Today, receiving medical care can be a perfunctory experience. The idea of the doctor with the warm bedside manner has pretty much gone by the wayside when it comes to humans. In and out in 5 – 10 minutes seems to be the norm. That is why taking my cats to South Arundel Veterinary Hospital (SAVH) in Edgewater, MD has been such a terrific experience these past 30 years. If you don’t yet have a vet or are looking to change, you can’t do better than SAVH. For almost 15 years I have had as my cats’ doctor a wonderful man who was honored as the 2010 recipient of the Maryland Veterinary Association’s The Good Doctor award (he more than qualifies for that award every year but, alas, he can’t win it repeatedly). But “good doctor” doesn’t due him justice. Dr. Zaun Kligge is a great doctor! When was the last time your doctor called to check on how you were doing? When did you really feel you were an integral part of the medical team and not just an inanimate object in the examining room? When did you get the impression the doctor thought you were intelligent and deserving of a careful explanation of diagnoses, recommended treatment and likely outcomes? When did you believe the doctor was concerned with you alone, even though you knew there were other patients waiting and other matters on his mind? With Dr. Kligge my answer would be always. My cats and I have always received white glove treatment at SAVH and from this marvelous doctor and very caring technical staff (and the friendliest greeting and help from all the administrative personnel, too). If you value your pets and want the best for them, I recommend you check out South Arundel Veterinary Hospital. I say without any reservation that it’s a place that offers comfort for your pets and provides you with assurance that they are getting the best treatment possible. Despite getting his baths (yes, he does), Oskar would agree!!!

I cannot even begin to address the amount of issues this vet is responsible for while my cat has been sick. During my first visit I sat in the waiting room for hours when they said that they might be able to fit me in kept changing the time on me and then eventually told me that his issues werent something they considered to be an emergency so they wouldnt see me until later that evening and then I had to leave and come back. That would be an easy thing to let go if that were the only problem. It turns out his issues WERE quite serious. Now, every time we go into the vets office theres some issue with ordering, or with filling a prescription. Weve now had to wait twice, when we were already called and told the prescription was ready for our cat, and had to wait 20 minutes because it actually wasnt ready. Then they told us they were ordering special food for our cat so that he could get better. They never ordered it. We went back a week later and then they said that they would order it again and then I ordered it online just to be safe and because 1 case only covers 12 days with 2 cats. This time we have not received the online order AND we havent got the order from the vet either. They cancelled it KNOWING THAT I DID NOT CALL TO CANCEL!!!! Its now been several weeks after the first visit and we still have not been able to get a resolution on any of these issues. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!! WE HAVE A SICK PET AND YOUR LACK OF CARE, FOLLOW THROUGH, AND RASH DECISION MAKING IS NOT HELPING!!! --------------------- To add to this, I just received a phone call from the manager (who needs to be replaced immediately btw) and I had to describe IN RIDICULOUS DETAIL why I needed her to order the ONE CASE of food that THEY SHOULD HAVE ORDERED LAST MONTH! No apology for her constant misteps, no nothing. I should not have to beg to order food for my pet that YOU SHOULD HAVE ORDERED THE FIRST TIME!

I have a love/hate relationship with this office. Recently, this past summer my dog had an injury and was treated by one of the doctors here. I wont go into the details, but we ended up being referred somewhere else. We appreciated all of the compassion and work our vet did for us (including coming in when the office was closed on the weekend), and the front desk and assisting staff is AMAZING. My major gripe is with the office manager. I work in the medical field so I know how a great office manager treats their patients. This one is just flat out AWFUL. When I came to him and discussed the issues we were having with our dogs treatment (we had just given them $2000 and then were being referred somewhere else because they werent able to complete his treatment) he actually said to me, "I dont know what you expect me to do." Seriously?!?! Then told me that, "these things happen sometimes and Im about to go on vacation so we can talk about this later." SO unprofessional. He showed zero compassion for our situation and actually made me feel like I was a burden to him. If I could rate the vets alone they would get 5 stars. Dr. Bailey and Dr. Myers are wonderful doctors, but their manager actually keeps me from referring anyone to them.

I have been coming here for around 15 years with my pets, and I attribute much of the reason for their longevity and great quality of life to the veterinarians and staff at South Arundel Veterinary Hospital. They take the time to get to know each of their patients and their owners and are always willing to listen and respond to questions and concerns. I have found them to be very responsive when my pets have had special needs, and they consistently gone above and beyond to provide personalized care. I cant say enough good things about them!

Theres always one bad experience. Mine..they left me waiting in the room for 40 mins. Seen my dog for 10 mins of that time. Miss diagnosed his problem. Put him on experimental drugs and he almost died from it..heart rate increased dramatically. Liver swelled. And vomited everywhere..all over a simple ear infection. Then gave me a 400 $ bill. For just taking his pressure and temp...never again..if you want a good vet.. try muddy creek . They are the best and saved my dogs life

Ive just started taking my guinea pigs to Dr. Ware and really appreciate her knowledge and bedside manner. Our senior guinea pig responded really well to laser therapy treatments, and Dr. Ware helped her in her final days. Dr. Ware has also taken good care of our other guinea pigs eye issues.

Terrible doctors. Gave my dog ear medicine that made her deaf. Did not mention the possible side effects. NEVER going here again. Just there to take your money.
