where I could find a comfortable position! Finally, they take X-rays and put me on a bed (a little better) and the Dr. comes to see me at 6:00 pm. FOUR HOURS. Gives me a pain shot and some muscle relaxants (apparently all I needed). Then the real pain comes when I get a $2000 bill for this fiasco. The $1200 ER bill I understand--they have to be ready for anything from crushed skulls to strokes to heart attacks. But the best part was the $800 bill for five minutes of the doctors time. And, get this, the ER doctors there DONT TAKE MOST INSURANCE!!!. If they did, I would have ended up paying $145. Still high, but not outrageous. Lakeview accepts most insurance, but the ER doctors dont. So...Im supposed to shop around for doctors (Im sure you have no choice but to be seen by whomever is on call). The ER is dingy, uncomfortable, and you could easily die in the waiting room without anyone noticing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I had preterm labor issues and was on hospital bedrest to stop labor. I spent sometime in labor and delivery. Some nurses were awesome but alot of inconsistencies in proper bedside mannar and communication. I delivered there my doctor popped my water and sent me in labor. I waited almost an hour in labor in the ER. My doctor missed delivery and an inexperienced OB came in her place. My baby suffered severe bruising due to being 9lbs and stuck in birth canal. His shoulders were stuck. We could have lost him. His bruising led to extreme jaundice and bloodshot eyes. Lakeview literally kicked my husband and I out. Made us leave out newborn. Thank God for North Oaks. My baby had to be admitted again thanks to his tough delivery. But he rooms with me with the lights on. They accommodate parents of sick babys unlike Lakeview. The Lakeview postpartum nurses were rude and wouldnt even bring me more pads because I shouldnt need anymore. My baby was 9lbs really!!!! I will never go back to that hospital. Oh and the floors are sticky and nasty. The housekeeping just "spot cleans" I was told. Not sterile hospital.

I went in for a procedure and 9 hours later my husband didnt know what happened to me, staff was rude to him, he stood patiently waiting for a staff member to finish typing, she looked up and shouted someone is standing here, and neither did I. Got 4 different stories about what happened. After getting to my room, my husband had to pull doctor out of elevator to get him to tell us what happened, he was leaving for the night without coming to my room. They watch you by camera, hardly no human interaction, had to beg for wash cloth to wash my face, bedding never changed for the 3 days I was there. When discharged all paperwork given was for a stroke, was there for a ablation procedure, so I thought. Asked if I could get info about what my diagnosis was and the nurse told me that was private medical information and was handed more stroke information. Nurse pushed the elevator button and walked away, no wheel chair or escort given. It was like we were in the twilight zone! Still not sure what happened to me. Horrible experience!!!!Still struggling with this nightmare!!

I took my 3 month in because she had a fever and wouldnt stop crying. I asked them to check her ears because she had just finished antibiotics for an ear infection and figured that the antibiotics hadnt worked to clear it up. The doc checked her ears and said both were clear. He said she probably had colic and proceeded to give her an enema!!!! (She had a fever and had never had colic before, and that was his solution?) Needless to say I didnt trust his diagnosis so I took her to her regular pediatrician the next morning. DOUBLE EAR INFECTION. How did the ER doc mistake a double ear infection for colic? So I called the hospital Liason to tell her how incompetent her ER doctor was and I received a letter stating that he was not held accountable because the discharge instructions stated to follow up with a regular doctor. All of that and they still billed me $250 for the ER visit. I told them that I did not intend to sue for malpractice but they needed to drop the charge. They refused! I will never bring any family member there again.
